I'm done with skinny jeans... what style are you wearing?

I don't know what's happened over lockdown (I suspect it's too much comfy loungewear) but I'm not enjoying wearing skinny jeans any more.

I don't feel particularly comfortable in them, and I just feel like I'm "over" them, I feel a bit dated when I'm wearing them.

What style jeans is everyone wearing now, which are your favourites please?!

Barrel leg or balloon leg jeans here (I have pairs from Levi’s and Whistles) or Levi’s 501s.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 23/03/2021 21:38

@Eesha, they stretch a bit I think. I find mine start to fall down a little but then they encounter my enormous hips and don't fall any further throughout the day.

I can't tuck into mine either, but someone more svelte could I think.

LadyCatStark · 23/03/2021 21:44

Mom jeans for me but I’m lucky enough to be the right shape for them. I like to wear them with a tucked in long sleeve top or shirt to enhance my waist.

Smartiesandhugs · 23/03/2021 21:50

I’ve gone back to wearing my girlfriend jeans from joules now the weather is warm enough to have my ankles on show with trainers. Still love skinny jeans tucked into winter boots though. Kind of fancy some flares but I’m sure I’m too old to pull them off this time around

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 23/03/2021 22:04

I've been buying sienna straight for a few years but the black ones seem to fade really quickly. Are the Sophia ones similar in shape? I am size 14 and skinny jeans looks terrible on me as my thighs have always been big, even when I was a 12 before the lockdown stone appeared! ! Looking for straight leg but not too stretchy that they go out of shape after a few wears

IndecentFeminist · 23/03/2021 22:17

I stick to skinnies for winter under boots etc. This time of year I move into relaxed skinnies, sometimes girlfriend jeans. So some balloon leg ones (the m&s ones from above) which I really like. I'm a size 18 so probably look the size of a house but hey ho 😂

RampantIvy · 23/03/2021 22:22

I have the Sophia straight leg jeans, which look mid rise on me. They are much more flattering than my skinnies, which I have now donated to a clothing bank.

Betsy88 · 23/03/2021 22:23

@Sendmetobarbados what’s the sizing like on the M&S balloon jeans? Been trying to gauge it from the reviews but they all seem to contradict each other!

PrincessTuna · 23/03/2021 22:33

Slim ones from Next "enhancing" range.

I'm a pear and look huge in mom jeans. I wear jeggings too but not feeling comfy nowadays.

DrCoconut · 23/03/2021 22:36

I'm really hoping skinny jeans don't become unavailable because they are the most flattering to me. Anything even slightly voluminous adds bulk and I don't have the height to pull it off.

Yellowhighheels · 23/03/2021 22:43

Vintage 501s rolled up. They're really flattering on the bum and hips. I'm thinking of getting some 712s

loosestrife · 23/03/2021 23:20

I do have a nice pair of jeans that's fitted down most of the leg with a tiny kick flare, but that's a tricky cut to pull off. Otherwise I'm with DrCoconut: I'm too short to look good in most other styles.

Eesha · 24/03/2021 03:05

@IllNeverLetGoJack ooo thanks, i might get the Sophia 14 then, but will try short and medium as reviews say they come up long and ill be wearing Converse etc. I always worry about colour fade with M&S jeans. I never have that issue with Topshop Jamies.

Suzi888 · 24/03/2021 03:08

Bootcuts are back, I’ll be wearing those. If anything the skinny jeans are the school drop off jeans of choice! Never liked them.

RayonSunrise · 24/03/2021 06:24

I've just bought a pair of super wide leg jeans (these ones -www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/patch-pocket-wide-leg-jeans/sty-t0746), and they're great. Super flattering! I'm going to wear them with fitted tops tucked in and slightly shorter jumpers.

SnafuButGreyNow · 24/03/2021 07:50

I'm wearing Uniqlo boyfriend jeans, rolled up. They are wide, much wider than I'm used to but I like them. They are also high rise which is flattering and have big back pockets that actually fit a phone.

I do have faithful black skinnies though for tucking into boots / wellies, but I quite like the 'pottery teacher' air that I get from the Uniqlo ones.

Eesha · 24/03/2021 09:03

Those wearing wide leg, do you wear trainers with them or boots? And what sizes are you? Im 14/16 and think they may swamp me.

SummaLuvin · 24/03/2021 09:29

@PurpleDaisies @YanTanTethera123 can you advise what the fit is like on M&S jeans? I am a curvy size 8 - wider hips, a big bum, and small waist. I often get the dreaded excess of fabric around my waist if they fit my bum/hips nicely. Would M&S jeans be any good for someone like me? I've always thought M&S were more for 'boxier' type figures?

drspouse · 24/03/2021 09:32

Girlfriend jeans here - I am thick of calf (I blame cycling - definitely due to my exercise habit, not to my chocolate and gin habit) so never can get skinny jeans on anyway.

mrswilson20 · 24/03/2021 09:33

I totally agree on skinny jeans!! I'm so over them. I'm in lounge wear most often, dresses or mom jeans. I also like high waisted for tummy control.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/03/2021 09:41

The M and S Lily slim are good. Mom/boyfriend make me look huge. These are more like girlfriend. And only 20 quid

RestartTheDay · 24/03/2021 09:44

I only wear black skinnies as they’re versatile and flattering on me.

I’ve never worn blue or coloured skinnies as they don’t do me any favourites. I prefer slim or ‘cigarette’ styles. In the summer I like a straight style cropped and/or rolled up.

I think loose jeans and ‘Mom’ jeans look good on others, but they don’t suit me. I’ve never liked bootcut or flared styles.

requitalissima · 24/03/2021 09:47

OP, you should wear the style that best suits your figure.
It's quite funny how people tie themselves into knots as to what looks 'dated' and then try desperately to be 'on-trend' whilst looking faintly ridiculous - because whatever is currently 'on-trend', is decidedly unflattering on them.

Sendmetobarbados · 24/03/2021 09:57

I'd say it's pretty true to size, if not slightly on the small side. I'm a true size 8, which often translates as a 6 at M&S as they tend to run large. I ordered an 8 as wanted these jeans to be on the baggier side but these are a perfect, slightly snug fit. So perhaps size up if in doubt? Hope that helps!

carolinesbaby · 24/03/2021 09:58

Those wearing mom jeans, what shape are you? As a tall size 16 I go for wide leg high waist styles or straight legs as I never liked skinnies, but I feel like mom styles will make me look enormous.
