What’s the ‘new’ white trainer

I’m inexplicably behind on trends! So recently embarked on a trainer finding journey to discover that if I buy white trainers then I am no longer on trend!! So what’s the new white trainer equivalent?

To wear with skinny (yes I know but I can’t do barrel or mom jeans) jeans!
@Blossomtoes cheers 😀 I love your user name!
Thank you. Oh, how it dates me!

@Wtf86

PS I’m of Indian origin and fashion is huge in our culture!
Oh please Hmm What a reductionist statement. I'm also of Indian origin. We are not a monoculture. Some of us like fashion, others prefer art, music, literature, science. Please stop with the nonsense!
postingfortraffichere · 23/09/2021 22:58

I quite like superga at the minute lol

StormcloakNord · 23/09/2021 23:03

Don't know if anyone has mentioned Puma Future Riders.

Comfiest trainers I've ever worn in my life. Like slippers!

jackstini · 23/09/2021 23:12

Over 40 - Vejas
Slight twist & bit younger (& more comfortable IMO) - Victoria
Age 11-16 at senior school - Nike AF1
Want to show you have a bit more money but not that different - Air & Grace
Unexciting but classic - Stan Smiths
Sporty/teen/money to burn - various Nike Air Jordans
Fashion/money to burn - Alexander McQueen

@itsharderthanithought89

Veja!

Very "in" in the right circles and also good for the environment xx

These have been in for about 2-3 years!

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme

creampuff99 how do the Woden shoes come up width wise? I like the look and sound of them!
I have quite narrow feet and they are very comfortable. I wouldn't think they would for feet that are too wide
AnnieSnap · 24/09/2021 00:07

I don’t buy this “over 40s . . .”. I am 62 and wear what I like. Fashion and great style is for anyone. Have a look at CathiRae on Instagram. I think she is in her 70s and she’s fashionable and fabulous!

OhCobblers · 24/09/2021 06:37

I've been wearing Stans for over 20 years!
I also wear air and Grace, D.A.T.E and Zero Cent Cinq 0-105. All hugely comfortable. I think I'm the only person who never got on with Veja.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 24/09/2021 09:27

creampuff99 thanks - I ordered some boots already, so I guess I'm prepared to send them back now! At least returns are free!

I'll get the mizzles from Allbirds if I send the Woden back I think Grin

PegasusReturns · 24/09/2021 09:36

Veja have had their day I think they’ve certainly been replaced by Axel’s in the local boutiques.

@jackstini your assessment is pretty accurate I think although AF1 still firm favourites into late teens.

Why would anyone pay the thick end of £200 for Axels when they’re so ubiquitous? Some brands really see us coming.

Well I did Grin That’s fashion though surely? Something new comes out and replaces the last ubiquitous thing and becomes equally ubiquitous.

Zampa · 24/09/2021 17:35

I bought my first pair in 2018 (thanks to a Mumsnet post!) and it's only this year that I've started seeing them everywhere (because I didn't do anywhere last year!).

I disagree about them being for the over 40s though. I've plenty of younger colleagues (mid/late 20s plus) who wear them.

Sandfairy69 · 25/09/2021 22:00

Gosh, I’ve been living on another planet- never heard of Veja nor Axels, Stanley what’s its! I thought I was pretty stylish and wear mostly ColeHaan because they are so comfortable AND washable but maybe I’m a lone shark ?

I think I meant generic rather than ubiquitous. Axels look like any number of Adidas and Nike trainers that cost less than half. I can completely see the point of spending a lot of money for something unique but that just feels like emperor’s new clothes.
FlatteredFool · 26/09/2021 11:10

Is anyone else paying far more attention to what people have on their feet now? Nike and Asics for the runner mums, the odd veja, one Air and Grace, a couple of balanciaga (the ugliest of the lot), and lots of boots. Oh and one Gucci.

PegasusReturns · 26/09/2021 13:16

@Blossomtoes whilst not unique I do think the embroidery on the axels is beautiful. I get a lot of compliments when I wear them, but don’t very often cos they’re not as comfortable as you’d want them to be.

Which is a pity. I also find the address she’ll toes really uncomfortable.

Ted baker white trainers are lovely and light .

I love the 0-150 trainers. Been looking at them for about 6 months but don't want to have to pay a huge amount to get them here. Is there a UK stockist?

I think a few of us on here haven’t been able to get on with Veja. They’re so uncomfortable.
VitalsStable · 26/09/2021 18:47

Veja proper trainers are really comfy.

nearlywed21 · 26/09/2021 19:30

@TwinsandTrifle

New Balance are the equivalent of the old "Fila".

Just say no Blush

Is Fila not trendy? I was thinking of buying a pair that are chunky and give you height!

If not, what would you wise mnetters recommend? For a 30 year old xx

Not for everyone if you RTFT
