Never ever skinny jeans

LaLoose · 08/09/2023 17:57

all the time we have threads about skinny jeans and how everyone just lives them. WTAF? Where do you all live? I have about a twenty million pairs of jeans and have never owned skinnies and never will. (Am 5’9” and size 8 if that matters.) Anyone else?

Seriously people they look ridiculous.

OP posts:

Bershka, Stradivarius and H&M are piled high with skinny jeans in countless shades and rises.

I mean they aren't exactly Roman Originals are they?

ZebraDanios · 09/09/2023 11:29

Oh yes! A nude lip, a smoky eye…

Do you ever hear anyone say “a sock” or “a tight”? Those two seem immune at least.

A longjohn
A baggy pant
A croc
A tartan slipper
......nope

Piled up in Weekday Clothing as well.

I am fat and love skinny jeans! I look ridiculous in boot cut jeans - every magazine in the 00s told us how they will magically transform your shape - nah.

BusySittingDown · 09/09/2023 11:40

Yeah but if you're 5'9 and size 8 you probably look great in baggy jeans, the same as my 5'9, size 8 DD does.

I'm 5'2.5 and size 8 and look better in skinny jeans. I do wear baggy jeans (trying to be like the cool kids 😉) but in reality I look better in skinny. Baggy just make me look dumpy, which I'm not!

Weird because if you look at the jeans on Weekday website they only have 1 skinny jean stocked. In a mid blue and black. Perhaps they’ve got a lot of dead stock they’re trying to shift ?

The Latinas are mostly up all night cleaning your central London office @Divebar2021 . They would definitely fall into the category of people who are not “particularly stylish” and don’t deserve to be noticed by you

so much to unpick with this comment…. @WhatapityWapiti… I presumed that the Latina community are wearing skinny jeans in a more fun way than the ( white) women I’m seeing in my town, but as I said I don’t work near them so wouldn’t want to presume based on some stereotype. ( not that you’re worrying too much about stereotypes clearly).

My point was that they are a very invisible community in London due to the type of work that many of them do, propping up the City infrastructure working hideously unsocial hours in unstable jobs and the fact that people might claim never to have seen any of them because they don’t live near the areas where Latinos congregate says a lot. Most of my colleagues would have no idea who cleans their desk at 10pm every night. but on the odd occasion I have been working late I have heard the team chatting amongst themselves in Spanish, which I also speak, and I have taken the time to say hello and thank you. My cleaner at home is Colombian and has a lot of tales to tell about the night time office cleaning working conditions. The industry is dominated by Latinos.

Only 1skinny jean? 😂
Anyway, they seemed to have a big pile in a couple of colours. Make of that what you will.

@WhatapityWapiti

yeah I know what you meant… I’m the hoity toity who works in the City and I don’t notice the poor people as I swan about let alone their drab clothing choices. Something like that? Actually I work in the public sector ( in an unattractive brutalist building) in north end of Lambeth. Nothing swanky about the place I work. Our cleaner is a man. I have seen a great deal of people and properties in my line of work - very high end and very low end ( crack houses). I’m not the OP (who is clearly just cranking everyone’s chain ) and London is not the be all and end all but I also don’t really know anyone still wearing skinny jeans.

I don't understand this comment.

OK I admit that I was using you as a proxy for people in general who don’t seem to see people who are right under their noses and for that I apologise. I see that others have talked about living in bubbles so I think they got my point- it’s offensive to say that “nobody” is wearing a particular style when people like OP really mean “nobody that I deem to be worthy of note”.
Bizarrely my post has been deleted when it was literally an anti-racist post, as should be pretty obvious from the others that I made previously, but MNHQ will delete anything for a quiet life I guess.

Apology accepted and cross-apologised! I think perhaps all this talk of jeans on such a hot day is making me too hot and bothered.

Norachance · 09/09/2023 13:23

@RockaLock It was cool in our flat! When I got outside the heat hit me. At least I managed to evade the fashion police. Safely home now (in shorts)😀

Divebar2021 · 09/09/2023 13:28

Yeah it’s too hot! I’m ready for boots already.

what I do love at the moment, which we might all agree on is the choice available. I love that there are multiple styles of jean in the shops because for such a long time it was only skinny. Dresses have a bit of catching up to do with that regard… I have no interest in puff sleeves or milk maid vibes. Although as a previous poster said I do quite like not participating in a very popular trend. It’s just frustrating when you have a vision of what you want and you can’t find it in any kind of shop because the trends have gone in a different direction.

It's hot today, even on the north east coast. We have finally lost the sea fret, and the North Sea is full of people swimming.

I haven't seen anyone in jeans of any style.
I am wearing this dress today.

@WeAreBorg I regularly wear jeggings…because I find skinny jeans too solid and the same effect is achieved by jeggings without the thickness of the fabric. Would we even be allowed into central London or would be be turned back at Fashion Border Control?

Can only agree that skinny jeans look ridiculous on men - women look great in them

So true

GasDrivenNun · 09/09/2023 16:42

I used to wear skinnies and they're great with any footwear and are really the only jeans which work with knee high boots.
However I'm not sure I'm going back to skinnies (still got some in the cupboard) as I think I find the tightness on my lower legs a bit annoying now I wear slim leg.
Hate mom jeans and they look hideous on me and uncool too. Also they often don't have any Lycra and I hate that rigidity of 100% cotton.
Also have some fares and boot cuts but prefer still straight leg.

GasDrivenNun · 09/09/2023 16:44

@RampantIvy @Wanttobekind
Beware the Fashion Border Control are patrolling the ULEZ boundary, £12.50 or a fine if you don't pass the fashion test.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 09/09/2023 16:50

Men’s legs tend to look a bit silly in anything tight.

RampantIvy · 09/09/2023 17:04

In spite of my posts I don't own any skinny jeans. I have a couple of pairs of jeggings (so shoot me) and my jeans are slim straight leg ones.

Since my infamous visit in my jegging they fired the Chief Superintendent of Fashion Border Control and embarked on a massive reshuffle.

We won’t even get south of Hull now I’m afraid

Maireas · 09/09/2023 17:06

Everything worth visiting is north of Hull, anyway.
