Help me pick the better boots

Pls help me make a choice of no consequence just for fun.

Hobbs Farrah black boots

or

Whistles Piper black boots?

I like both. My instinct is that the Whistles ones have a bit more chunkiness and now fashion cred, but the Hobbs ones might have more longevity precisely because they are a bit less overtly of the moment.

Hit me.

Hobbs

WrinklesShminkles · 15/11/2024 14:31

Whistles - I don't like the square toe on the Hobbs pair.

DreadPirateRobots · 15/11/2024 14:33

It's a shame you can't do polls on S&B threads. (You can't, right?)

I prefer the Whistles. The Hobbs look too masculine for my taste.

ScoopyDoo · 15/11/2024 14:36

The whistles pair are a better shape, love the accentuated curve behind the heel.
Are you able to try both pairs on before ordering?

ImNotThereAmI · 15/11/2024 14:42

The whistles ones look cheaper imo, they’re nice but look like they could be from new look or somewhere. The Hobbs ones look much more expensive, to me anyway

LeftTheWashingOut · 15/11/2024 14:44

Hobbs for exactly the reasons you have said. I didn't read the rest of you post until I'd decided and instantly though "whistles look cooler now but the chunky sole will mean they could be dated next year"

lawlessland · 15/11/2024 14:46

I prefer the shape of the whistles boots.

Babymamamama · 15/11/2024 14:46

Just order both and see which is more comfy? Both are nice ish.

DreadPirateRobots · 15/11/2024 15:43

But. Fashion!

I can technically order them both, they'll just be heavy to pick up.

Masculine is not a problem. My aesthetic could probably be described as something between "gamine" and "soft butch" and I never wear skirts.

i like the Whistles ones better because they are chunkier. Wouldn’t worry about the ‘on trend’ bit. Chunky boots will be here to stay for a few more years for their sheer comfort alone.

snotathing · 15/11/2024 16:30

I'd go for Hobbs but my daughters would choose Whistles for the extra chunky.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 15/11/2024 16:36

I like the Hobbs ones best cause I like my socks to show and most of them wouldn't in the Whistles ones.

Are we helping you at all, OP? Given that none of us agree 😆

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 15/11/2024 16:38

I prefer the look of Hobbs ones, they are lovely but the other ones are nice too and for me comfort would trump everything so maybe try them both on and then decide?

It's a bit like flipping a coin and then seeing if you want to flip it again 😁I get to see which posters I want to argue with and which I don't.

Just get a pair of Docs instead.

KirstenBlest · 15/11/2024 16:58

Neither, but the Hobbs are better than the Whistles.

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/11/2024 17:13

Another vote for the Whistles ones. The Hobbs ones are just not as nice to me, too bland, more masculine (which I don’t like). I appreciate none of us are actually helping you op, lol. Sorry

moose62 · 15/11/2024 17:14

Hobbs

DreadPirateRobots · 15/11/2024 17:18

I asked and I knew what I was asking 😁 This is as much to clarify my own mind as anything. Not everyone will like my style, which is fine with me.

I'd try the John Lewis own brand ones, and then if I liked them I'd go to the theatre/Ottolenghi/a cashmere jumper shop with the spare eighty odd quid.

Hobbs - I prefer the slightly more square toe.

I looked at those, but I don't like the look around the laces as much. Although I agree they're a good choice and good price for chunky leather boots.

Hobbs for me but I agree it’s more about which one fits best, or maybe I just have difficult feet!
