What’s the ‘new’ white trainer

I’m inexplicably behind on trends! So recently embarked on a trainer finding journey to discover that if I buy white trainers then I am no longer on trend!! So what’s the new white trainer equivalent?

To wear with skinny (yes I know but I can’t do barrel or mom jeans) jeans!

Hi OP. I've got very little and very wide duck feet so it takes a while for me to find things that fit, and this is what I've lumped for:

I have some very pretty Vejas in off white and nude tones. That's for smart. They did take some wearing in though, the tongues were very stiff and dug into my ankles.

I have some sandy colour suede puma trainers (and the same in cornflour blue) with oversized ribbon bows, both are really comfy and pretty up outfits when you look a bit dull, for example supermarket shop. They hide marks really well too.

And I have some black Sophia Webster butterfly trainers that are just daft and funky, (but I can just about get away with as more sensible colours than the usual SW neons) and everybody's inner child wants a pair Grin I wear these for going on walks as they're quite bouncy and more of a sporty looking trainer.

Wear what you like OP. Things always look best when you've picked what you love.

I'm eyeing up the Sezanne Jack Trainers they come in a range of neutral colours with normal or ribbon laces.

MummyJ12 · 20/09/2021 16:52

I agree that Veja trainers aren’t comfy.
I’ve no idea how to be cool so sorry I can’t help with suggestions, just don’t buy Veja if you like your feet!!

user89000005 · 20/09/2021 16:55

I know they're too popular now according to mumselt so everyone will say they're uncool, but I love my Vejas. They go with everything and aren't as casual as my Nikes (can't remember what they are, definitely not AF1s I don't like them) I also find them really comfortable. I'm early 30s (and still wear skinny jeans sometimes -gasp-)

I live in a very working class area and have never seen anyone else wear them here! I heard about them via mumsnet.

Limejuiceandrum · 20/09/2021 17:39

Oh I like those Reebok

MilduraS · 20/09/2021 18:18

I quite like my Vejas. It was the ethics that swung it for me. I'd rather pay more if the money is being spread across the supply chain and the manufacturing is done with the environment in mind. I still secretly covet the Stella McCartney Stan Smiths though.

For the pp who asked about the ethics- project.veja-store.com/en/single/transparency/

Lanique · 20/09/2021 18:20

17 year old Dd1 laughs at my Veja collection, they are NOT what the youth are wearing! However she's quite happy to borrow my Nike Airforces and Stan Smiths.

Blinky21 · 20/09/2021 22:55

I wear Air and Grace, I think Vejas are so unoriginal

DietrichandDiMaggio · 20/09/2021 23:52

I love my Stan Smiths and have had a few pairs over the years, but have noticed lately that a lot of them are 'vegan friendly', i.e. manmade not leather, but I want leather and will certainly not pay £70 for plastic trainers.

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach · 21/09/2021 07:42

Op, were you asking for suggestions for white trainers or were you asking what has replaced them in terms of fashion?

Dad trainers were a thing recently. Some of them in rainbow colours. But I think your feet could end up looking huge in them if you wear with skinnies.

I am not into chunky trainers as I have big feet and skinny legs as it is! I do have one pair of chunky silver and white ones though from Puma.

The other ones I see everywhere now are vejas (already mentioned) and new balance in loads of different colours. Sometimes white, but other colours too. I think the "box fresh white trainer" go-to is over for me at least and has been for a while.

Standrewsschool · 21/09/2021 07:47

I quite like Puma Carinas.

Standrewsschool · 21/09/2021 07:48

Apparently the youngsters are wearing chunky heeled shoes for going out, not trainers.

Divebar2021 · 21/09/2021 08:16

I don’t know when S&B got so snotty.

Because Air are so positively unique in thought?

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach · 21/09/2021 08:39

Oh God this is positively tame compared to the olden days Wink

Thank God it's only fashion. I try not to delve into anything more serious on MN for that very reason!

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach · 21/09/2021 08:40

The only difference is that now people do the whole "don't be a fashion victim" thing. Piss off, it's S&B Grin

CraftMaker · 21/09/2021 08:43

OP, I bought my Adidas/Stella Stan Smiths nearly 4 years ago, I wear them practically every day, walk miles, they've been in the washing machine more than once and they still look amazing! And they're vegan.

If I want to look fancy, I wear Air & Grace.

MiddleParking · 21/09/2021 08:55

Fresh white trainers in a classic style - Stans, AF1s etc - are never going to look anything other than great. Apologies to the people who have been convinced otherwise.

😂😂😂

I love you self assuredness! I bet you make anything look great. But I do think "box fresh white trainers" have had their day as a go-to. Not to say they can't look great, but they are not an instant outfit completer as they briefly were a few years ago. Just imho obviously.

RampantIvy · 21/09/2021 09:03

Am I the only one who thinks that most brands of trainers look pretty similar, and isn't influenced by brand, but by colour and fit?

Yogsgirl · 21/09/2021 09:11

Air Jordan hi-tops are the new cool trainers according dd (16)

gofg · 21/09/2021 09:13

No, you're not the only one - some of us are sensible and agree with you.

RampantIvy · 21/09/2021 09:21

I'm just not botheted about looking "cool" at 62 @gofg TBH. That said I don't want to look older than I am.
