Never ever skinny jeans

LaLoose · 08/09/2023 17:57

all the time we have threads about skinny jeans and how everyone just lives them. WTAF? Where do you all live? I have about a twenty million pairs of jeans and have never owned skinnies and never will. (Am 5’9” and size 8 if that matters.) Anyone else?

Seriously people they look ridiculous.

OP posts:

I love mine , they are so easy when wearing boots 🥾 no folding around or tucking in excess material .

MaggieBsBoat · 09/09/2023 08:34

I think if you don’t have the body of a catwalk model / pubescent boy then you look awful in them. Guaranteed.
I’ve overheard too many teenagers laughing about older women (in their twenties!) in them that I can’t take them seriously.

i do though think that the women who wear them feel great in them and feel that they look great and in the end that’s all that matters. Not what other people think or the mockery of teens.

i feel jealous of that kind of self-confidence. Teach me it. Seriously, you are amazing.

Maireas · 09/09/2023 08:37

I think if we avoided anything that might make teens snigger, we'd have a limited wardrobe. Best only pay heed to those whose opinions you value, and your personal shape, preferences and lifestyle.

AutumnColour89 · 09/09/2023 08:38

It does make me laugh sometimes how so many people are so keen to be seen as 'fashionable' and to be told what to wear.

I'm glad the fillers/duck lips trend and aesthetic from a few years ago seems to be fading, hope this 'fashion' obsession can too. Catty comments about what others where is not cool- start appreciating our differences.

OooohAhhhh · 09/09/2023 08:39

You wouldn't want to hang around with me then OP 😂 I live in skinny jeans & leggings. What do you think of leggings? Just curious.
I look good in my skinny jeans. I'm a size 8, 5'7 and get complimented on my long legs & physique all the time. So not everyone looks ridiculous in them 😀

Teenagers aren't the arbiters of style

Jevwaypock · 09/09/2023 08:40

Oh no guess I’ll have to throw mine away because you don’t own any. I work and live in central London and see skinny’s ALL the time. My sister is 21 and all her mates wear skinny’s. Who gives a flying fuck who wears what jeans?!!!

Er, stop eavesdropping on teens and if they are your own children teach them some respect?

MrsColinRobinson · 09/09/2023 08:41

Well don't you sound nice 🙄

Awaiting further fashion advice from the girl in the know (from central London don't you know!), or better still a pic of you in your frumpy mom jeans.

Tbh most teenagers are wearing what we wore in the 90’s and early 00’s they just have no idea😂

ZolaBudd · 09/09/2023 08:42

What is Strange post? You’ve never had an item of clothing so why do other people?

But why does teenagers laughing about people wearing them make you not want to wear them? If I overheard teenagers laughing about anyone's style I'd tell them to grow the fuck up rather than listen to them. Teenagers are supposed to dress differently to me

I know that gen z have a real thing against skinny jeans. And it's a bit obsessive. I don't remember spending time thinking about older women's outfits when I was their age.

Skinny jeans are no longer the height of fashion. But they are just a Jean. They are a very basic item of clothing and calling them ridiculous or odd is very overdramatic.

ShellySarah · 09/09/2023 08:45

I used to have skinny jeans. I like the way they don't flap around the ankle like boot cuts etc and can wear any foot wear without it looking daft.

Mom jeans are utterly dreadful imo. Wouldn't be seen dead in them.

I can’t believe this racist tosh survived your edit. Piss off with your stereotyped bigoted comments.

CarPour · 09/09/2023 08:50

I have tired so hard to break away from the skinny jean. But honestly the skinny is just so comfy and practical.

They are stretchy. They fit my bum and my waist. They don't drag or flap. I have full movement of my knees. They go with most shoes and most tops. They are so easy to wear

Wider leg jeans are just so bloody annoying. And heck now I've found out no one even owns a skinny in London I feel more like a trendsetter 🤣

CornishGem1975 · 09/09/2023 08:53

LaLoose · 08/09/2023 18:08

I also never see anyone wearing them (central London) or know anyone with any.

LOL. Don't feed the troll people.

Divebar2021 · 09/09/2023 09:04

The Latinas are mostly up all night cleaning your central London office @Divebar2021 . They would definitely fall into the category of people who are not “particularly stylish” and don’t deserve to be noticed by you

so much to unpick with this comment…. @WhatapityWapiti… I presumed that the Latina community are wearing skinny jeans in a more fun way than the ( white) women I’m seeing in my town, but as I said I don’t work near them so wouldn’t want to presume based on some stereotype. ( not that you’re worrying too much about stereotypes clearly).

NatashaDancing · 09/09/2023 09:07

jllll · 09/09/2023 08:32

@NatashaDancing this advert below your post cracked me up. Are these your go to trousers rather than jeans 😆😆😆😆🤔

I don't wear trousers. That advert just shows how utterly skewed the algorithms on here are.

Or actually not- it may be reflecting the theme of the thread but it bears no resemblance to what I wear or am interested in. It's not appearing for me anyway.

hdbs17 · 09/09/2023 09:08

Eh?! Have you been living under a rock?

They're still in every shop as a staple because they're the best jean to wear with high boots.

Divebar2021 · 09/09/2023 09:09

I don’t think skinny jeans are interesting and I haven’t seen anyone put together an outfit with them that I think is interesting recently. I’m bored of them… I’m bored of white trainers too. It doesn’t mean anyone should stop wearing them if they love them and feel great in them. I’ve put both things away and no doubt when the time is right they’ll both be out again.

Britpopbaby · 09/09/2023 09:10

I personally don’t wear them. After a significant weight loss I tried them on in a shop and couldn’t face my reflection in the mirror in terms of how my legs looked and my legs are one of my best features. It was too much out of my comfort zone. When I was plus size bootlegs were my style of choice even though they were not in. Now it’s straight, girlfriend (not so much now), wide leg and flared.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 09/09/2023 09:13

Your post should read ‘they look ridiculous ON ME’. Just because something doesn’t suit you doesn’t mean it looks crap on everyone else too.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 09/09/2023 09:14

Am 5’9” and size 8 if that matters.

it doesn’t.

NatashaDancing · 09/09/2023 09:17

Janieforever · Today 07:24

I often suspect when people post things like this it’s to try to , oddly, influence, because it’s a style they personally don’t like or don’t suit. So they want them to go out of fashion totally

interesting comment. I don't like them and have never worn them but rather than wanting rid of them if anything I prefer being "the person not wearing skinny jeans". It was mildly annoying that despite floral dresses being one of my staples, since like forever they were suddenly everywhere.

Still your suggestion would at least give some point to this thread.

WeAreBorg · 09/09/2023 09:26

I wore a jegging in central London once. Can you imagine!
They were talking about it for days, probably still are
