Never ever skinny jeans

all the time we have threads about skinny jeans and how everyone just lives them. WTAF? Where do you all live? I have about a twenty million pairs of jeans and have never owned skinnies and never will. (Am 5’9” and size 8 if that matters.) Anyone else?

Seriously people they look ridiculous.

They look ridiculous?! Ummm...I happen to look amazing in them. Just saying.

Janieforever · 08/09/2023 18:01

Actually I look good in mine. I’m fairly sure most think you look ridiculous in yours, so that’s ok then.

Optionyougot · 08/09/2023 18:03

I still see lots of people out and about in them. Hourglass and pear shapes in particular really suit them.

Some people dress for their body type, some to suit their style, some for whatever the latest fashion and some for comfort- It's all subjective and personal choice.

I couldn't be arsed judging them, it reflects more on you than them.

nottaotter · 08/09/2023 18:03

Im short and curvy, skinny jeans are the only ones that look good. Mom jeans look awful, make me look shorter and fatter! I don't mind the fatter but don't want to look shorter .

LaLoose · 08/09/2023 18:08

I also never see anyone wearing them (central London) or know anyone with any.

Good for you. I expect it helps that you're 5'9" and a size 8. You can wear most things with a figure like that. Not all of us are so blessed.
Pretty sure skinny jeans are still a wardrobe staple. I live near both a sixth form college and a university and love a good people watch- it would seem the 16-25 demographic are still fully embracing ALL cuts of jeans including skinny -many of them really pull off some fab contemporary looks in skinny jeans. I can see why so many on this board love a skinny jean, they're very easy to wear and can be easily tailored to suit. Perhaps you're just a bit lacking in imagination?!

GettingStuffed · 08/09/2023 18:15

I don't wear any jeans, the silliest are the ones that are distressed, especially if your big enough for your flesh to protrude from the holes.

That’s very odd, central London is full of them?

Fatpigsinblankets · 08/09/2023 22:28

I see them in London all the time. I don’t believe you don’t know ANYONE with a pair.

Skinny jeans have been massive for at least the last ten years. They are really versatile. Often people will find their legs are the slimmest part of them and like the idea of a bum/tum covering longer top to go with them. They can be dressed up and down very easily by changing the shoes and jewellery. They go with nearly all shoes.

My eye has changed a bit recently in that I can see how having skinny legs and a larger top half (which most people have) can look a little bit unbalanced and looser jeans are probably more flattering on a lot of people.

Larger on top plus a loose shirt covering bum looks like a box on legs. Someone I know who is what I assume is what is called an "apple shape" on here always wears skinny jeans and tucked in tops. It makes her look like an M & M person come to life.

They never went away. I see loads of people of all ages wearing them.

This is the result of googling skinny jeans. I don't think any of them look good and it's such a samey look.

'I'm tall and skinny and live in London don't you know! It's just you poor fat country types who wear skinny jeans. It's soooo uncool!'

gingerpassthegin · 09/09/2023 06:05

Where I lived at the time it was like a law had been passed that all women with small children had to wear skinny jeans and a Breton top and ballet flats between about 2008-2012.

The same law was used to bring in floral dirndl dresses for the past few years.

SquashPenguin · 09/09/2023 06:13

Come on then, you obviously think yourself some sort of fashionista- tell us what you wear. I’m sure everyone will be in awe of your trendsetting words of wisdom 😂

🤣🤣🤣

OP if you think they look ridiculous maybe hire a person stylist to give you some inspiration? Sounds like you're just doing a bad job of styling them!

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 06:15

Bit weird timing, they were massive years ago & are coming back round.

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 06:16

Hourglass and pear shapes in particular really suit them.

I think they suit model figure types better eg long legs, narrow hips.

OverTheCountryClub · 09/09/2023 06:24

To go one step further - I don't own any jeans AT ALL! Can't stand them - so uncomfortable and unflattering (on me! Other people look great!).

In a nutshell 😂

Maireas · 09/09/2023 06:30

Interesting. Kate Moss still wears them, but maybe she's behind the times. She has a fashion collaboration: The Kate Moss x Anine Bing a/w 23 as featured in Grazia. What's she wearing from the collection in the main picture? Skinnies.

What a load of rubbish!

Maireas · 09/09/2023 06:32

Many women wear leggings day to day, so there's that skinny leg silhouette around, still.

I don't own any jeans either. I don't think they look particularly great on anyone. They serve a function of covering the body but they're just not particularly interesting.

tiredandolderthanithought · 09/09/2023 06:34

Considering you can still buy them in primark I'm guessing they are still about!
