Never ever skinny jeans

LaLoose · 08/09/2023 17:57

all the time we have threads about skinny jeans and how everyone just lives them. WTAF? Where do you all live? I have about a twenty million pairs of jeans and have never owned skinnies and never will. (Am 5’9” and size 8 if that matters.) Anyone else?

Seriously people they look ridiculous.

OP posts:

That spray on skinny leg look on KM is pretty dated tbf.

isthismylifenow · 09/09/2023 08:06

The shops are full of skinny jeans.

I sure they would not be if people were not still buying them.

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 08:08

As an aside, I really like the Kate Moss/Anine Bing clothing.

Same

AllAtSea53 · 09/09/2023 08:08

OP, as a previous poster wisely pointed out, the section is Style & Beauty. Some people blindly follow fashion, some people dress for what suits their body shape, some are practical, some have a specific style.

I dress for what suits me and what I look good in, and as a short small hourglass- that's skinny jeans. I also love boots and not dragging round flaps of puddle drenched denim.

Personally, I think the world would be a better place if we all stopped being so desperate to look the same, focused on our own styles and stopped encouraging retailers to churn out bad quality clothes in the name of fast fashion.

Ýsette · 09/09/2023 08:09

Can only agree that skinny jeans look ridiculous on men - women look great in them

jugggugg · 09/09/2023 08:14

They are more popular in winter weather. And it's easier to pull off baggy jumpy, big coat with a slimmer leg.

Panjandrum123 · 09/09/2023 08:15

I was a teenager when skinny jeans were the thing to wear (and I was slim then), I am 5’7”. I have tried other styles over the years and I mostly wear slim jeans now. From time to time I still wear my skinny jeans and think f*ck it. I know I don’t look brilliant in them and am no longer a size 12 but I don’t care, they feel comfortable and familiar. I work in London, though not central London and live in village. I wear my skinny jeans anywhere I want.

PhilMitchellsleatherbomber · 09/09/2023 08:15

I think there needs to be a separate skinny jeans topic on Mumsnet.

Yep the ‘skinny jeans are out’ threads have been running since 2012, over a decade! Clearly River Island and all the high street shops didn’t get the mumsnet memo.

otherwayup · 09/09/2023 08:16

LaLoose · 08/09/2023 18:08

I also never see anyone wearing them (central London) or know anyone with any.

I'm in awe that you manage to see what every single person, in every inch of central London is wearing 24 hours a day.
That's magical 😂

What? Nooo. The OP has graced us with Brand New Information

PhilMitchellsleatherbomber · 09/09/2023 08:20

@Janieforever often suspect when people post things like this it’s to try to , oddly, influence, because it’s a style they personally don’t like or don’t suit. So they want them to go out of fashion totally

Yes I suspect this as well.

Jifmicroliquid · 09/09/2023 08:22

They very much suit a certain body shape. I think they accentuate hips and bums and that’s no always a good thing in some people.

catsliketowearsocks · 09/09/2023 08:22

They are much more convenient to wear with pretty much any footwear compared to other jeans... boots, flats, trainers, sandals....

LuciferRising · 09/09/2023 08:23

I don't understand why people think skinny jeans look odd. It follows the shape of the Human body, which doesn't look odd.

I agree. Some people look amazing in them. Not all human M&Ms 🙄

OP you are so unfashionably late to the ‘skinny jeans are out’ party

43ontherocksporfavor · 09/09/2023 08:25

They were great for wearing with boots. I now wear flares and wide leg which are great with trainers or sliders but don’t like with boots.

43ontherocksporfavor · 09/09/2023 08:27

And my DDs of 23 and 19 tell me they are OUT but what do they know! Wear what you like! If leggings are still ok then surely skinnies are as same body contour shape!

Mirabai · 09/09/2023 08:29

Also this is style and beauty, not fashion and beauty, and some women suit skinny jeans far more than other styles.

It’s not really style though is it - more M&S, Clark’s and Boden.

Maireas · 09/09/2023 08:29

I agree about the shape of ever popular leggings. As I said upthread, same silhouette.
Our yr12 and 13 girls wear a real variety of outfits. Skinnies are still popular with some of them.

I don't understand.
If you buy anything from those shops, you're automatically not stylish?

Fifireee · 09/09/2023 08:30

Are you leaving your house or just walking around with your eyes closed?!

Fifireee · 09/09/2023 08:32

Also can I point out it’s BOILING in London at the moment so you’d have to be mad to wear skinny jeans - although I saw a man in a fleece yesterday in 31 degree heat.

jllll · 09/09/2023 08:32

@NatashaDancing this advert below your post cracked me up. Are these your go to trousers rather than jeans 😆😆😆😆🤔

I also never see anyone wearing them (central London) or know anyone with any.

The trick here is that you need to learn to “see”, and hopefully know, people who are different ages, races, weights to you, who have different tastes, musical preference, style, backgrounds, jobs, etc etc.

Skinny jeans are commonplace. That’s fact. If you can’t see that, it’s because you’ve restricted youself to a small bubble. Which is very sad.
