What’s the ‘new’ white trainer

Wtf86 · 20/09/2021 12:21

I’m inexplicably behind on trends! So recently embarked on a trainer finding journey to discover that if I buy white trainers then I am no longer on trend!! So what’s the new white trainer equivalent?

To wear with skinny (yes I know but I can’t do barrel or mom jeans) jeans!

Not sure it's new but I love my
Stan Smith's. Bought them this summer after seeing Matt Hancock's noble estranged wife valiantly out the day everyone saw what everyone saw .. and I thought she looked amazing - good on her .. went out and got the trainers and wear them with everything - never going back to toes showing !

itsharderthanithought89 · 20/09/2021 12:31

Veja!

Very "in" in the right circles and also good for the environment xx

MaizeBlouse · 20/09/2021 12:32

I'd say nike AF1s. Or Stan Smith like a PP mentioned.

MaizeBlouse · 20/09/2021 12:33

Can't get on bored with the giant clunky 90s dad shoes tho

MaizeBlouse · 20/09/2021 12:34

Veja are so expensive though. How come they're good for the environment?

Mayhemmumma · 20/09/2021 12:41

I'm eyeing up air and grace

Annasgirl · 20/09/2021 12:43

Where I live it is Veja - every mum at the school gate. I have worn Stan Smith for 5 years now and I will continue. Also weird that DD (17) only likes Stan Smiths and not Veja so I think perhaps Veja is more a 20 plus age group thing.

I agree Veja are very expensive. Stan Smith are classics and Phoebe Philo has worn them for years, so that is good enough for me (also my feet are wide so I think Veja might be a bit tight on me, while my niece (skinny feet) loves the fit of them).

Rambling post OP, Grin , not sure I've helped you!!!

Anordinarymum · 20/09/2021 12:48

I'm 66 and I love my Nike Air trainers. You can wear them with almost anything

Wtf86 · 20/09/2021 12:54

I have wide feet (fat and short akin to a hobbit shape) have looked at veja - currently eyeing up some Stella M Adidas ones

Or maybe they’re Paul smith.

Another one for Stan Smith’s here, they are not too expensive and even youngest DD (16) admits they are kinda cool.

Zampa · 20/09/2021 13:02

EVERYONE wears Vejas now, to the extent that I won't buy a pair again because they're so ubiquitous.

I'd recommend getting some German Army trainers. Adidas make them as do Novesta and Margiela so there's something available at every price point.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 20/09/2021 13:02

Aren't these all white trainers? Confused I know nothing about fashion really, just like clothes... I'm confused easily by how the new white trainers are white trainers Grin I thought it would be like orange is the new black, rather than black is the new black Grin clearly I'm missing something!

chestnutshell · 20/09/2021 13:10

Think it depends on age/demographic/location?

Vejas are seen as an over 40s thing in my circle and not something we’d be interested in. We all wear Nike AF1s. But then we’re very over skinny jeans too and wouldn’t wear those. Depends what your thing is. You’re not going to look shockingly out of place in Stan smiths or vejas though, or white converse.

dotty81 · 20/09/2021 13:11

If we're talking about trainers definitely not Veja or Superga. So so dull. Go for Vans or Nike. Try a metallic or a small pattern in a predominately neutral colour like pale pink, taupe.

dworky · 20/09/2021 13:20

Is it 'Fashion Victim'?

ExConstance · 20/09/2021 14:17

I'm certainly not intending to join the Veja brigade, I think most people have them just because they are a "must have" brand at the moment despite being rather uncomfortable. I have Stan Smiths which I bought before they became a "thing" and they will just about see the trend out for me as I have looked after them very carefully. I'll be wearing some multi New Balance with socks and a denim midi skirt in the autumn, by next summer surely it will be something else altogether?

Limejuiceandrum · 20/09/2021 14:50

Everyone is wearing Veja and Nike af1
So I wouldn’t say they’re cool at all.

Though I was thinking I need some off white/cream trainers
I saw some at common people, but expensive. JAK are very nice, and actually the neutral is lovely.

MorrisZapp · 20/09/2021 14:58

A shocking revelation I had when trainers became de rigeur is that quite a lot of trainers are actually uncomfy. So don't just go for the style, really try the buggers on.

Woden are a big school gate brand round here. I got a pair of comfy dusky pink Sauconys in Tkmaxx, love them. I like the look of New Balance but I find them uncomfy to walk in.

Nike AF1s are ubiquitous among teenagers where I live.

AnnieSnap · 20/09/2021 15:10

Has anyone here tried Cariuma? They seem a good, ethical brand. They sell vegan and non-vegan. All of their leather is a biproduct of the meat industry. I haven’t bought any yet (spent too much recently), but I like the look of these high tops.

I wanted chunky trainers as I’m not v tall, but wanted them with either gold or silver trims just to jazz them up a bit. So went for these Pumas. I paid £70 a few weeks ago. Gutted they have been reduced!

chestnutshell · 20/09/2021 15:56

Oh flatforms are a thing now too and they look great - some flatform white converse if you want to modernise the white converse look.

slightlysnippy · 20/09/2021 16:27

I bought a pair of Veju to replace a pair of puma's I had for 5 years and they last about 3 months before the side of the sole cracked, so there definitely not worth the £100 or even that comfy.

Stan smith are pretty classic if you just want a decent trainer that won't date.
