I'm done with skinny jeans... what style are you wearing?

I don't know what's happened over lockdown (I suspect it's too much comfy loungewear) but I'm not enjoying wearing skinny jeans any more.

I don't feel particularly comfortable in them, and I just feel like I'm "over" them, I feel a bit dated when I'm wearing them.

What style jeans is everyone wearing now, which are your favourites please?!

@kitchenfairy

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow but they have been around for what, nearly 20 years? And there is no sign of them disappearing.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 24/03/2021 16:49

I don't think skinnies are classic at all. They were nowhere, then they were everywhere, and they are now on their way to looking pretty dated tbh.

But, you don't have to follow fashion. I'll hang on to a pair for under knee boots, as it's my cold and wet weather go to outfit! Knee boots, skinnies and something warm on my top half. No other jeans tuck in to my boots properly, so I'll still wear them tbh and won't go around making sly digs at the op because she correctly said they are falling out of favour with the fashionable. Don't shoot the messenger and all that 🤷‍♀️

They'll pry my skinny jeans from my cold dead legs

lindyloo57 · 24/03/2021 17:21

I like marks lily jeans a relaxed skinnie, I will try the senna, I just brought off ebay a style I wore in 2010 oasis scarlet, they are a slim bootcut I love them, they fit like a skinnie on the waist hips and thighs, and just a small boot cut from knee down. I only paid £5.00 plus pp I brough 3 pairs.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow interesting, but what makes you say that? I would have thought there are only so many ways you can cut a pair of jeans, and I think we agree jeans are not going away? If you see skinny jeans as more basically tight, figure hugging jeans, these have been around since the 70s. Tight, figure hugging jeans will never go away (or if they do it will not be for long), because it looks good, it looks sexy I guess. Do you not agree?

Authenticchicken · 25/03/2021 09:01

I am by no means an authority on style, but I like the M&S Lily jeans.

I recently bought some Boden girlfriend jeans and can't decide if I look nice or like I am on a mid-90s school trip. They'll probably be good with Birkenstocks when it gets warmer though. They are also v comfy.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 09:01

Sexy isn't necessarily fashionable though. If you aspire to sexy, that's a different thing than aspiring to be stylish. You don't have to want to be fashionable. Nobody is going to forcefully remove your 'sexy' skinny jeans from you Smile. But, you can't really argue that they're fashionable because you like them. Sexy... if you say so. Fashionable? No.

mollycoddle77 · 25/03/2021 09:05

No, I am not really buying them myself because I think they are sexy(!), but I guess I am arguing they will always have a universal appeal because they are tight. I agree it is not 'fashion' anymore, but they are still in the shops, they are kind of a basic item now.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 09:06

Jeans won’t go away, but skinny ones will. No trend lasts for ever. Fashion is the industry with the biggest obsolescence. It relies on it to sell stuff.

Everything goes in cycles. And you always get a reaction to a previous trend.

Somethings are mega trends, and they last a long time. This is what skinnies are.

As I’m old, l remember flared being vilified all through the 80’s. But they reappeared about 20 years after the 70’s, and stayed in fashion for about 15 years. Skinnies were unheard of then, everyone wore bootleg/kickflares. And they will be unheard of again.

I think on the trend curve they have passed the top of the curve and are on the decline. I’ve indicated on the photo where l think they are.

Nothing in fashion is static ever. I don’t wear skinnies anymore as l feel wrong in them. And I’m old!!! But my gut reaction ( and l used to do this as a job) is they are past their prime.

Even if they become ‘classic’ they will change. And it’s rare for an extreme style ( which skinnies are) to be a classic.

I don’t know what will replace them though. Flared are back, girlfriend, boyfriend...,,, skinnies were designed to be worn with large oversized tops to balance the silhouette. These are still around but look newer when cropped and work with baggier jeans.

I'm done with skinny jeans... what style are you wearing?
pumpkinpig · 25/03/2021 09:07

I bought a pair of Mint Velvet boyfriend jeans to try and wean myself away from skinnies. I’d say they were more straight than boyfriend. Their straight jeans I did try were more akin to slim fit and did nothing for my tree trunk thighs!!!

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 09:11

Yes, they are still in the shops, as bootcut were five years ago, when they weren't in fashion. You are correct. They will be available to buy. But they are beginning to look dated and unfashionable, as bootcut did for years. Whether you care about that is another matter.

But you took exception earlier in the thread, o the op saying they were dated and made a mean girl joke, about her weight, to get your revenge by the looks of things 🤷‍♀️. But, she was right. They are getting a bit dated and aren't fashionable, as you now agree I think.

But yes, you'll always be able to buy some somewhere. That's true of pretty much any item of clothing these days and any cut of jeans. You just won't see them on the street as much, as lots of people (unlike you) prefer to look current, even if it might Shock prevent them wearing skin tight and therefore, by your reckoning, 'sexy' garments.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 09:13

I didn’t say any ‘mean girl’ things?

I only talked about skinny jeans. And nobody said anything to offend me l don’t think.....

That^^ was to @mollycoddle77.

Interesting post @ArseInTheCoOpWindow. Thanks for that. I do think die hard fans of the old trends, (skinnies; which, I agree are an extreme shape, not classic, like straight cut might be), will find it easier to find their preferred shape now due to online and secondhand shopping.

It was a mean girl joke. She offended your fave 'sexy' jeans, so you told her she needed to lose weight.
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 09:17

I haven’t told anyone to lose weight! You must be muddling me up. I’d never say that!

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 09:17

Ah not you @ArseInTheCoOpWindow!! X posted I think. I meant @mollycoddle77

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 09:18

I could lose plenty myself😭

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 09:18

That response was to molly, not you. I clarified later, but think we x posted.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/03/2021 09:19

😂😂😂😂never mind!

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 09:21

It's because I forgot to tag her or quote her when I responded! Looked as if I was responding to you @ArseInTheCoOpWindow, or anyone really! I'm on my phone, so probably not at my best in terms of communication.

As I said in my clarification post, I found your post very interesting and thank you for your expertise as I know this is your area.

KitchenFairy · 25/03/2021 09:21

It wasn’t @ArseInTheCoOpWindow that made the nasty comment telling me I should lose some weight, it was @mollycoddle77 - and I wouldn’t mind but I stated several times in the thread that I feel dated wearing them, I did not criticise anyone else for wearing them or stare they were going out of fashion, and nowhere in this thread had anyone stated an issue with weight, it wasn’t about that at all.

But there’s always one on every thread, isn’t there.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 09:22

There is @KitchenFairy. It was a mean girl "joke" and she didn't even respond well when you rightly pulled her up on it. There is one on every thread as you say.

mollycoddle77 · 25/03/2021 09:26

Oh goodness chill out, I have already explained it was a joke, no meanness intended. How could I know if someone needs to lose weight?! We will have to see what happens with the skinny jeans, won't we. I don't think it's true they would still be in the shops if they were out of fashion altogether - and don't celebrities still wear them? www.whowhatwear.co.uk/how-celebrities-style-skinny-jeans/slide10.
