Has anyone else been in recently? I was in today and it was just fabulous - so many nice pieces - and not just the sienna Millar campaign stuff

Best m n s has been in a long time

People who say, blah blah quality and then buy in Primark instead

Because if there is very little difference in quality between a cheap price store and a mid price store you may as well pay less if your purse only stretches as far as mid range and you can't afford the prices of something that actually is well made .

takemeouttown · 08/09/2023 09:25

The fabric is awful though. Polyester and recycled sweaty fabrics in almost everything they sell.

shearwater · 08/09/2023 09:31

Yes it's quite good now, has been for a couple of years I think.

It will be all autumn/winter stuff in now though - going to be 30C today so I will not buy buying knitwear!

usernother · 08/09/2023 09:33

I love M&S clothing and find that looking at stuff online first helps because often it looks much better worn than it does on the hanger (even though I'm twice the size and age of the models). I've just ordered a shirt and some jeans and when I go to pick them up I'll no doubt pick up some other stuff too.

shearwater · 08/09/2023 09:34

Online ordering and returns are good too. Very easy.

RampantIvy · 08/09/2023 08:11

Having just googled it, what is your issue with the progress flag @PosterBoy?

I'm now boycotting all support of specific religion and politics by cynical corporations who don't actually believe any such thing they say, in this case gender-woo washing.

I don't personally support gender identity theory and don't see the connection to my M+S store. But if they wish to be religious or political, their choice. I'm not encouraging it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/09/2023 09:39

I used to wear M&S long leg!, now I can get away with S! My inside leg is 32"!

DigbyTheDigger · 08/09/2023 09:43

For those looking for good pants, Boody are great.

2jacqi · 08/09/2023 09:44

I have actually gone into M & S and just shook my head!! Neither I nor my friends wore the horrible dresses the first time round but here we go again!! absolutely dreadful and definitely not well made. Also, could someone tell me why they feel the need to make all the dresses to fit women who are over 6feet tall?? by the time I will have chopped off 12 inches the dress looks totally different. Too much fabric for a 5 foot tall woman to wear. I would not wear half the stuff to work in the garden!!!

Lottapianos · 08/09/2023 09:46

'I don't personally support gender identity theory and don't see the connection to my M+S store. But if they wish to be religious or political, their choice. I'm not encouraging it.'

I totally agree with you - it's lazy cynical virtue signalling nonsense. However, so many companies are on this particular bandwagon that I fear I would be left with nowhere to actually shop, so it's path of least resistance for me on this occasion

mintich · 08/09/2023 09:48

I follow their stylists on Instagram and have bought quite a few outfits based on their styling

Doggymummar · 08/09/2023 09:52

I logged on at midnight to buy one of each Sienna piece on Wednesday and didn't buy a thing it looked dreadful to me, I have one pair of trousers and one jumper in my basket but don't like them enough to buy. I so wanted to live it all.

Who are their stylists?

ThePoshUns · 08/09/2023 09:55

I really like M&S anyway as their clothes fit me well.
I like the look of the new collection and will definitely be buying but just not yet in this heat.
Although did order a pair of stone coloured cowboy boots when I ordered the new beauty box last week!

Yes same here, I find they style the clothes better than on the website.

Faceplantagain · 08/09/2023 09:59

I ventured into their wide-fitting shoes section this summer and bought a classic pair of fisherman's sandals which were incredibly comfortable from the first wearing. I also discovered an Autograph cashmere section, where I couldn't resist a crew neck on one visit and a really nice slipover on a second.

TerrorOwls · 08/09/2023 10:04

M+S knickers are made for men now. Just check the (moderated) online reviews for them (if you have a strong stomach).

Are the trousers all made for men too now?

JofraArchersFastestBall · 08/09/2023 10:11

Good lord @TerrorOwls, women can be tall too you know. Having spent my life unable to wear any high street trousers, I'm grateful for the fact that some shops now recognise that women come in a range of heights.

So odd that people spring up to decry shops having political ideologies and showing concern about safe spaces for women - but they can't let us have a thread about clothing without spouting off about their own views.

I just ignore it TBH. It isn't something I feel strongly enough about to affect my shopping habits.

This thread is going to seriously affect my bank account.

TerrorOwls · 08/09/2023 10:25

I was genuinely wondering about the trousers because in short length (not petite) and the last pair I got from M&S were really long on me.
It's confusing why this has happened as it seems many women are having issues.

Lottapianos · 08/09/2023 10:30

'Having spent my life unable to wear any high street trousers, I'm grateful for the fact that some shops now recognise that women come in a range of heights.'

They should all be doing it, it's just not good enough to make women's trousers in only one length. I don't know why they can't just tell you what the inside leg measurements are, instead of all the short/regular/long nonsense

Totally agree, and certainly last year I bought men's chinos in M&S as the womens still all came in 29" length and/or were slim cut and/or were not available in black/navy blue in autumn. In the men's I was able to buy by waist measurement and length which is so useful.

I still think their men's clothes tend to be better quality than women's which is variable.

RampantIvy · 08/09/2023 10:48

That wouldn't work for most women because if they fit on the waist they won't go over the hips. We are a different shape to men.
