Never ever skinny jeans

all the time we have threads about skinny jeans and how everyone just lives them. WTAF? Where do you all live? I have about a twenty million pairs of jeans and have never owned skinnies and never will. (Am 5’9” and size 8 if that matters.) Anyone else?

Seriously people they look ridiculous.

Also can I point out it’s BOILING in London at the moment so you’d have to be mad to wear skinny jeans - although I saw a man in a fleece yesterday in 31 degree heat.

I was thinking this! Plus the humidity is so high; I haven't worn my skinnies for a while because I'd be too hot. I find my thinner denim, looser fit jeans, rolled up so ankles are showing, plus sandals are much cooler. Other than that, I'm in shorts or summer frocks on really hot & humid days.

I wear skinny jeans because I've got short skinny legs and I love them because most other jeans swamp my legs.

You don't say how old you are. I'm 38 and when I was a teenager there was nothing less cool or less flattering than mom jeans. They were worn by 'moms' not cool young teenagers. And here they are cool again because now moms are wearing skinnies. There are only so many styles of jeans and they cycle around. Look forward to embracing the skinny jeans in 15 years or so.

I wear skinny jeans in winter, spring and autumn because I’m really short and if I wear any other style of jeans and it’s been raining the bottoms end up wet. They don’t look great on me but then nothing does!

What I don’t understand is why, when it’s freezing and I’m wearing jeans tucked into boots, everyone else is going about with bare ankles. Don’t they get cold?!

@LaLoose Maybe you don't know that many people then 🙄 I should imagine age plays a factor in this.
I think you should post a picture of your "size 8" self in what is IN and COOL for the rest of us bumpkins to aspire to as we clearly are offending you Central London types who maybe have too much time on your hands.

I'm always confused by the "skinny jeans are so dated" trope that gets mentioned on mumsnet all the time when the shops are full of them and so many people still wear them. In Primark you are hard pushed to find any other style of jeans.

Crinolines and farthingales are dated. I never see anyone wearing them. I can't remember the last time I saw anyone wearing a bowler hat either.

I agree it is an age thing. DD is 23 and doesn't even own any skinny jeans, and none of her friends wear them.

I'm in London and work in media/entertainment. The twenty-year-old interns still wear them as do most of the 20-30 something employees.

Posters have been trying to say skinny jeans are passé almost the entire time I've been on mumsnet but it doesn't reflect real life.

Are you at least 5' 9"? Are you a size 8 or less? Do you work in a creative industry? I think these are all really, really important factors 😊

It's already 27c in London and only going to get hotter - how can you bear to wear skinny jeans when it's this hot!?!
