Nice Lim buy, Bo - was that the top that also had a very attractive back?

No-one is going to want to wear codpieces. famous last words

I found the tweed in that coat a little too bright Elle. Am nothing if not choosey and difficult. ;) But I think you look good in that shape! A bit excentric like.

botemp · 27/12/2019 15:34

No, I bought a quite similar silk grey top with a Racer back from Christiaan Wijnants at the sample sales. They sound similar bit aren't in RL, the CW has ties and a bit of drape to it depending on how it's tied and more of a light cement colour where PL is more a taupey grey.

Maybe cod fish will want some codpieces? It really is screaming, 'I'm very insecure about my masculinity!'. You can save yourself some money and just get a tote saying exactly that Grin

Ah I’m confusing them then. Btw nice to hear your cardamom buns turned out well - cardamom buns are probably the worlds greatest bake thing.

quirkychick · 27/12/2019 21:03

I think now I've done the great declutter of my bedroom cupboard where I store excess clothes etc. I doubt I'll find much else, bo. I used to have a green check coat as a teenager that was a charity shop find. My mum hated it, I of course, rather liked it Grin.

Codpieces, I suppose one step in from bumbags/fanny packs...

Lovely coat, Elle, the tweed is gorgeous, if colourful, but I know I'd find the shorter sleeves too annoying and cold.

Great bargain top, bo. I like taupe, it's a great colour.

quirkychick · 30/12/2019 09:28

I've just ordered these assymmetric trousers from toast. I have previously had problems with their trousers and fallen between sizes Sad, which is annoying as they're usually beautifully made. They have a find your fit function, so hopefully that will help, where you put in the brand and size of trousers that you already own. I think these will make a nice change to the wider legged winter trousers I own and are a bit like a more wintry version of a favourite summer pair I have.

Love the tweed skirt, red, the shape is really nice.

That pair of trousers looks really promising “quirky” . I have been very tempted a couple of times but I have resisted.
Although I am looking at possibly some trousers from j crew / massimo duti.

banivani · 30/12/2019 12:26

Ha quirky mumsnet keeps givgin me toast ads that I accidentally on purpose click on and those very trousers have caught my attention more than once! They look good! I'd worry about them going very poufy in the front, so I couldn't be bothered ordering (where's my "brick and mortar shops are the best" gang at?)

viennesewhirls · 30/12/2019 14:11

Merry Christmas all! Over my break I started the Netflix show Call My Agent which has reignited my interest in Parisian fashion and also made me think I should find some heels that would be comfortable for everyday wear....

Redandblue11 · 30/12/2019 15:08

Viennese I love Call my agent, I binge watched all the seasons recently 😀
What sort of shoes do you like?

viennesewhirls · 30/12/2019 15:46

Today I’m wearing Winterized Converse (black leather high-tops with fluffy inners), to give you an idea. For more formal wear I gravitate towards brogues. I’m 5 foot 9 so never really felt the need for heels!

Redandblue11 · 30/12/2019 16:26

Have you tried The Shoe Embassy?
here
I promise I don’t have anything to do with them, as I have mentioned them in the past, I find them great quality and great price.
I don’t do heels either tbh, but just looking these caught my eye... not sure how much I will wear them tbh so I might just admire

XingMing · 30/12/2019 16:58

Gosh Red... I have fallen in love with Shoe Embassy. Oh dear... I want the Hatter ankle boots in all the colours, and there's a pair of mid-heel pumps in a monochrome pattern that remind of some grey patent Pancaldi pumps that I wore to death in the 80s.

Question time: Are they comfortable to wear? And true to size? Wide/narrrow fit?

Then, advice, wise ones... I know the rule says if you were old enough to wear it the first time around, then you're (probably) too old to do so again: does it apply to shoes?

Hope everyone has had a fantastic Christmas and is ready to sparkle at your NYE parties: what are you wearing?

Redandblue11 · 30/12/2019 17:15

Xing they are very very comfortable... I might have 4 pairs ... 2 ankle boots and 2 flats.
I found them so far true to size , when they are not they tell you that under “finer detail” e.g snapshot of the hatter ones attached here.
So for my current ankle boots I went a size down as I am between sizes. They are normal with in general , I am extremely picky uncomfortable in narrow shoes but on the other hand I don’t have overly wide feet but I find these just perfect.

Honestly I would give them a go if you like their style as in my eyes they are extremely good quality for the price.

Redandblue11 · 30/12/2019 17:19

It doesn’t apply to shoes!!
We will soon be running around naked if that is the case as most stuff is a repeat from previous decades atm!
Crown Grin

I wish all a great NYE too! Oh you stylish lot!!!

Tidying the house and the spare room as a play room as we are hosting tomorrow for 4 families with children. I will be fun! I keep telling myself, then again by 12 I don’t think anyone will mind much the state of things Wine Gin

XingMing · 30/12/2019 17:34

Red, bookmarked!!

quirkychick · 30/12/2019 17:34

Oh the Shoe Embassy looks great. I've already spent my Christmas money budget on the toast trousers, but those Hatter boots and some of the brogues are gorgeous. I definitely share shoe taste with Xing and thank you red for sharing the link!

TheTeaFairy · 30/12/2019 18:08

Apologies for jumping on the thread (long-time lurker and luster). Smile

I was wondering if any of you have a pair of Fiorentini + Baker boots? I'm thinking of investing in some (probably second-hand, which would still be £££) but can't get to grips with the sizes.

Some posts/forums suggest that they come up big, ie if you're normally 40, go for 39. Any thoughts/info would be great. 🙏 💐

banivani · 30/12/2019 18:10

I’m failing to really get into Call My Agent tbh - I don’t seem to like any of the characters enough to care. 🤔

I’m home for NYE so maybe I’ll put in my black wrap dress. From Boden haha.

BloomedAgain · 30/12/2019 19:10

Today I'm wearing a very oversized very thick charcoal cashmere sweater/dress with leather leggings and a pair of ancient sheepskin lined flat ankle boots. I feel the cold so badly I think I need to visit a Scandinavian country and stock up!
Have you looked at the everlane day heels
@viennesewhirls ? I've literally slept in them on long flights for work

XingMing · 30/12/2019 20:10

Welcome TeaFairy, always room for another one. Never encountered Fiorentini & Baker before, but they are lovely. I didn't look at the price tags, but definitely chic and covetable. I could understand the lust.

I spent my birthday gift on a new pair of black jeans in the sale. DH was supposed to be occupied elsewhere but accomplished his mission fast so came to comment. Very carefully, the vendeuses did not mention what I was spending on a pair of jeans, lest he said, I could buy two pairs for that.... actually, he could have bought three pairs in Debenhams. But he did agree they looked great.

viennesewhirls · 30/12/2019 20:26

I like the look of Everlane but shipping from the US scares me.
I had seen links to Shoe Embassy on previous threads and I really like them - have also been looking at Bobbies. I get a pay rise this month so once I’ve paid off all the new ski kit I’ve had to buy some fancy shoes may be in my future.

TheTeaFairy · 30/12/2019 20:44

Thank you @XingMing Smile

XingMing · 30/12/2019 20:57

Shipping outside the EU is fraught with anxiety viennesewhirls. I have a few US baskets I've not bought because the admin, shipping and add-on costs would be more than the garment. DS bought a band T shirt which tripled in cost once the handling etc was added.

BloomedAgain · 30/12/2019 22:14

I'm a bit of a coward and tend to get US stuff brand new (and already in Europe) on ebay (which is how I acquired the everlane heels). I've been stung by customs charges too many times.

Floisme · 31/12/2019 10:46

Come on Xing if we followed that rule we'd have been housebound since 1995.

Shoe Embassy look great and I'll definitely bookmark them. Likewise Fiorentini & Baker - I've never come across them before TeaFairy so I can't help with the sizing I'm afraid, but I love them already and I also really like the look of the company (which ties in with one of my new year resolutions).

I'm a bricks and mortar shop fan but I do make an exception for Toast as no-one round here sells anything quite like it. I normally find the sizing quite consistent but then I tend to just buy specific things. I think those asymmetric style trousers can be kinder on the stomach than pleats, because the fold is diagonal so it kind of drapes rather than pouffs out.

It's been the kind of Christmas where you switch between 'Aaargh families! - there's got to be a better way' to 'Aw families! - there's really nothing better'. On repeat. And it's not over yet. Today and tonight however promises a lull and right now, I can think of nothing nicer than going to bed at 10.00. Happy New Year to you all.
