Never ever skinny jeans

all the time we have threads about skinny jeans and how everyone just lives them. WTAF? Where do you all live? I have about a twenty million pairs of jeans and have never owned skinnies and never will. (Am 5’9” and size 8 if that matters.) Anyone else?

Seriously people they look ridiculous.

You're missing out.

HTH.

I honestly don't think jeans matter that much at the moment. No, listen, hear me out, of course there are still loads in the shops, every style under the sun, they're a wardrobe staple. But as a signal of knowing what's current (yes yes, I know lots of you don't care), then surely it's far more about footwear right now?

I'm not even that interested in shoes myself but you've only got to look at all the threads about trainers and the widespread dismissal of heels (which reminds me of how flares were viewed circa 2010 - and yes I'm sure heels are on their way back too) to see what causes more anxiety on this board.

That's my view, and for jeans wearers of all loyalties, I see both positives and negatives:

Upside - as Divebar says, anything goes, lots of choice and there's never been a better time to try out a different style if you want to.

Downside - not so useful paired with a nice top for an easy, failsafe night-out uniform when you haven't been out since Methuselah was a lad and you just want to fit in with everyone else. (If you don't believe me, try suggesting it and I bet the very next question will be, 'Yes, but what kind of jeans?')

@Floisme

I agree - I think other types of trouser have become more prominent like cargo trousers ( which are always seemingly described as a pant ) and my favourite the pleated trouser. There is of course the rise of the denim skirt to consider also. I tried a wrap one which was flattering but I couldn’t work out how to make it work so I’ve sent it back - not really my vibe. Anything goes in London though - no one gives a shit. 😊

Come to St John’’s Wood - it full of them. And sometimes the bearers of that rarest of sartorial items are not even paid help. London residents aren’t nearly as stylish as those commenting on here suggest.

Although I’ve just bought a pair of M and S cord jeggings, so fully expect soon to be hounded from Da Wood, pursued by anmerican banker’s wives and Maltepoos.

I've never owned skinnies, but that's because I hate the feel of them. Slim cut yes, but I feel they suit me better.

I'm glad now that there is more variety in cuts of jeans.

I also never see anyone wearing them (central London) or know anyone with any.

I'm in London a lot , are you walking round with your eyes shut? Of course people are still wearing them.

@Labbingtons I contemplated those but am too lazy to go near a town. I often find stretch cord feels too soft and more like velvet, how is the texture on them?

'I'm tall and skinny and live in London don't you know! It's just you poor fat country types who wear skinny jeans. It's soooo uncool!'

🤣🤣🤣

notquiteruralbliss · 11/09/2023 06:39

If I wear jeans not leggings they will be skinny. Often with long socks. and paddock boots My main criteria is that they should be comfortable, OK to ride in and fit inside wellies. When skinny low rise jeans went out of style, I inherited a few pairs from my DCs. Admittedly, I care little about what I look like as long as I am comfortable.

I have those cord jeggings in multiple colours, they are a useful bit of kit. I've never worn them in Central London obviously.

Wait for Winter and the bottom of your baggy / wide leg / whatever / 90s style jeans are really great all ripped, muddy and wet. Love that look.
