I'm done with skinny jeans... what style are you wearing?

I don't know what's happened over lockdown (I suspect it's too much comfy loungewear) but I'm not enjoying wearing skinny jeans any more.

I don't feel particularly comfortable in them, and I just feel like I'm "over" them, I feel a bit dated when I'm wearing them.

What style jeans is everyone wearing now, which are your favourites please?!

@Notthecarwashagain 😁 it's an erm unusual shape to be isn't it.

Think I might order some of the M&S ones to try

Notthecarwashagain · 05/04/2021 14:12

It is! Very hard to dress without looking humpty dumpty- or Gru!
Hope the M&S ones are good- will be loitering to find out!

janeyfreef · 05/04/2021 14:33

I love these Levi Balloon leg jeans much prefer them there comfy but don't make me look massive like mom jeans do.

Boogiewoody · 05/04/2021 18:22

Has anyone tried the M&S balloon leg jeans?

Laquila · 06/04/2021 09:07

I haven't @Boogiewoody, but I have a nice pair of Gap sky-high-waist Mom jeans that are more of a balloon shape and really comfy. The sizing is bananas on them though - I'm a 12-14 and I think I had to buy a UK18 😳

I also have a Gap shipment en route (can't even remember what styles I ordered) so will report back on those too.

Wandamakestoast · 06/04/2021 14:23

I’ve got M&S boyfriend ankle grazers which are really comfy.

I used to love my skinnies but now when I put them on I feel so uncomfortable! I constantly seem to be hitching them up as they don’t seem to stay in place, no idea why. The M&S boyfriend ones I don’t even need to wear a belt with.

are they similar (Balloon leg jeans) to the Barrel leg jeans that Whistles do as a similar barrel leg (not Whistles) come up when I put balloon leg in Google?
CleverCatty · 06/04/2021 15:03

if I hadn't replied before - it's been high waisted jeans - but got some Top Shop ages ago in their event - and bought too big - they're ok.

Then got 2 pairs of Zara's high waisted but not overly pleased regardless with the fit so both going back and also the colour - all the jeans I've had were black.

I got some mom jeans with ripped hems from Top Shop sale - in a grey colour - they're nice - but the ripped hems I'm not sure I'd buy now and as got no stretch you definitely tell if you gain weight! Grin

FreeButtonBee · 06/04/2021 21:49

Got the M&S balloon leg in grey and actually love them! I am a curvy shirt arse but the 12S is a nice fit with a bit of ankle. They taper in more than the Levi ones that someone linked to which works better when you are a shorty. Am going to order in pale denim too.

But the boyfriend and Siena ones weee horrible on me. Just not hitting me in the right spots.

But thanks for starting the thread as I NEVER would have tried this style otherwise.

Now to buy a whole new wardrobe of tops to go with...

Dreamponytail · 06/04/2021 23:08

The model I know has been wearing skinny bootcut/flare everything recently. Leggings, jeans etc.

Laquila · 07/04/2021 08:30

I just got my Gap delivery yesterday, and the remaining pair of M&s jeans.

The Gap cigarette ones aren't quite right - nice soft denim but slightly too small for me (I got 14R and they sent 30" waist...I was expecting 32"). They're slimmer in the leg than the M&S cigarette ones, also shorter and with no turn-ups.

The other M&S pair I was waiting for turned out to be Per Una - they're the Tencel high-waisted skinny jeans (£35) in washed black. They actually say ankle grazers on the label which is weird as they're insanely long! Admittedly I got a 14L but they're longer than most long full-length jeans! They're a shade too big and there's too much material in them, if that makes sense, so going back.

Tsmummy08 · 07/04/2021 08:48

@Boogiewoody Yes! If you check the thread I think a few of us have tried them... they work really well for me (short, petite but bigger bum/thighs), much more flattering than "mom" jeans. I got them in a couple of colours - might even go for ecru if they bring that back...

Might be worth a try? I was a bit sceptical...

Boogiewoody · 07/04/2021 08:56

Thanks! I was going to get them but already have a pair of wide leg cropped jeans so didn't want too similar. Might order them to try (DH says I have too many jeans)

@Dreamponytail I bought 2 pairs of bootcut vintage Levis from Ebay that I'm loving. They're so flattering! I had forgotten just how much.

Roarian · 08/04/2021 07:11

I like skinnies and bought some Ivy jeans off the back of this thread - but they're too stretchy and look like jeggings. I'd like some high waisted jeans that are comfy but make my bottom look nice instead of showing off my vpl!

Laquila · 08/04/2021 08:10

@Roarian you might want to try the M&S magic shaping skinny jeans - I liked them but they were a shade too big for me (I'm 12-14 and I got the 14). They were definitely jeans rather than leggings.

Roarian · 08/04/2021 08:14

@Laquila thank you, I'm replacing the Ivys so I'll try those

Kitkatty · 08/04/2021 12:36

I just bought a few pairs of the M&S Boyfriend jeans - two different sizes in the light blue, and one in the dark blue. They're all supposed to be the same length, 'regular', but one pair is a good 1.5-2 inches shorter Confused

Of course that's the size and colour (but not length) that I prefer, so I've got to return the lot and reorder the one I want and hope it comes in the right length...

Gwenhwyfar · 08/04/2021 13:14

".,,, skinnies were designed to be worn with large oversized tops to balance the silhouette"

Yes, I realised the other day that most of my nice tops look silly because they look to baggy now because they were bought when everyone wore skinny jeans. I've got rid of most of my more fitted tops from before skinnies.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/04/2021 13:36

"You just won't see them on the street as much, as lots of people (unlike you) prefer to look current"

Looking 'current' means different things to different people though. Some people get used to new fashions quickly, others take their time. When skinny jeans were first out, I thought they looked awful, and only appropriate for really skinny people. Then I got used to them and they now look normal to me. They still look fashionable to me, no matter how many people tell me they're not.
I think I'll only see them as dated when another clear style has taken their place.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/04/2021 13:51

"then I tried skinny but (imo) unless your legs and quite long and relatively straight up and down, they just don't suit."

I think my legs are even shorter than yours and skinnies are the only ones I don't have to have taken up so I love them for that.

Quincy69 · 08/04/2021 19:54

Crop tops for me... don't think anyone wants to see my beer belly Grin
