Canada Goose - too hot for London?

londonmummy1234 · 04/02/2021 22:01

I brought myself a Canada Goose Mystique Parka... it was pricey at £1100 but apparently lasts forever blah blah.
It arrived today and it feels really hot and heavy to wear but all the other mums in London seem to be wearing CG?!
What's people's experiences with it and if too hot can they offer an alternative?
Looking for a long coat and padded! Thanks

I'd be more concerned about the animal welfare/real fur use if I was you. Do you know how they treat the animals to get that fur?

Clymene · 04/02/2021 22:03

All the other London mums? 0/10

RudeAF · 04/02/2021 22:04

I am often baffled by the things I see people wearing in winter. I find I am constantly hot just in a jumper and smart wool coat when I’m trekking about on the tube and in and out of roasting hot buildings. London is so mild and damp bar a couple of days a year I would expire in a Canada Goose!

halfgirlhalfturnip · 04/02/2021 22:05

Too cruel

OverByYer · 04/02/2021 22:05

It’s only drug dealers who wear CG coats where I live

Highfalutinlootin · 04/02/2021 22:05

Prepare to be roasted metaphorically in addition to apparently physically. Mumsnet hates Canada Goose presumably because they dare to be too expensive.

lyingwanker · 04/02/2021 22:09

I'm in Yorkshire and I would love a CG coat (or similar). It depends how often you're out in the cold weather for though? Are you on and off public transport a lot or are you stood around outside a lot? It would be an ideal type of coat for me as I hate being cold, don't get flustered being toasty warm and would wear it for the school, nursery and shopping trips. I don't walk far (unless it's purposely for exercise) and I never use public transport so no getting too hot jumping on and off tubes/buses

N4ish · 04/02/2021 22:13

I would be more concerned about receiving abuse from people who find Canada Goose clothing cruel. Have seen stickers on the tube highlighting animal cruelty issues around this brand so not everyone in London is a fan!

Have to say no London mum I know would ever wear one.

londonmummy1234 · 04/02/2021 22:13

Every other mum in the park (no drug dealers Grin) in SW London where I am seems to be wearing one.
I wanted to buy something I would wear for a very long time and not repeat but every other year.
I mainly spend my days hanging about in wet damp playgrounds but maybe it just is TOO hot for London.
Any other suggestions?! I want to look nice too!

I like Uniqlo down coats and jackets. Very lightweight but warm. Not particularly glamorous though

BringMeTea · 04/02/2021 22:17

Yeah they've gone the way of Burberry and Moncler jackets... to be avoided. To answer your question, massively too hot for the UK.

Dizzy1234 · 04/02/2021 22:18

Do some research on them, horrendous cruelty to geese and coyotes, I wouldn't have one

empod · 04/02/2021 22:19

Definitely, a no!!

jendifer · 04/02/2021 22:20

I’ve got a wool coat from Boden which i always get complimented on. Maybe something like that. I couldn’t buy a CG one I’m afraid.

Jen435 · 04/02/2021 22:22

I bought a long puffer from hunter. Prior to that had a carhartt parka which lasted me 10 years. Both under £200.

Chemenger · 04/02/2021 22:22

When I lived in Boston a lot of people wore them. The temperature was usually well below zero, with biting winds, in winter. The cold was way beyond anything we have in the UK. I can’t imagine needing one here in Scotland at all, never mind London. I wouldn’t buy one because you’re paying a premium to be despised by a lot of people for animal rights reasons.

StrayGoose · 04/02/2021 22:25

NC

Canadian transplant here and yes its too hot for over here, but that's not why I wouldn't be caught dead in one: the industry is as cruel as f#ck. Envy

StrayGoose · 04/02/2021 22:26

it's

Can we PLEASE have an edit button someday soon??

Brieminewine · 04/02/2021 22:29

@OverByYer

It’s only drug dealers who wear CG coats where I live
Oh fuck, best return my ID badge to the hospital then! I wear my CG because it’s cosy and I’m freezing when I get up at 5am for work!
LadyWithLapdog · 04/02/2021 22:29

Please don’t support animal cruelty. There are better options.

londonmummy1234 · 04/02/2021 22:29

Okay so it seems there is some animal welfare issues going on as well. I am not happy with that.
I did do research and it seemed the fur was from humane sources. I actually did quite a bit of reading and it all seemed good. But there seems to be a lot against it on here so perhaps there are other things going on.
Also I think I will boil! I like the look of it but once lockdown is over and I'm in and out shops I think I'll be too hot.
Maybe a cheaper one... I just wanted to treat myself to a special coat for once and I can't even find one! Grin

Real fur and down, horrendous. Do some research on animal welfare.

Frequentflier · 04/02/2021 22:31

I thought I had misread that price but I had not.😳 Second Uniqlo.

hobbyiscodefordogging · 04/02/2021 22:31

@Highfalutinlootin no, MN is not anti Canada Goose because they're expensive 🙄

Absolutely no way I'd have one, nor would any London (or other!) mum I know, or just any decent person really...

Why do you want one just because you think everyone else has one? That's quite odd.
