As in looks you've worn in recent years that now look wrong or frumpy? (no Mumsnet debate on the word frumpy please!)

Heels, unless it’s chunky boots with a heel.

Dresses with leggings underneath.

Three- quarter sleeve cropped cardis to wear with dresses in the summer

Cardigans. I used to wear them all the time with jeans or dresses - simple cashmere or merino ones. Nothing too fussy... but I just can't get them to work at all now. I guess the fashion has changed, plus my jeans are baggier and my dresses longer. Shame though, they were so practical.

High heels now look ridiculous somehow

Tapered trousers.

(I'm 40+, and this list is just about what I've noticed on me, not anyone else, and not a particular criticism of any of these items, they seem to look fine on other people):

Skirts with floaty, uneven hems

Tiny pendants and thin rings - any delicate jewellery.

the coats with fur hoods that come in at the waist

too much make up
faces with too much ‘work’
branded handbags/handbags in general

Ballet flats, I know they were supposed to be back but I haven't seen much evidence out and about. I used to think they were a perfect classic staple but they do look dated on the odd occasion you see them now.

massive dark eyebrows (unless they're natural)

Those big floral prints (I think they're mostly smaller these days)

Does it really matter though? Just wear whatever you're comfortable in and what you like.

Always hated wearing heels and it doesn't seem like it's a thing now since covid

I think ballet flats are a staple - they still look good, especially if expensive!
but I agree on knee high boots, little cardigans and high heels

Decorative scarfs (that are not for warmth).

Matt skin is very dated. Dewy all the way is more up to date.

Agree on cardigans, which is a shame as I have so many.

Denim skirts (shorts seem to be everywhere though).

Spending money on clothes is going to be our of reach for a lot of people. "Dated" looks will be in because that is all everyone will be able to afford!

This is an interesting read. I'm late 60s. My knees look awful now so a dress over leggings or skinny jeans feels better for me (I look hideous in maxi dresses, tried many). I sometimes wear long floaty scarves to 'disguise' my big tum. Ballet flats are comfy - may get new trainers though. Cardis? I have many in different bright colours.

That thing of wearing a big scruffy looking hoody with a smart overcoat over the top, with the hood pulled out over the coat.

Always thought it looked a bit weird but people loved it for a while. Saw someone doing it the other day and just reminded how awful it was.

What’s the alternative to ballet flats then? If heels are out what do you wear to the pub / meal
