I'm done with skinny jeans... what style are you wearing?

I don't know what's happened over lockdown (I suspect it's too much comfy loungewear) but I'm not enjoying wearing skinny jeans any more.

I don't feel particularly comfortable in them, and I just feel like I'm "over" them, I feel a bit dated when I'm wearing them.

What style jeans is everyone wearing now, which are your favourites please?!

@SummaLuvin I’ve got a similar figure to yours-my waist is pretty small in comparison to my hips. They fit me nicely.

Sendmetobarbados · 24/03/2021 10:00

@KitchenFairy

The M&S Sienna jeans have potential, I think I'll order a pair to try.

@Sendmetobarbados I quite like those balloon jeans but I'm only 5ft 2 and fear they'd look ridiculous on me. I think Mom/Mum jeans may be the same.

I'm 5ft 5 1/2 and the balloon jeans only offer a hint of ankle on me, so sadly they may be too long for you if you wanted ankle exposure...
carolinesbaby · 24/03/2021 10:02

Also the 501's - on the Levi's site they all look like they are too short. Are they supposed to end above the ankle?

KnitFastDieWarm · 24/03/2021 10:18

Any recommendations for mom jeans or balloon legs with a generous cut around the thighs and a proportionally small waist? I’m technically the right shape for mom jeans (little waist, big hips) but I have the thighs to match so almost all mom jeans end up looking ‘skinny’ on me Grin. In order for them to fit loosely on my thighs like in the photos, i’d need to buy a size that could fit two of me in at the waist! Does anywhere do a curvy range?

Everlane Curvy Cheeky range. They are AMAZING!! I'm a size 8-10 with curvy thighs, and wear a 27 (I'm often a 26 in other ranges).
KitchenFairy · 24/03/2021 11:07

Thanks for all the recommendations - I've ordered some M&S Sienna and Lily jeans to try. And these ASOS Slim Mom jeans.

I really really like the balloon jeans the more I look at them, but I just know they wouldn't suit me.

I've also ordered some more high waisted comfy knickers. I'm kidding myself with the low rise brazilian style, or thongs, I spend all my time hoiking them up and I no longer like the feel of wearing them. Big knickers all the way!

Yes to big knickers! I got some boyfriend jeans from Sainsburys last year and they are great. Going to dig them out now spring is here. I can't bear the thought of pulling on skinnies ever again.

Ivebeeninlockdowntoolong · 24/03/2021 11:43

Oh gosh, I have many pairs of jeans for all sorts of fits! I love them all:
Skinny jeans to tuck into fantastic boots;
Levi's vintage 529s for flattering legs;
Wide leg Zara (very comfortable);
Boden retro 1970s look jeans;
Biker jeans with lots of seam detail and flattering front zipped pockets.

Eesha · 24/03/2021 11:55

2 M&S Sophia jeans purchased to try out! I really fancy a wide leg but can't see them being flattering on me

RayonSunrise · 24/03/2021 12:00

@Eesha

Those wearing wide leg, do you wear trainers with them or boots? And what sizes are you? Im 14/16 and think they may swamp me.
Depends - the dark wash Boden jeans I linked to look great with some pointed-toe white ankle boots I got a couple of years ago, but I've also bought some pale yellow, square-toed ballet flats that are working as well. And tan clog sandals are great with them - very 70s.

Suspect a smart pair of Converse (maybe not my grubby ancient pair) or white trainers would look good, too.

I've resorted to buying jeans that fit round my bum, then getting the waist taken in (it's not expensive). My waist gap isn't too huge, but it's enough that the alteration takes my jeans from a good fit to a great fit.
EmmaStone · 24/03/2021 12:17

Jeans are my nemesis. For quite a few years I've been wearing Paige Hoxton in various cuts and colours, bought in outlet malls in the US. Well, lockdown has put paid to my jeans purchases being replenished!

I've got a pair of 501s and Ribcage jeans from Levis. I like the leg and bum cuts, but I think I must have quite a long crotch, and I find sitting in the Levis all day get really uncomfortable in the crotch area. It's not something I can really test in a nomral trying on session!!

I've resorted to buying some Paige on sale in the US and paying as much in customs and duties to get them over - still cheaper than buying them here.

NewMumma1819 · 24/03/2021 12:27

I have just bought my very first pair of mom jeans and I have to say I really like them. I got the 'Tori' ones from New Look. My son has pulled all the loose threads around the knee but other than that they're great!

LibertyMole · 24/03/2021 12:58

I am back in flares, as is 20 year old DD. I also have wide leg. I still think cigarette pants are nice for work.

I have millennial friends who are still in skinnies.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 24/03/2021 13:00

I think I tried those on @NewMumma1819! I love them. Didn't suit me sadly, so they had to go back, but they're really nice.

Mine were the non distressed 'kind' range ones I think.

requitalissima · 24/03/2021 13:51

Nobody, not even Kate Moss, looks good in real skinnies. They are truly unflattering garment and it's astonishing how the women have succumbed to their dastardly lure everywhere.
Now slim-cut jeans flatter most shapes, the only real difference between skinny and slim are the last 4 inches of the trouser-leg, as in skinny, they cling, desperately, to limb, whilst slim 'separates' from said limb slightly, thus creates a shapely ankle even on ones' who don't possess such things.

Ugly skinnies

Flattering slim cut

requitalissima · 24/03/2021 13:55

'Mum' jeans are hideous, the teenagers who sport them, paired with cropped sweatshirts and high ponytails, will come to rue the days they sported such outfits.
Anyone else, well, your call...

[My crystal ball says so]

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/03/2021 15:28

I’m 57 l quite like mum jeans!

mollycoddle77 · 24/03/2021 15:51

Skinny jeans work for me and I don't understand why you think they are not comfortable as long as they are stretch material? Maybe you need to lose weight or go a size up Grin. I just think skinny is a classic shape now, it's not going to go completely out of fashion. But it's clearly not edgy or the latest look anymore - get your cropped, frayed bootcut jeans for that! I also think wide leg is a classic shape and arguably the most comfortable. So if they are around again, get those!

@mollycoddle77 what a nasty comment. I’m a size 8, I have no weight to lose. And if I sized up they wouldn’t be skinny jeans would they.

mollycoddle77 · 24/03/2021 16:33

Ok sorry, I meant it as a joke, I have obviously no idea whether you need to lose weight or not! Just being funny.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/03/2021 16:36

I don’t think skinny is a classic shape and it will go out of fashion.

Bootlegs disappeared for quite a while but have resurfaced.

Skinnies are a megatrend and these last for a long time.

I’m not too bothered about whether they’re in or out of fashion, as I said in my OP I think I feel a bit dated in them - probably because I’ve been wearing them for so long.

I’ll update when my orders arrive. I also like the New Look ones linked to above but I’ve spent enough for now!
