What now looks dated

As in looks you've worn in recent years that now look wrong or frumpy? (no Mumsnet debate on the word frumpy please!)

I don’t know where you live but July so far hasn’t been very July-like. I went to an outdoor sports event on Saturday and had to get out my big waterproof winter coat. I was in opaque tights yesterday.

Agreed. But can fashion trends be discussed?

Some years ago I lost interest in seeking out new music. I had grown bored of wading through the crap to find the good stuff and I already had a collection I was happy with so I stuck with that. It means my knowledge, tastes and musical references are dated. If someone said that and combined it with a personal or ageist or misogynistic comment then that would be a slur and objectionable. But 'dated' simply refers to the way trends in music have left me behind. It's a fact - one that I regret occasionally because I'm sure I've missed out on some great stuff plus nobody wants me on their PopMaster team. But that's on me. I would never tell people they shouldn't talk about trends in music or express an opinion on any of my favourites because that, I think, would be ridiculous.

I don't know about looking fated, but I've seen several women in boots and thick tights - in July - and one in a parka with fur hood.

I live in North Yorkshire, and I'm wearing a sundress today!

I'm in South Yorkshire and it is very windy cloudy and most definitely not sundress weather here. It has felt very autumnal over the last few days.

BTW I caught up with Roisin Murphy at Galstonbury on iplayer ( also a mum in her 40s) and she was rocking platforms and had the best outfits. Stunning performance and really doing her thing!
