Has anyone else been in recently? I was in today and it was just fabulous - so many nice pieces - and not just the sienna Millar campaign stuff

Do they have any nice wide leg jeans? I have been wearing their straight jeans, want to update, but are they too wide?

Their knickers are terrible, I agree. No gusset.

I've bought this last year and not worn it because I can't work out what to wear it with. What are you teaming yours with?

I have an earlier version of this - I wear it with a sequin mini skirt in December!

RampantIvy · 08/09/2023 21:06

M&S is a shop of two halves. You have the large new stores stocking reasonably nice clothes and they haven't oversized everything quite as much as other places

This pretty much describes the store at Meadowhall. It is excellent.

I don't understand the comments about the gussets in knickers being too small. I don't find that to be the case.

Have they started making decent knickers again? Their selection has been so shocking and of such bad quality for the last couple of years that I’m trying to keep my favourite ones going until they either bring back the decent cotton low rise shorts that I used to love or I can eventually find similar ones for the same prices elsewhere.

Sainsburys underwear is basic but very good quality and not expensive either.

Britpopbaby · 08/09/2023 21:28

I looked around yesterday and everything just seemed off a little. I don’t really see the OMG aspect to M&S

Britpopbaby · 08/09/2023 21:30

saying That I found a nice jumper in the kids section that if it fits will be perfect for winter. Only £20 and you’d not know it was from the kids section.

for fellow short arses who find M&S trousers too long now, I've recently got some nice cords and wide leg jeans from Fat Face, and the length is spot on for 5ft1 little me

Thanks, that's useful to know.

It's wall to wall polyester and all the fabric patterns mismatched at the seams. Cheap looking.

This

I also find that tops and dresses have built-in gut accommodation in the form of a large pouch at the front. Nothing is flattering unless it can be belted.

I have a few velvet jackets, although this is my first plain black version (the others are the patterned Boden of old). I wear them all in a variety of ways - with t-shirts and jeans, with straight shift style dresses, or with soft patterned trousers. I have a co-ord, which is b&w polka dot, soft wide leg drape trousers, so a more structured jacket, with a softer outfit is something I wear. I have also worn a sequin t-shirt top, with black trousers and the velvet jacket. I like to mix textures.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/09/2023 13:13

I went into the Birmingham branch today. Total rubbish. They hadn't got any of the things I wanted. Very annoying.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 09/09/2023 14:55

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie the central Birmingham one is horrible. Dark, depressing and mostly empty. The Longbridge retail park one is like a completely different shop.

Justkoko · 09/09/2023 18:42

I rather like that velvet jacket. Won't it just pick up every bit of white fluff there is though? I can just imagine having yo brush it before every outing! Plus, as a shortie, I expect it will be too long in the body and sleeves!

I rather like this but hard to tell if it'll be too boxy and overwhelm my frame. It's a bit different for me but I like it.

Ps, what do you think to these loafers? I've posted on another thread but while I'm here...I like the detail but slightly unsure if the gathering is a bit off.

@Justkoko is that the one from the current campaign? If so I saw and had a feel of it today and was not particularly impressed with the material.

Justkoko · 09/09/2023 19:12

Yes, it is, only a bit of wool in it tbh but it always seems to be the way at the moment. Thought it could look quite stylish and be cosy for cooler evenings. Was it lined?@Britpopbaby

Britpopbaby · 09/09/2023 19:16

I love those loafers

LimeCheesecake · 09/09/2023 21:09

The trouser length sizing seems odd- and if you look online to their size guide, the inside leg they list for short, regular, long etc bares no relation to the trousers they have made. So online ordering is a faff.

so many woman who are average height (5’4” ish) who previously wore “regular” length now need short. So many shorter woman who wore their short now find them too long.

i can’t order online from them and they produce so many different lines, they can’t hold them all in store so a trip to visit isn’t a guarantee of being able to check sizing.

LimeCheesecake · 09/09/2023 21:12

and of course this year they have continued their great love of the man made fibre. Bit of cashmere but the bulk of their jumpers being made of crap that won’t wash well. I’d rather spend £5-10 more and get something that will last more than one winter, or if I’m doing fast fashion, get something more fashionable.

Yes I really fancy money off jeans, maybe trainers, and I'm also thinking about this dress (viscose not polyester - I'm not sure the photo does it justice).

Shock You would have to pay me a lot of money to be seen in public in this!

I’ve just had a look at the new autumn collection - really disappointed tbh, nothing I would wear at all!

Exactly. Cheap and tawdry clothes, but not cheap prices!
