Is this ring awful?

Apologies for the grotty hands. I’ve just inherited a great haul of jewellery. It’s all the most blingy 80’s stuff you could imagine - proper Del Boy style gold chains etc. and I was planning on pawning the lot and hopefully using the money for a holiday.

Anyway, I’ve sort of fallen in love with this ring. It’s ruby and gold so probably not worth much at all. My sister has been absolutely ripping the piss out of me for wearing it though Sad. She thinks it looks like something you’d get in a cracker and that the only reason I could be so attracted to it is because it’s haunted and I’m going to get possessed by the spirit of my dead relative and go on a murder spree.

Is it terrible? I never really wear jewellery at all but for some reason I suddenly want to wear a massive 80’s ruby ring. I’m fairly certain it’s not cursed but even if it was that kind of adds to the appeal.

Onceuponatimethen · 01/11/2020 20:56

I like it!

hairypaws · 01/11/2020 20:57

I think it's lovely and quite unusual compared to what styles are around.

Jomalaldi · 01/11/2020 20:58

Omg I absolutely love it!! Please keep it (or sell it to me) Grin

Wolfiefan · 01/11/2020 20:58

Love it!
Tell her if you do go on a spree then she’s first in line.
(And what kind of posh crackers does she get at Christmas? The best we get here is plastic hopping frogs!) Grin

dudsville · 01/11/2020 20:58

It's wonderful!

MolyHolyGuacamole · 01/11/2020 20:59

Absolutely love it

Bluewavescrashing · 01/11/2020 20:59

I love it too! It suits you, please wear it and tell your sister to jog on.

JaceLancs · 01/11/2020 21:00

Looks more like a garnet to me
However it’s quite plain and classic so why not wear it if you like it

Melonportal · 01/11/2020 21:00

I really like it

beautyboxaddict · 01/11/2020 21:01

I don’t like gold or red jewellery and I still love it! It’s beautiful and unusual and you must keep it

starfishmummy · 01/11/2020 21:02

it's nice. Although I suspect garnet rather than ruby.

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 01/11/2020 21:02

I love that!

FeckArseDrinkGirls · 01/11/2020 21:02

I knew I was right! I’ve only just got divorced and the only jewellery I’ve ever worn has been my wedding ring so I’m going to wear the cursed ring in it’s place. I’m feeling very pleased I’m not only having my good taste validated but wearing a ring on my ring finger that I chose just for me from a selection given to me by a dead woman .

If it's hallmarked gold then that's not likely to be a ruby (very expensive at that size) but a nice garnet. That's only a guess.

I love it. It's vintage and as an Etsy seller of vintage I can tell you that it's very fashionable.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 01/11/2020 21:02

It's lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2020 21:03

That ring is utterly fabulous! I love it.

DorothyCotton · 01/11/2020 21:03

I rather like it too, if you like wear it and enjoy it!
(I don't want to pee on your bonfire but the stone looks rather like a Garnet, I have a similar 70's number inherited from my gran)

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 01/11/2020 21:03

I love it! It really suits you. Keep wearing it and go haunt your sister Grin

Gustavo1 · 01/11/2020 21:04

I think it’s beautiful

excelledyourself · 01/11/2020 21:04

I had one exactly like this only smaller, in the 90's when I was twelve! It was a Christmas present. I was disappointed with it as it wasn't the moodstone ring I had desperately wanted from the Argos catalogue Grin But my dad said they got me this as it was better quality from a proper jewellers. I certainly didn't hate it, just wanted the other one more.

Anyway, if you like it, that's truly all that matters!

FeckArseDrinkGirls · 01/11/2020 21:05

I think you’re all right, it is a garnet having done a quick google search. There was a list of insured jewellery and there was a ruby and gold ring mentioned so I assumed it was that. Obviously not worth enough to be insured but it’s still lush in my eyes.

It's lovely , I'm watching a very similar silver one on ebay right now.

excelledyourself · 01/11/2020 21:05

Agree about it being garnet though.

Egghead68 · 01/11/2020 21:05

I like it. More importantly you like it!
