Canada Goose - too hot for London?

londonmummy1234 · 04/02/2021 22:01

I brought myself a Canada Goose Mystique Parka... it was pricey at £1100 but apparently lasts forever blah blah.
It arrived today and it feels really hot and heavy to wear but all the other mums in London seem to be wearing CG?!
What's people's experiences with it and if too hot can they offer an alternative?
Looking for a long coat and padded! Thanks

Dry robes?
I take it that's a joke? Confused
I prefer Woolrich as they are more discreet looking but they ship from the EU and there have been delays and issues etc.
Uniqlo is good but I already have one and it just looks worn out now. I want something that will last and look nice but be practical.

It’s not a brand I would want to be associated with I thought they were popular a few years ago until the animal cruelty came to light

Oblomov21 · 05/02/2021 08:26

Dh bought one recently. It's not that heavy. It's perfect. For standing out in the cold for hours watching Ds2 play football.
Not so sure for a quick school run in London.

CoronaIsWatching · 05/02/2021 08:27

SW London - somewhere between Chelsea, Putney and Hammersmith

I don't know why you can't just say you live in Fulham

LoveFromDeauville · 05/02/2021 08:30

They used to be very popular over here but we get extremely chilly winters. I can’t imagine needing one in London. Not my style, too brash and crazy money for what is essentially a padded coat.

londonmummy1234 · 05/02/2021 08:34

Sod it. I'm sending them both back. Brought two different sizes.
Too heavy and too controversial it seems.

Superdry has good choices for everyday coats.

I wouldn't touch CG with a barge pole. The animal welfare issues rule it out for me but in the fashion stakes I think of it as a naff brand - like what the people in towie would wear

londonmummy1234 · 05/02/2021 08:36

I really want to splash out on a nice coat but just can't find one!

If you're concerned aboutvthe ethics and still fancy down, I possibly remember seeing recycled down somewhere? Patagonia (not really a fashion brand though?)

albird · 05/02/2021 08:45

Didriksons do lovely coats and dont use animal products at all - you can shop around for good deals.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/02/2021 08:49

In my part of London a CG coat means you’re a proper wrong un Grin

nevernotstruggling · 05/02/2021 08:52

Super dry are shite sorry.

Op I see what you mean about not wanting to constantly replace.

Meanwhile I'm still laughing at all the dry robes in london!!! That's hilarious!! People have them here in Plymouth - on the beach after swimming or paddle boarding. I e never seen one warn in a shop or in town.

That's honestly made me day laughing!!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 05/02/2021 08:54

It’s not really the right time to be buying a winter coat which is probably why there’s not much choice.
I bought one from Rains which is synthetic filled, knee length, waterproof and wind proof. It’s warm but not too warm. It was only £375. I had to order from Europe but luckily I did it on the 31st December 😆
I live in footballer country Surrey and don’t see many CG coats at all.

PawPawNoodle · 05/02/2021 09:02

www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/prada/convertible-belted-quilted-shell-down-jacket/1277414 if you want to burn money on a down coat this is much nicer.

CommanderBurnham · 05/02/2021 09:14

Honestly OP I'm the same. I ended up with a North Face Arctic. Luckily I fit into kids sizes so itwas way cheaper in the sale.

Basically for those coats should and are technical wear. So just buy yourself something practical and warm and get something stylish for the rest of the days. In London, temps rarely go under 0 so you don't really need anything too pricey. When I lived there it was a case of an extra layer and some flat boots and carry on wearing what you normally wear.

I was thinking the same thing! 🙄
chestnutshell · 05/02/2021 09:18

I have a fur-less CD and I wear it for late evening dog-walking. I think you’ll be warm in London. I’m in the North. I’m a complete luxury coat junkie. I have tonnes but do try and steer away from down now (I’ve never bought fur). I’ve had CDs, monclers etc. I’ve also had more mid-range brands like North Face.

If you’re interested in ethical brands after this thread, this is my favourite. Not just favourite ethical brand but one of my fave brands full stop.

I am constantly baffled when I see people wearing Canada Goose in London - it simply is never cold enough and I giggle at the thought of them roasting in an effort to look stylish.

Have you heard of the puffa wars ?

www.thestrategist.co.uk/article/orolay-amazon-coat.html

For the record I wear Uniqlo it’s excellent

TheVanguardSix · 05/02/2021 09:48

Good choice, sending it back, OP.
They're waaay too hot for London. Also, the only people I see wearing them are mums who go straight from house to Land Rover Discovery car. It's such a statement coat, it's ridiculous. Get a decent Seasalt coat or Land's End down coat (they're excellent- I've had a Land's End down maxi coat for 4 years and it's stood the test of time- plus it's about £1000 cheaper than a CG one Grin).

Ldnmum7 · 05/02/2021 09:56

Good idea to send back, definitely too hot!
Have a look at Arket

Outwithreason · 05/02/2021 10:03

There was a good thread posted before Christmas about the most stylish Parka if you can find it?

DoodleLovin · 05/02/2021 10:06

Didn’t read the whole thread OP but I got a CG for Xmas and live in Ireland- I wear it with just a t-shirt underneath and it’s perfect!

minipie · 05/02/2021 10:12

Also, the only people I see wearing them are mums who go straight from house to Land Rover Discovery car

So true - there is 100% crossover between CG and expensive 4x4 Grin

Belinda554 · 05/02/2021 10:18

I’m not sure when we stopped throwing paint on people that wear fur, but it needs bringing back.

stealthbanana · 05/02/2021 10:31

@londonmummy1234 if you like woolrich they have a shop in soho that weirdly is not connected to the online shop. You could call them and see if they do click & collect?
