Thank you @ScottishMouse .
All the time I lived in Fife I didn’t buy from Toast so have never been in the Edinburgh store. Now I’m in Norfolk and miles from a store just when I would like to visit one 🙄.

ScottishMouse · 09/05/2024 20:09

Ah that’s rubbish @Theteapotsbrokenspout. The Edinburgh store is great.

AvaGardens · 10/05/2024 22:55

I know viscose can be a bit love it or hate it, but as a, mostly, dress wearer I'm very tempted by this Bryn dress
But I'm not sure about the accuracy online with this colour?!

In some pics it looks pale and in others more vibrant.

Anyone have it irl? I'm nowhere near a shop, a 3 hour round trip 🙂

Does anyone have the Dip Dye Check Skirt or Dress at all please? They’re both cotton but the instructions say to dry clean only, with further details on the skirt about how not to machine wash it in order to preserve colour & pattern. Erm, what now!?! Presumably this also applies to the dress. I mean, they’re £175/£245 respectively, this is insane. I was wondering if anyone had just thrown either in the machine?

@Theteapotsbrokenspout just reporting back about the Asawa check shirt in the smaller size. I had a huge trying on session in store today and tried the xs in this. It fit pretty well without any pulling at the bust, but I have decided to keep the bigger one as I think the xs would have been a smidge too small with layers underneath (it was too hot to actually try it with layers!). So, hope that helps if you haven’t already ordered.

ScottishMouse · 11/05/2024 17:38

In case it helps anyone, I’ll also tell you about the other things I tried….
Cotton poplin stripe dress - beautiful and so flattering. I tried a 12 (would have been a 10 in old sizing, am a HS 12 on top, 10 on bottom) and the fit was perfect. I am definitely considering this.
Tiered cotton poplin dress in navy - a little tight at the armpits and I didn’t like all the gathers on me. I tried a 12.
V-neck garment dyed linen dress - I wanted to try it in caramel but they only had the mist blue (which looks more like green to me). It was almost perfect. Again I tried a 12. It is very long, and at 5’2” I would have needed to take it up. But the deal breaker for me was that it was a little tight on the upper arms. I often have this issue and I think it is a combination of wide shoulders and ample bust more than my arms, but I knew it would annoy me so I left it behind.
Check linen wide leg trousers - I was hoping these would be a summer version of a pair in cotton/cashmere that I have from years ago. Sadly they had pleats on the front that didn’t flatter me, and were also full length on me. The sizing was very small - a medium just fitted, and I am a new small/old xs in elasticated waist trousers usually.
Garment dyed linen barrel leg trousers in navy - ok, I know I was very negative here the other day about these, but I have them another go and ended up buying them. Size and shape are perfect for me (though I’ll need to take them up), and I can overlook the fabric which I would prefer to be a little thicker or a cotton/linen mix ideally, as they will be perfect in hot weather like this weekend. Size wise, my (new) normal small is a perfect fit.
Cotton merino marl knitted tank - this also came home with me. I didn’t intend to look at it, but it was styled in a lovely way in the shop and I tried it and it was great. Looks good with nothing underneath and also with a white shirt (and likely lots of other things, that is just what I had on anyway). It feels like it would be airy and light enough to wear on a warm day. Size-wise I bought a medium. Small would probably have fit but neatly, and I wanted it a little roomier for layering.
Trippen Alex sandals - someone here the other day suggested the toe bit might not be comfy. I found that fine, but it seemed like there was too much space at the top of the sandal because you can only get your toes in as far as the big toe will go into the loop bit. Maybe if I had longer toes?? Anyhow, glad they didn’t work as they are too spendy. But they were super comfy, and fit a wide-ish foot just fine.

Hope some of that might be helpful.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 11/05/2024 18:07

Thanks @ScottishMouse I will definitely order the S, I think that will be best for me providing it’s not too big on the shoulders.

Nice to have a review of some of the items in store. I think that stripe dress looks lovely on the product page, I was quite tempted but I really don’t need any more summer dresses.

OftenOrange · 11/05/2024 19:55

@ScottishMouse I loved reading about your trying on session, although I’m so not in the market for more Summer clobber I’m massively taken by the striped poplin dress!
Need to try it ….

ScottishMouse · 11/05/2024 20:11

It’s so lovely @OftenOrange. If I hadn’t bought so many other things this week, it would have come home with me.

ScottishMouse · 12/05/2024 17:30

Does anyone have the poplin sleeveless top from last summer - with a vneck and tie at the bottom of the v? It came in white and slate/navy and maybe one more colour. Can you tell me about sizing - is it old or new, neat on the bust, how low is the v? Thanks.

No1Mousie · 12/05/2024 17:52

@Qweesh I ordered the skirt on Friday ... and then read the review about it being dry-clean only,I am so annoyed at myself for not reading the care instructions. It is a bit frustrating that its dry-clean, as it will seriously limit when I wear it, and unless it is really special I will probably return it.

I do feel that Toast should make sure that garments like this are dye-fast. Surely its better to be able to do a low temp wash at home, than take it to the dry-cleaners who uses chemicals to clean clothes?

Qweesh · 12/05/2024 18:41

@No1Mousie it is frustrating isn’t it. Yes, agreed, it should be colour fast at those prices. Please let me know what you think of the skirt.

Me! Someone else has it too (@faustina possibly).
I would say it’s a small old sizing if you have a bust as I do. I tried it on while I was getting changed tonight just to check. It’s not very low cut, can’t see my cleavage but then mine’s heading south probably. From memory though I ordered 2 sizes and kept the smaller. Slightly neat under the arms. I wish they’d done the same style in White this year. I’m not holding out much hope for the new version.

I enjoyed reading about your try on too. Always great to hear about the fit of things.

faustina · 12/05/2024 20:37

@Countmeout -not me. I don't do sleeveless unless absolutely roasting

ScottishMouse · 12/05/2024 20:55

Thanks @Countmeout , that’s super helpful. I feel the same about this year’s version. It looks lovely, but probably not for those with much of a bust. I looked to try it on the other day but they don’t have it. Apparently it had been recalled due to sizing issues, and I see now that the bigger sizes are oos so I’m thinking they are re-labelling those as smaller sizes. 🤷‍♀️

OftenOrange · 12/05/2024 21:32

@ScottishMouse I have that top in slate and really love it , it’s roomy but neat under arms as @Countmeout says.
It was my favourite top last year I treated it as a going out piece ( hot climate !)

faustina · 13/05/2024 15:54

My Tetorn Terrang boots have arrived and they fit ok with socks - phew! It said they were used but they look like new and have come in the Tretorn box. Will have to try with long trousers tomorrow when it's cooler, to check they don't bash into my ankles when I walk (I think this is why I have a problem finding rain/ankle boots because I have short legs). A complete bargain for £27 though!

ScottishMouse · 13/05/2024 16:39

That is a great bargain @faustina! I got a couple of reworn pieces in the post today, but they are going back. A short sleeved pique jersey shirt which is far too small even though I’m sure that was the size I tried when they were in stores. And a cotton twill dress from quite some years ago which is massive in a size 12, but I probably wouldn’t have kept as it is not in great condition.
I’ve also reluctantly decided to send back the drawstring hem striped shirt having tried it on again this morning. I’m just too short and it swamps rather than wafts around me. It is exactly my style so I am sad about this, but there is just too much fabric which means it doesn’t really work under things either, and that would make it not so useful.

faustina · 13/05/2024 16:44

@ScottishMouse - that is a shame about the reworn things - this is the first time I've been lucky and not had to return because it was torn, or looking really tired (a pair of trousers and a jumper). I think you still had some success from your mega trying on shop session though, right?

ScottishMouse · 13/05/2024 16:55

I did indeed. The new navy linen barrel trousers and the blue cotton merino marl tank.
I have also ordered the new sleeveless poplin top but I suspect it will be going straight back as my bust will be an issue.

I had it. The v was very very low. I wore it in 6 which is my old toast size (now 8). But after washing it once the bust seam came undone and I couldn't mend it so sent it back for refund (all fine). But I missed it because I also have the poplin trousers in slate and I liked them together. So I have already bought this year's version in white and navy. The v is not as low. I bought s. Hope that helps

Stoic123 · 13/05/2024 17:20

A couple of Reworn pieces have arrived for me too. A tangerine boatneck dress from last year was in ok condition but the colour doesn't suit me so it's going back.

Also received was a Woven Ikat Dress which was a bit faded but that doesn't detract much from the loveliness and it is flattering so is being kept.

It's this one if you have FB.

ScottishMouse · 13/05/2024 17:39

That’s helpful re this year’s poplin top @Brillenbar47 , thank you! I have ordered a medium and a large, so will see. I’m not hopeful but would be delighted if it worked.

ScottishMouse · 15/05/2024 07:32

What is it about Swansea MC? Nearly every Toast order I have placed recently gets stuck there for an extra day or two. First world problems, but quite annoying when you plan a WFH day around it 😆

Countmeout · 15/05/2024 08:02

I’m not sure it’s completely stuck @ScottishMouse . It sometimes suddenly appears unexpectedly. It’s the time it takes Toast to get it into the mail system that irritates me.
