As in looks you've worn in recent years that now look wrong or frumpy? (no Mumsnet debate on the word frumpy please!)

Side partings!

Oh bugger.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 30/06/2022 13:33

Centre partings make me look like Neil from the Young One so I'm happy to hang on to my sidey. I'll just pretend I've been a trend setting, early adopter when they come back in fashion.

narcex · 30/06/2022 13:36

Hairstyles where one side is long and the other side is shaved and dyed jet black
Long fake acrylic nails
Thick fake eyelashes
Slug tattoo brows
Lace
Bags with logos

People saying leggings and dresses! That was a trend back in the early 2000's, of course it's outdated now.

Any formal business wear looks so out dated - especially on women. (appreciate those jobs that demand it).

I still love cardigans - but can no longer wear the boxy trend. And to my shame I still like skinny jeans - all the others just look wrong on me!

I wish puff sleeves would die a death. Talking of sleeves, 3 quarter length or cold shouldered (shudders) - very outdated.

Generally overdressing (in the south east) doesn't feel fashion forward but I know in some of the northern city's the girls go to town with what they wear out.

The big bum aesthetic is definitely going (although flat bums like mine weren't playing ball anyway).

And lastly 'leggings and long-tops' never been a trend, but always looks outdated.

The big bum aesthetic is going? What on earth have big bummed women done with their big bums to avoid looking dated?

Luxa · 30/06/2022 13:40

OK, so what looks best with a longline tunic top? I can't wear shorter t-shirts as don't have the waist for it. If not leggings, then what?

IVFPrayingForBioChild · 30/06/2022 13:41

Dated and laughable ...
Botox
Lip fillers
Face caked with make up
Fake slug eyebrows
Fake tan
Tracksuits when not in the gym
Leisurewear outside the house
Block colour hair dye
Dark hair dye on older people
Coloured hair - pink etc
Clothes that don't fit properly
Body con dresses
High heels / shoes shoes
Ballet pumps rounded at the front / pointy ok
Burberry
Armani
Matching handbag and shoes
Leggings
Long dresses with thick tights or leggings
Long hair if it is limp
Short hair with no style

Most people just don't know how to dress.

Magicpaintbrush · 30/06/2022 13:42

So much of what is mentioned here is in my wardrobe mainly because I cannot afford to update it. I can't even afford to splash out on a new pair of socks at the moment. So all I live in are skinny jeans, basic tops and cardigans with pumps. My sister very kindly bought myself and DH tickets to a concert in London tomorrow and I just don't know what the hell I'm going to wear, I feel so embarrassed of my clothes, I'd burn them all if I could replace them.

IVFPrayingForBioChild · 30/06/2022 13:47

Don't wear the tunic - unless on holiday over a bikini why wear one?! Unless you want to and don't care about fashion.

Leggings are for the gym and to do your housework in.

Wear a baggy t shirt that goes just over your waist and shorts or a dress.

So what do you wear then?

sHREDDIES19 · 30/06/2022 13:50

It's more a case of the wearer than the clothes themselves I think. Take for example fashions of the 80 and 90s that youth culture has picked up on more recently, they somehow get away with it! If you're middle aged and overweight, you basically have to be really dress for your shape rather than the clothes dressing you.

velvetvixen · 30/06/2022 13:52

Examples of tunics please? can't picture what is meant.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/06/2022 13:53

Bussels, I've put mine at the back of cupboard until, hopefully, they come back into fashion.

notacooldad · 30/06/2022 13:53

Why is it daft? Trends and fashiins are set by clothing companies to make money, not for our benefit.
Because it is on a page where people like to be stylish. Your comment would have been ok if it was in general chat

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 30/06/2022 13:53

Leisurewear outside the house

You may not be into this look but I don't think you can say that leisure wear outside the house is dated. Leisure wear seems to be the main look these days.

JaneJeffer · 30/06/2022 13:54

I'll wait for the newspaper version.

ForeverTeach · 30/06/2022 13:56

Sometimes I feel like mumsnet is not the fountain of friendly shared knowledge, more an opportunity to bitch and be critical of others. Anyway, there is classical fashion and fast fashion. I personally feel like classical pieces will look beautiful if they suit you. Fast fashion, well it’s good for a season.

No idea! Don't shoot the messenger. We've had a good 10 years of it being all about the bottom, in the 90s it was all about the boobs (and the grungy look too), 2000's all about the navel and low slung hips...I don't know what's next, but with baggy/oversized clothes being more and more fashionable and androgynous looks on the rise... maybe there will be no specific body part focus. God I hope it isn't bellies 🙏 (although can't move in the shops for crop tops 😩).

I wear cropped or rolled trousers with tunics, shirts and under dresses.

Thank you. Just asking for a big bummed friend.😊

No fashion for me then! Seriously though, we all have different bodies and have to take our height/weight/curves/shape into consideration.

Squills · 30/06/2022 14:06

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow

I think you’re confusing fashion with style.

Luxa · 30/06/2022 14:06

Thank you Blossom for the suggestion, that's helpful.

Maybe knees are making a come back as per the boots and skirt combo mentioned several times above.

But seriously, a very Instagram-y young woman I know said the other day that men like women with "good necks". So maybe that's where we're heading.
