Is this dress too short for 39!?

I got this dress from whistles which I love until DH said it was a touch too short. I'm 39 years old and don't want to look mutton!

What do you think?

Its pretty short. I wouldn't wear it based on that alone but not to do with age, just because I don't think its very sophisticated as a look.

Guess it depends what you would be wearing it for though

Far too short. Mutton dressed as lamb. At your age you should be wearing tweed knee length skirts with a nice purple or green twinset, with a nice low blocked heel.

If you sit down/ bend over, does it cover your bum?

Is it shorter than your finger tips if you let your arms dangle by your side?

I am even older than you but love a mini and those are my rules for determining if it is too short!

I wouldn't cos I don't have great legs and I'm incredibly clumsy so I'd be forever flashing by accident.

You look lovely. I would wear a skirt that short and I'm quite a bit older! I don't like the term mutton or the idea of being to old for something. If you like it and it suits you, wear it. I think the opaque tights and not too high heels balance the shorter skirt out nicely.

You have the figures for it. Age is just a number, your figure is the aesthetic.

I think a less pointy heal would de accentuate the mini aspect a bit though.

It is quite short yes, but choosing to wear it isn't about age. It's about personal style. My daughter is 22 she says she'd not wear it as she deems it dated.

I think much depends on your personal style, where you wear it. Ultimately if you like it that's all that matters.

I think the dress is gorgeous. However I think if you have to ask if it’s too short then maybe you won’t feel comfortable wearing it. Personally I like it.

I think it's too short but not because you are 39. I think it's just proportionally too short for the length of your body. That last photo of the back of it really shows how short it is,bend over and look in the mirror or get dh to take a pic and make your decision then.

If you’ve got the legs and the figure for it - and you definitely have - then go for it. And anyway 39 is no age to be thinking like this. As long as you feel comfortable, don’t let anyone sway you.
