A quick photo this morning of my j brand coated jeans. Sorry for the rubbish light. They are very thin, but I'm not bothered as they are a charity shop bargain.

Sorry if I put the coat hex on you bo. I didn't take a photo of mine so now it's fixed in my head as the greatest coat ever made.

I can't decide about your coat Red. I'm ignoring the colour as I find dark greens often come out as blue on my phone. (Remember my nanny-on-acid skirt? That's khaki but looked like denim in the pic.) It's the shape like others have said - nearly good but a bit off somehow. It might look really good on though... This is why I don't bother with Ebay but you're good at spotting things.

The jeans look good quirky and you seem to be on a fine charity shop run. All mine are a bit bleh at the moment which is unusual because normally people get the Marie Kondo for Christmas and then in January they get rid of all these high end basics cos they don't love them enough. But it doesn't seem to be happening this year.

banivani · 31/01/2020 22:27

Red, now if you don’t like the shape of the coat you know what not to do. Don’t fall for getting something you think will be good enough (even though the little voice in your head is saying it won’t be) just because you think you need something different and it’s THERE. That’s my job 😉

I love the blue teddy coat, haven’t seen one made in anything but pure polyester!

Quirky, you’re having luck in the charity shops aren’t you? I’m finding feck all whenever I go in.

quirkychick · 01/02/2020 13:39

I think it all evens out, bani, there's plenty of times I go in and find nothing. I also tried on a Laura Ashley pair of burgundy coated jeans, but they were weirdly big in the leg and tight on the hips. Trousers are usually loose on the hips on me if anything, as I'm quite straight up and down, not sure who they were supposed to fit...

Redandblue11 · 01/02/2020 15:26

That coat is been put behind now.

Well, those old enough here will remember my plans to put glass divider doors at home. They have just been installed, 4 vertical panels with 3 horizontal in a dark aluminium frame and clear glass. I am chuffed with the result! We had to wait for months as they came from Italy (could not find British manufactured ones) interesting that the guys installing were from European country too.

Floisme · 02/02/2020 10:56

They sound amazing Red. Got any pics?

I'm a bit uneasy about the charity shops round here at the moment. It's always random, as you say quirky, but there are seasonal patterns too, and normally January/Feb is one of the best times (cos even people like me have a Christmas/New Year clearout). I don't remember them being this poor since the aftermath of the financial crash.

botemp · 02/02/2020 11:37

Sorry, just photobombing for Elle's sake, pay no attention to pics. Will catch up properly later.

Although I will add since I'm here now anyhow, Flo, I think a lot of people are moving on from the mental mindset of 'declutter to reclutter' kondo method to 'no buy and holding on to things just in case'.

Elle, peacoat is navy, think I forgot to mention that in the PM.

If you are correct about 2nd wave Kondo-ing bo then I am screwed.

Redandblue11 · 02/02/2020 14:02

The change in shopping habits and getting rid of is a good thing long term , I know I need to be more careful when buying even if second hand.

A couple of photos, first of how it looks folded (opens at the centre each half folding away of each other)
And second photo with half closed.

Bumwipes, 1st wave kondoing has gotten me nowhere.

Anyone watched Next in Fashion on Netflix?

botemp · 02/02/2020 20:03

Ok, catching up properly now. I haven't done much shopping to be honest. Only did a quick run through the rive gauche on Friday afternoon while OH took a nap (I probably should have gone with a nap too...) and a peruse around the outlet outside of Paris this morning and a bit of the Marais after sending OH off on the train.

I did pick up a sort of asymmetric Haider Ackermann tuxedo jacket. It's sort of dark brown chameleon colour as it colours with whatever you're wearing Confused it also had mystifying selling pull as I wasn't sure about it, then I tried it on and went 'ooh and aah' then took it off and did the whole 'am I really going to wear this blazer, do I need another blazer' spiel (I like them but some get worn more than others and the ones that do have a fabric/colour that makes them double as outerwear, this one is neither) then I tried it on again and went 'ooh pretty' Blush it's a bit of an optical illusion blazer as well, from some angles (I've tried in pic 2) it looks like I have no waist according to others Shock Anyhow, even though I was still doubting myself whilst paying for the thing I'm really glad I did buy it as I do really like it (whenever I put it on again) and how I look in it. It works well over short dresses which is a bit of a rare find for me, at least one that isn't boxy and large (tried on one of those today and did a little shriek of horror, admittedly extra shitty camera angle in a very cramped dressing room) that makes it look worse, but it was very reassuring of my HA purchase).

Not that it's of any importance but HA blazer was bought in Antwerp. I've yet to buy any clothes in Paris so far. So, options...

At Le Bon Marche the locusts haven't taken it all yet. I tried on this Rick Owens silk top and I'm of two minds about it. I somehow like it but it feels a bit kangaroo from the side but potentially I have just been put off by it completely as when I first tried it on (wrong- with the fabric not tucked inwards) it was looking ahem, rather phallic Shock

I'll have a revisit (there were 4 in my size Friday so I assume they'll have one left) and see if I'm still horrified by it, I'm also unsure about the light colour with my skin tone, suspect it will look better when I apply some colour come summer but on my current pale skin it clashes somewhat.

Trousers were by Rokh, which were nice but I had a medical appointment in Antwerp for which I had to inject medication into my lower stomach and it's very swollen and a bit hard as a result (still) so I'm having a bit of a tough time gauging trouser fit annoyingly as it looks like I have a rather unattractive gunt in everything. Although I probably don't need another pair of navy trousers... they're a really great price though

Yep, now they're there Hmm

Also tried on this Rokh skirt (same RO top) which made me feel really great about the lower stomach. Not. It was rather frumptastic on me, think it's meant for someone much more straight up and down that needs a bit of shape. Or just not me 🤷

Tried on this massive leather jacket from Ganni (new collection, surprisingly not insanely expensive, I expect it'll be all over Insta soon). I seem to be rather taken ridiculously heavy and far too large coats at the moment. It looked awful closed and another one that won't see me get round a corner without getting winded but fun to try on...

Found this Japanese bag and probably shouldn't have thought about it because by the time I'll be in the shop again it'll probably be gone. I liked it for its simplicity but it's not especially pick pocket proof as it's completely open and I'm still traumatised from my near pick pocket incident. Though you'd need really long and light arms, but I only realised that part later...

Also tried on the grey Céline coat at the outlet above (little else to be excited about over there otherwise), I've always wanted that model in cashmere but at a severely discounted price, but whilst this wool version definitely came in at that price point it felt a little too stiff on me with the length feeling off (not as noticeable in the pic), it made me shorter where the cashmere version makes me taller and hugs my body better. I'm now not so subtly selling Elle on it as she's got the height.

And I spotted this silk dress from Soeur and had to think of Red. If you're in need of something for the Chelsea flower show, may I suggest this one... Second pic doesn't do it much justice due to weird angle and hanger but at least you can appreciate the print close up.

Oh, and I've yet to see a culotte anywhere Sad

And the shoddy wi-fi is making posting take forever... Argh.

Not loving the Rick Owens top Bo, I agree it looks a bit kangaroo and now I can't unsee it. Can it be tweaked to non-pouchiness? Love the colours though, really gorgeous.

The magic jacket looks great, great colour. Love a versatile dark colour that goes with everything!

Also obv love the wide trousers from Rokh. Sorry to hear about your stomach, hope you feel better soon!

Redandblue11 · 03/02/2020 07:47

I am admiring that japanesse bag Bo and also the leather coat, even if a for fun try. Yes agree that RO top is odd...
Loving that Soeur dress, I didn’t see it when I was there! I cannot see it in the website either ...
And yes I have my chelsea tickets again this year, you know me too well!

Redandblue11 · 03/02/2020 07:58

I hope the doctor appointment goes well Bo

botemp · 03/02/2020 08:43

Doctor's appointment has already been, so I'm fine Smile It's on their website here, Red, it's new collection so it probably was just in the store.

'I had to inject medication into my lower stomach,' she says casually. You poor thing bo Flowers

I'm joining the line of admirers for the magic blazer. That boxy check one could have come straight out of Pamela Ewing's wardrobe in Dallas - which I did covet at the time but a wise swerve I think. I like the long brown leather coat too, probably because I've got one a bit like it, although mine's single breasted. I've not worn it in years but I suspect how it looks closed won't be an issue any more.

quirkychick · 03/02/2020 13:49

Oh, bo, I had to inject heparin into my lower stomach post pg with dd1 and during pg with dd2. You have my sympathy. It left me horribly bruised, but better that a blood clot.

Love the blazer.

banivani · 04/02/2020 08:21

First I started wearing jumpers, now I've stitched up pockets on my trousers because they gaped and spoiled the line. How this thread has changed me.

Floisme · 04/02/2020 08:37

Thanks to you too quirky It's having to inject it yourself that sounds particularly bad - just thinking about it makes me want to curl up into a ball.

That's impressive bani. As for my own journey - today is my first for a month wearing make up and I chose one item..... Lipstick. Grin Nothing else this week. I'm studying the before and after photos over a pre-work coffee and I have to say, the results-effort ratio is pretty high. It's not just the flash of colour, it seems to light up my face like one of those magic, glowy skin mask thingies. And all for 30 seconds work. Shame it'll all be gone by the time I've finished my coffee.
