Do you have your nails done?

Do you go to a salon on a regular basis and get acrylic extensions or gel overlays?
Or do you just have natural nails?

Every 3 weeks. Gel overlay.

Possimpible · 21/09/2023 15:35

Nope, I can't have them for work reasons. Saves me a fortune. I had BIAB done for my wedding and did quite like them, but I didn't feel my hands were as clean as usual so can understand why we're not allowed them.

LuluLemony · 21/09/2023 15:38

I have acrylics every 3-4 weeks. Have done for about 15 years.

hhtrials · 21/09/2023 15:40

I've managed to grow mine at long last, and they're so long now that people ask if they're real. I only use a neutral nail polish and top coat. It requires daily maintenance (not much though, just hand salve at night, checking for nicks, which can split, with a fine file daily and being generally careful).

I wouldn't get the fake nails. Too many people I know have tried them and their own nails have been ruined, or they have gaps while they're growing out. Or they just look fake because they're so uniform and thick.

Used to have gels every 3 weeks. Loved them. Then got onicholysis on all nails so had to stop. I'd been a bit unwell so blamed that rather than the gels. My nails got better so went for gels again.....same thing. Every fingernail coming away again Sad It is either the lamp or chemicals. But I definitely won't be going near nail bars again!

Sundaygirl01 · 21/09/2023 15:43

I get mine done about twice a year for a night out or special occasion.

Malarandras · 21/09/2023 15:43

No. Doesn’t interest me. Also I constantly catch my nails on things so I do t think there would be much point in me getting my nails done. I love seeing lovely nail designs on other people though.

SpideyWoman1 · 21/09/2023 15:44

I go through phases. I had lots of events over the summer so kept acrylics on from June-September but now they’re off and I was looking forward to the break!

pumpkintits · 21/09/2023 15:48

I've never had my nails done, for some weird reason I can't handle my index finger nails being too long so I'd be useless with fake nails.

I'm also not keen on the long pointy acrylics with the colourful patterns, I definitely prefer a neutral polish or French manicure look.

GettingStuffed · 21/09/2023 15:49

I usually don't bother but I'm going away in November and I'm going to get them done for that. I apply nail varnish at home if I'm going out but it chips very quickly

PauliesWalnuts · 21/09/2023 15:49

Nah - climbing wall and allotment means that there’s no point. I keep them short, stick a bit of polish on for special occasions and that’s it.

MamaDollyorJesus · 21/09/2023 15:51

I get acrylic overlays every 3-4 weeks & have done for years as it's the only thing that stops me biting my nails. Considering BIAB next time as due a take off & new set but not convinced that it'll be as strong as the acrylic & worry about biting/breaking my nails.

Lottapianos · 21/09/2023 15:52

I do my own. Manicure once a week, pedicure every 2 weeks. I might get a professional mani every few months because they do a much better job with my cuticles than I do

Peridot1 · 21/09/2023 15:53

I used to get mine done - gel usually - for holidays or Christmas or other occasions but stopped a few years ago as hated how they looked after I had the gel removed. I’m going away tomorrow and had them done again today and although I love how they look I will be having them removed in two weeks and won’t have again for a while til the nails recover.

Mine are short though not long.

Wigglypasta · 21/09/2023 15:53

I had gel nails last Christmas- I had them done a couple of times and so had gel varnish on for about 5 weeks. My nails were destroyed afterwards - they were paper thin and kept ripping. Took nearly 6 months to recover. I want to have gel varnish all the time but I don't understand how it can be done without ruining your nails. What is the secret?

CrystalVision · 21/09/2023 15:57

Yep. Every four weeks. It's my treat.

ApolloandDaphne · 21/09/2023 16:00

BIAB every three weeks. I like having my nails look great even though the rest of me is a wreck!

EquallyDetermined · 21/09/2023 16:01

Only about twice a year. I keep them very short at all times, I can't bear the white to get longer than about 2mm, and do my own clear polish most of the time, coloured more in winter.

LollipopChaos · 21/09/2023 16:09

No, never had them done. Think they all look fake and awful.

My hairdresser suddenly got very long fake nails and my hair always looked like it was cut with a knife and fork. She lost my custom.

Shellac would work

cruffinsmuffin · 21/09/2023 16:18

Yep, BIAB every 3 weeks! Love having them done and changing the colours / designs with the season.

CheshireCat1 · 21/09/2023 16:18

I do my own and keep them in good condition and natural.

OldPear · 21/09/2023 16:22

I used to do my own gel at home, but have recently been converted to builder gel and (subtle) nail art. It’s amazing and I love it - I generally go every 3ish weeks.

TheFabledSnake · 21/09/2023 16:23

I just started to do my own full overlay gel tips. I hate waiting in nail bars forever and this way I can choose my design and do it in my own time. I bought a lamp etc and some nail stamps, it's fun to experiment

BarrysTeaForMe · 21/09/2023 16:23

Never. I'm not into nails at all, but sometimes I admire other people's nails if I like the look of them. Not the very long ones though.
