I'm done with skinny jeans... what style are you wearing?

I don't know what's happened over lockdown (I suspect it's too much comfy loungewear) but I'm not enjoying wearing skinny jeans any more.

I don't feel particularly comfortable in them, and I just feel like I'm "over" them, I feel a bit dated when I'm wearing them.

What style jeans is everyone wearing now, which are your favourites please?!

@Sooverthemill thank you, I can’t believe how soft and comfy they are. The trainers are Alexander McQueens.

As someone very short of leg (27") and quite dumpy looking, I've never really found the right jeans for me. Used to be boot cut then I tried skinny but (imo) unless your legs and quite long and relatively straight up and down, they just don't suit. I've found Fat Face crop are not too bad on me as they're straight leg rather than skinny and great length for me.
I wear a uniform 5 days a week so not so much of a big deal for me these days as I'm not fashionable or on trend and never have been. In an ideal world, I'd like just enough leg length (I'm barely 5ft but have a longish torso, would prefer the longer legs) to be able to wear dungarees and straight jeans with a bit of a turn up.
My youth was really harder as an indie kid. Think flares with soggy bottoms and torn hems were they dragged on the floor.
Mind you, at 18/19, I was an 8 and could get away with H&M kids which had not long opened up in Preston and was chip as chips!

@KitchenFairy

Hilarious ConfusedHmm
I thought she was spot on, my skinny jeans don’t fit me because I’ve put weight on. I need to lose weight or buy a bigger size. No need to be so offended!

I thought so! Was hoping they might be the M&S look a likes...

There are some really good lookalikes around. There are some in the window of a little boutique shop in my village and I’m dying for them to open so I can go in and have a proper look at them.

Jeggings pull on like leggings

Jeans fasten.

TheRoaringGirl · 02/04/2021 09:30

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow ah is that all! I wondered if it was to do with a more structured arse vs slightly see through nature of jeggings. If it's just that I'm sticking with the jegs!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 02/04/2021 09:31

Jeggings just use thinner material.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 02/04/2021 09:32

But it depends on the jegging. Some have back pockets and a yoke, some don’t.

Disappointing haul from M&S arrived today. I got the black Lily jeans and though length and waist is fine (I got 10L - normally flip between an 8 and 10 in M&S depending on style) the stretch makes them really clingy - not the slim/relaxed fit I was after - they’re basically skinnies with a slightly looser ankle. Also got some slim cropped ones and they’ve got far too much stretch/cling in them too. Both going back. Might try the balloon ones.
I did take a chance on some New Look Mom jeans though, expecting they’d have to go back and they’re actually regally great (and cheap).

Laquila · 03/04/2021 13:34

@Betsy88 is it the Tori ones? I like the look of them but they're hardly ever in stock in anything other than a 6 or 8!

Laquila · 03/04/2021 13:36

@kitchenfairy those Gap ones look great!

@sendmetobarbados I agree that Mom jeans are often a man-repeller, and for that I love them 😀

OysterMonkey · 03/04/2021 13:44

@Betsy88
Maybe try the M&S sienna.
I ordered both the Lily and Sienna, I preferred the Lily as I wanted something just not so clingy at the bottom of the leg.
The Sienna was a much looser overall fit.

Yes the Tori ones! They only had my size in one colour (they call it “bright blue” but it’s more a mid blue). They’re so comfy (but also look good) that I now want them in other colours too, especially black, but all out of stock. I will have to be patient!

I might do, though I hate the hassle of returning stuff so I might give up now! Although just seen they’ve got a new cigarette style that looks good. M&S just seem quite heavy handed with the stretch - I hate that feeling of fabric clinging to you for dear life.

OysterMonkey · 03/04/2021 17:11

What’s the new cigarette style??

Laquila · 03/04/2021 21:51

Has anyone tried the M&S boyfriend ankle grazers? They look very like their mom jeans but actually slightly nicer shape. M&S has gone big on jeans this season - I'm a bit overwhelmed!

Boogiewoody · 04/04/2021 13:12

I have them @laquila I also have the M&S mom jeans but I much prefer the boyfriend ones. The mom ones are poochy over the stomach, not sure if they're too big but I thought they were meant to be loose. The boyfriend ones are much nicer

Laquila · 04/04/2021 15:18

Thank you @Boogiewoody! I was dithering and then happened to search my emails for previous M&S purchase sizing...then it became clear I'd bought two pairs of the Mom jeans months ago and sent them back! I've ordered the boyfriend jeans, the cigarette jeans and some high-waisted skinnies to try.

Boogiewoody · 04/04/2021 16:57

I have 2 pairs of the boyfriend - blue and black - both in my normal size and they fit well, the blue are looser but I often find that with black jeans

Laquila · 05/04/2021 10:57

M&S jeans are here! My review (I am 5ft 7ish, size 12-14)

  • Boyfriend side detail jeans (£39.50)
LOVE these! The side detail is very slightly Gap ca 1995, in a good way. Nice high waist and good amount of fabric around the crotch - i.e. quite smooth-fitting and not pouchy, as @Boogiewoody pointed out. I got a 12L and they are a good length - they hit just slightly above the ankle with the hems turned up.
  • Boyfriend ankle grazers (£39.50) in grey
Very similar to the above, understandably - I wasn't as immediately keen for thy are a great fit (12R) - slightly shorter than the above as expected, but not weirdly cropped. The colour is nice - not too grey and not stonewashed blue.
  • Magic shaping high waisted skinny (£39.50) in medium wash
These are nice high-waisted standard skinny jeans with a good amount of stretch. They're not super tight round the ankle, which I like. 14L is a good length for me (as full-length jeans) but I should have got a 12 - these are fine but I feel like they'll bag slightly.
  • High-waisted cigarette jeans (£29.50) in medium wash
Not too sure about these - they're too long (my fault for getting 14L!) And the distressed patches, although small, look a bit odd...a bit too uniform maybe, on both legs. They have a nice high waist and the fabric is super soft. Also I'm not 100% sure about the raw edge turn-up hems. If I was in M&S I'd have given them a try-on in a 12R but as it is I probably won't bother exchanging them by post.

I'm excited about the boyfriend jeans though! I think I'll sell my old Hush ones on eBay (they seem absurdly low rise now) and keep both pairs of these. Hope this helps someone!

Laquila · 05/04/2021 11:15

Just tried my old Hush and New Look boyfriend jeans on as a reminder and whilst they look great, they're definitely lower-rise so not as comfy AND I can barely move in them compared to the M&S boyfriend ones! The latter seem to have a bit of all-round stretch so it feels like you could feasibly climb over a stile in them (my acid test for any trousers). My old ones look good on, but I can't loll around in the park in them or comfortably sit on the floor with the kids and not worry about overhang/builders' bum.

Boogiewoody · 05/04/2021 11:16

@Laquila good review. I was interested in the cigarette jeans but will wait until I can try on

TheOriginalNutty · 05/04/2021 12:19

I'm slowly making my way through this thread as I am desperate for new jeans but hate buying them.

Currently have 2 pairs of skinnies that won't do up and tbh I don't think they flatter me anyway.

I'm 5'2 inverted triangle shape so about 16/18 on top with a 14/16 ish waist and sliming legs.
Logically I need something bigger on the bottom then to balance the top out but everything always looks crap.

Gonna go through and look at all of the links.

This is a very accurate representation of my shape lol

Notthecarwashagain · 05/04/2021 12:41

I'm the exact same shape, TheOriginalNutty! Grin
Also working my way through the links!
