Canada Goose - too hot for London?

londonmummy1234 · 04/02/2021 22:01

I brought myself a Canada Goose Mystique Parka... it was pricey at £1100 but apparently lasts forever blah blah.
It arrived today and it feels really hot and heavy to wear but all the other mums in London seem to be wearing CG?!
What's people's experiences with it and if too hot can they offer an alternative?
Looking for a long coat and padded! Thanks

Fur from humane sources 😂 the irony

LadyWithLapdog · 04/02/2021 22:33

@londonmummy1234 thanks for being open to re-consider your choice.

Bubbletiers · 04/02/2021 22:35

If you want a London mummy look then I suggest following- chloelovestoshop on Instagram. A London “mum” who had brilliant fashion, she links all her items and not a Canada goose in site.

I “borrowed” one once to nip to the shops, sweltering mess. Good if you were perhaps sat on the sidelines in 3 degrees watching football.

I wouldn’t want it for the status. But I also know what you mean by “wanting to treat yourself but not knowing what to get”.

I’m more of a Barbour girl! Even in West London.

asylumn · 04/02/2021 22:41

Where in SW London are you OP? SW11 here and I've seen a few CG but not enough for me to feel like I have fashion fomo. What about a Moncler? Or for the slightly milder weather we're heading in to a Jane & Tash long parka?

nevernotstruggling · 04/02/2021 22:43

CG is 100% drug dealer down here in Devon too. That's hilarious that they are a thing in london.

I get the appeal of a luxury coat don't get me wrong but for that £ you could buy something really stylish and amazing. Those CG coats are none of those things.

PattyPan · 04/02/2021 22:50

@londonmummy1234

Okay so it seems there is some animal welfare issues going on as well. I am not happy with that. I did do research and it seemed the fur was from humane sources. I actually did quite a bit of reading and it all seemed good. But there seems to be a lot against it on here so perhaps there are other things going on. Also I think I will boil! I like the look of it but once lockdown is over and I'm in and out shops I think I'll be too hot. Maybe a cheaper one... I just wanted to treat myself to a special coat for once and I can't even find one! Grin
Do you honestly think there is any way to describe fur as humane? Confused
Goldieloxx · 04/02/2021 22:53

Disgusting, would never buy from CG

mootymoo · 04/02/2021 22:54

I wouldn't touch it as it contains fur, end of. Wool is quite sufficient for English cities, waterproof jackets actually make the most sense (mines berghaus) but I know not everyone wants casual

londonmummy1234 · 04/02/2021 22:59

SW London - somewhere between Chelsea, Putney and Hammersmith..

Obviously I meant humane in the sense that it's done as quickly as possible and not dragged out or the animal is left in pain etc.

I don't want it because every mum seems to have it, it was worded in that was because I was asking they are popular and why is that? Also people seem to be wearing them but why are they not tomato faced?!

Virtue signal received, over.

Meanwhile, nearly everyone will go on owning down coats from other brands, down comforters etc. Most down comes from the same suppliers and most have the same issues. People just latched on to Canada Goose because for a while they were one of the most expensive and visible favorites of the middle class, so an easy target for class hatred. I'm sure everyone who could never bring themselves to wear CG is a lifestyle began with totally coherent ethical brand choices. Hmm

Apileofballyhoo · 04/02/2021 23:02

If people are worried about ethics I don't think Uniqlo are the best choice.

MarshaBradyo · 04/02/2021 23:03

Too hot and why follow everyone else

MarshaBradyo · 04/02/2021 23:03

That you see

I can’t say I’ve noticed it but not SW

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/02/2021 23:05

Dealer coat here too. Or spoilt teenage boys who need a
More expensive coat than the next.

Anything with fur should be a no no OP

londonmummy1234 · 04/02/2021 23:09

@Highfalutinlootin does have a point about the down..

OP posts:
hobbyiscodefordogging · 04/02/2021 23:12

Yep. I personally do not have any down. But I know people who will object to CG but insist on goose down duvets Hmm I guess their issue is more with the fur 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fur is a definite 'no' for me. Down is easy to avoid, so I do.

PBJelly · 04/02/2021 23:13

Plenty of warm non-down coats. I don’t wear down - have a look at companies like Parka London or Save The Duck.

Catlover77 · 04/02/2021 23:13

@hobbyiscodefordogging

Fur from humane sources 😂 the irony
This!
LadyWithLapdog · 04/02/2021 23:14

You can avoid down too. Also wool, silk, cashmere, leather. Once you look into it you realise you can live without all these. Then many pricey brands will become totally irrelevant.

fairynick · 04/02/2021 23:17

Bet 90% of the people commenting about animal rights definitely eat meat. Bore off. I say that as a vegan.

BruisedPear · 04/02/2021 23:20

I love my CG coats they have non down ones that are light weight and hold up well. They really do keep out the cold even in the middle of winter in london. I find they're all I need with a t shirt.
Moncler is the other luxury brand. They do nice puffer coats that aren’t too hot but they run a bit small and I don’t think they hold up as well for the price.
Good luck finding a coat!

LadyWithLapdog · 04/02/2021 23:20

@fairynick don’t be so negative. I think we should allow people to take whatever steps they feel able to in order to reduce animal cruelty. It doesn’t have to be 100%. Maybe for the OP this is changing one type of coat for another.

StealthRoast · 04/02/2021 23:20

Oh god these are a few years out of being popular where we live. My son is now 17 and a couple of Christmas’s ago his dad ( who has more money than sense ) bought him one without asking him first.

Ds wore it a few times and hated it. I was doing his room before Christmas and found it and donated it to the charity shop. Someone will be glad of it.

Parajumpers seem to be more on trend with the CG type but I’ve no idea what materials they use.
Also, the fake CG coats were absolutely everywhere and put a lot of people off.

AgeLikeWine · 04/02/2021 23:22

Is that a typo, OP, or did you really pay £1100 for a coat? Shock

I bought my current winter coat from Mountain Warehouse. It keeps me nicely warm & dry in the U.K. climate, which is what I require of it, it looks good as new after 4 years wear and it cost me £49.

1990s · 04/02/2021 23:24

@Highfalutinlootin

Prepare to be roasted metaphorically in addition to apparently physically. Mumsnet hates Canada Goose presumably because they dare to be too expensive.
They pluck the feathers for these out of the geese while they are alive. Look it up.

OP, in my area of SW London no Mums are seen dead in Canada Goose for this reason, if that’s what you care about...
