What’s the ‘new’ white trainer

Wtf86 · 20/09/2021 12:21

I’m inexplicably behind on trends! So recently embarked on a trainer finding journey to discover that if I buy white trainers then I am no longer on trend!! So what’s the new white trainer equivalent?

To wear with skinny (yes I know but I can’t do barrel or mom jeans) jeans!

I just got some Axel Arigatos.

Blossomtoes · 21/09/2021 11:45

I wear Adidas Sleek, always have and always will unless they stop making them.

gunnersgold · 21/09/2021 11:56

Khaki chunky boots!

MazzleDazzle · 21/09/2021 12:11

It def depends on where you are. Anyone over the age of 30 in AF1s would be laughed at here (I’m exaggerating, slightly, but they are definitely more of a teenage trend).

New Balance seems to be the brand of choice for over 30s.

I bought two pairs of Supergas after hearing about them on MN - I’ve never seen anyone else wear them IRL! In fact, I’ve seen people eyeing them suspiciously in a WTF are those way.

PegasusReturns · 21/09/2021 12:15

@Wtf86

can you come back and confirm whether you wanted white trainer suggestions or whether you wanted to know what was going to be the “in” shoe for A/W? Cos you’re getting a lot of the former and I read it as you being after the latter?

The cool kids all seem to have ditched the white trainers which at now firmly the preserve of the school run mum.

Or who you mix with. No-one I know would judge anyone for the brand of footwear they wear.

And possibly how old you are. None of my friends will see 50 again. They wear stylish clothes but refuse to be dictated to by brands.

Maybe it is more important to the Instagram generation.

To be fair Im not in the UK but Supergas are a firm favourite amongst teens and moms alike here. Dont spread the word! More for me.... I currently have 4 pairs in various colours and am probably on my 5th or 6th white pair because I wear them that often.
FlatteredFool · 21/09/2021 15:11

Too much mud around here for white trainers to be much of a thing among the school mums. I've notice a few Veja wearers and one Air and Grace but I can't say I think they look stylish or cool but then I wear trainers for comfort not style. I did buy a pair of supergras but they aren't very comfy even with memory foam insoles.

MazzleDazzle · 21/09/2021 15:13

Or who you mix with.

@RampantIvy I work in a High School! I’m surrounded by judgemental teenagers everyday. I generally wear what I like and try not to care what they think, but they are scathing.

Wtf86 · 21/09/2021 15:34

@PegasusReturns definitely thinking I just skip the white trainers I am a school run mum but would like to know what I should be wearing in A/W thank you!

This thread is so timely! I was just thinking I need a new pair of comfy trainers or something that will go with most things for nursery drop off etc

I've never found a pair of white trainers I like and I hate the chunky sole trend at the moment

I have just ordered myself a pair of Stan smiths which I didn't even know existed until this thread!

Not interested in what's fashionably necessarily but more, what suits my taste

I shall post a foot in shoe photo when I get them at the end of the week.

Gonnagetgoing · 21/09/2021 16:13

I got these this year from Natura (Spain).

www.naturaselection.com/en/products/womens-white-sneakers

I also got some knock off white Chanel logo white chunky ones (kill me now!) and also Karl Lagerfeld about a year or so ago - the trendy chunky ones when they were trendy and don't think they have the silver detailing.

www.asos.com/karl-lagerfeld/karl-lagerfeld-maison-leather-platform-sole-trainers-in-white-with-silver-black-tab/prd/22023195?affid=15402&_844d6d7d3ac91ec11f4d0c34cc8cd228&channelref=product+search&ppcadref=291867623|1275434110174398|pla-4583314234077071:aud-806298402&gclid=844d6d7d3ac91ec11f4d0c34cc8cd228&gclsrc=3p.ds&msclkid=844d6d7d3ac91ec11f4d0c34cc8cd228

I have no idea what's trendy now but I'm not really a sheep in terms of brands to follow.

Gonnagetgoing · 21/09/2021 16:14

I see loads of Vejas but I just think they're so try hard trendy...

I did see a friend of mine in Adidas Stan Smiths (I think?) with orange detailing on white trainers which looked good but she wore them with an orange t-shirt.

Gonnagetgoing · 21/09/2021 16:15

@ilkleymoorbartat

Vera are so mum
You mean Veja! I totally agree Wink
makkapakka212 · 21/09/2021 16:25

I like the look of the Toms Mallow shoes, not quite a trainer but not a plimsol, i think they will be my next buy

riromay · 21/09/2021 16:29

Adidas Oswego, LOOOOVE!

RampantIvy · 21/09/2021 16:53

I'm not a fan of chunky soles either. DD is, and has some hideous shoes.

Too much mud around here for white trainers to be much of a thing among the school mums.

Same here. You are more likely to see muddy riding boots.

Dragonpox · 21/09/2021 16:57

I've just gone for black trainers. I'm not going into winter with white trianers.

PegasusReturns · 21/09/2021 16:59

@Wtf86

Ah right / so in that case back to chain clogs and mid calf chunky Chelsea boots.

I’m full on mum also but really enjoying the option to move away from trainers

RampantIvy · 21/09/2021 17:25

I have had to google chain clogs. I have never seen anyone wearing any.

MazzleDazzle · 21/09/2021 18:05

Same @RampantIvy. The Supergas are ahead of their time here, never mind chain clogs! I think I’ll pass.

Lovemusic33 · 21/09/2021 18:08

I bought white trainers last week, I just went for the ones that were comfy 🤣, I bought Adidas (similar to Stan smiths). I like the Puma chunky court shoes/trainers but they don’t like me, same with Nike air force1.

Whybirdwhy · 21/09/2021 18:13

I am also looking for trainers - are Adidas Gazelles "in"?

Itsnotdeep · 21/09/2021 18:16

Well all the mums here wear Stan Smiths or Vejas. The teens all wear AF1. I have a pair of dad trainers and vans as well as vejas.

Not sure what the next trend will be - I think wearing white trainers whatever the brand is overdone and if you want to be fashion forward, you need to be wearing something else completely different. I'm not fashion forward, but think coloured trainers, new balance or Nike Blazers look quite nice with jeans. Or boots.

WhoAteMyBiscuit · 21/09/2021 18:20

OP, your feet sound just like mine! I have size 5 wide feet and I love Superga trainers! They fit so well, super comfy and I have actually just bought my 4th pair of plain white ones because they go with EVERYTHING Star
