Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Sallie Hope you like your new do. Even a trim does loads I find. I'm so overdue a cut. I think it's time...

TantricTwist · 17/06/2019 14:11

I'm overdue a cut too Enid and Sallie. My skin does seem more settled but I'm not wearing much foundation at the moment.

I will start wearing more from next week so I'm excited to try out my new CYO 103 foundation which I managed to get hold of in the end and seems a good colour match for me.
I also have a CYO 207 Matte foundation in a tube similar to Nars which many brands seem to be copying. The Nars foundation although more ££ is such a lovely texture. The CYO is thicker and not as sheer and dewy but it's for the summer months due to the darker shade.

Using Liquid Gold again 2 -3 times a week seems to be making a world of difference to my skin at the moment, so I'm happy with that.

YesQueen · 17/06/2019 16:07

@EnidButton really nice. Lots of volume and length and no clumping, I'm impressed

YesQueen · 17/06/2019 16:16

Hard to get a good photo!

thanks for pooping in Bo Grin I got the mail but sat on my hands and didn't use it as don't need anything right now and I'm trying not to stockpile.

That being said a friend's given me a mini tube of Bare Minerals complexion rescue that's too dark for her but just right for me. I've just seen QVC have got a TSV coming up that contains it so I'm tempted now....Blush

I'm pleased with my hair and really liked the hairdresser, she's a friend of a friend so felt comfortable with her. She was very honest that a) a lob or any cut above shoulder length will give me triangle head and b) I am not going to be able to go much lighter as my very dark hair pulls red so to get through red/orange to blonde would be a mammoth task and given I already have coarse, frizzy hair then not really a good idea in terms of the damage it could do.
She is going to try to take a little bit more off the length next time I go but will do it very gradually so we can stop before triangle head starts.

She's also talking to an aesthetician she knows (who is also a nurse) about using her premises to do botox, fillers etc so said she'd let me know about that but she uses this person herself for botox and looks good and very natural so think it would be worth having a consultation.

I'm sure you've said and I missed it but what mascara is that YesQueen?

YesQueen · 17/06/2019 16:43

It's shiseido controlled chaos mascara Smile

EnidButton · 17/06/2019 16:53

Looks good Queen!

Sallie she sounds very very good. If only all hairdresser's were aware of Triangle Head. Shame about the colour but sounds like she knows what she's doing. Getting and keeping hair healthy is more important. Glad you like it Smile

Tant Be interested to see how you like the CYO foundation too.

SallieSallow · 17/06/2019 18:32

It does look very good YesQueen is it a tubing one? I did google but couldn’t tell from the blurb though it said it coats lashes in a film which makes me think it is?

Yes Enid this hairdresser is very much err on the side of caution which suits me perfectly, but we know a lot of the same people though so she probably didn’t want me going away grumbling Grin

YesQueen · 17/06/2019 19:12

@SallieSallow I don't think so, it doesn't seem to be when I apply it anyway

Had some issue with the curls dropping out my hair last week, I would wash it at night and by the next morning it looked awful. As I'm curly girl method, I've been using lots of moisturising stuff and someone suggested I needed more protein. Did a protein treatment (matrix morpher kick up) and OMG. I've not washed it for 3 days and my curls are bouncy and perfect still!

JDSTER · 17/06/2019 22:32

Benefit mascara minis are free this month with Elle magazine. Actually Elle and cosmopolitan- 2 magazines for £5.50 and the mascara. Elle on its own was also £5.50 Confused. Anyway, bad gal bang, they’re real and roller lash available. I’ve used roller lash before and liked it so I got that one

SallieSallow · 18/06/2019 06:24

I used to absolutely love benefit roller lash and used it for years with no issues then all of a sudden it started smudging really badly Sad presume my eyes must have got more watery but I have to stick to tubing mascaras only now otherwise I end up with panda eyes.

TantricTwist · 18/06/2019 13:38

I just bought the M&S summer beauty box, it's not as great for me as previous years but at least it means I'll just stick to the one box this time Grin

I find my Benefit Bad Girl Bang mascara is brilliant in that there is no need to curl etc and looks great but I do get panda eyes with it.

But I'm not sure if in fact that's due to foundation or moisturiser applied earlier.

Tsmummy08 · 18/06/2019 14:11

Sallie Apologies for the very late reply, I've had family here for what seems like weeks and my time hasn't been my own :) Glad your hair turned out well - mine was cut just below chin length, much shorter than yours, although has grown lots in the last few weeks and I can put it up again now, which of course I'm doing... I think I'll cut it again, be short for what remains of this crappy summer then grow it. I was going to put up a photo but chickened out!

Filler update: my under-eye filler is disappearing rapidly after only 3 months. I was warned I'd only get 6 months out of it because of my metabolism/gym-going but 3 months is ridiculous. It's interesting though, because the effect seemed subtle but the reemergence of the tear trough (especially on one side) has been quite noticeable. I'll do it again in a few months as it may last longer the second time but if it doesn't will reassess. For reference, my botox starts going after 2 months and I get it done every 4 months.

SallieSallow · 18/06/2019 16:26

oh heck Tsmummy I would have a halo of frizz never mind a triangle if I went chin length Shock I might put a blurry face photo of mine up but will wait till I've styled it, it's just in a messy bun today.

That's a shame about the fillers but like you say might last longer the next time.

Outtheforest · 19/06/2019 05:36

Popping back in, I've managed to keep up with the suncream and LRP duo routine and no huge chin spots this month just a couple of pimples/black heads which I'm hoping the BHA will sort when it finally arrives.
One problem though is that on days where I've reapplied the suncream alot my skin looks very dull even after washing. I cant decide if its because I'd gotten used to having a tanned/red face or if it's a consequence of not double cleansing. I've tried double cleansing many times and always break out, I definitely have less is more skin. Any suggestions?

banivani · 19/06/2019 11:57

@Outtheforest how do you double cleanse, when you've tried it?

Outtheforest · 19/06/2019 13:27

@banivani admittedly I haven't attempted for a long time and when I did I was using various superdrug cleansers. Applying to dry skin and wipe off with a warm face cloth followed by regular washing. Wondering if I should try again with a nicer product if anybody has any suggestions? I've pretty oily skin and found the various creams/balms/oils I used just to heavy.

banivani · 19/06/2019 14:12

That's what I was thinking, the act of wiping with a face cloth might have annoyed your skin, or an ingredient, or ...

I'd suggest just washing twice with whatever you're using for starters, and see if that makes a difference in dullness. I use rinse of oil cleansers to shift sunscreen and bb cream, then a low pH foaming cleanser. At the moment it's the Muji cleansing oil and Cosrx Good Morning something cleanser. But I wouldn't buy anything just yet if I were you. Try using your cleanser twice and see what happens.

SallieSallow · 19/06/2019 15:24

I have oily skin and am fine with using an oil cleanser first followed by a wash and I use a flannel for both stages. But I agree with Bani that you could just try doing a second cleanse with whatever you're using currently and see how you get on with that.

mintmagnummm · 19/06/2019 17:26

I've just bought benefit roller lash, won't be trying it for around a week or so yet though but will keep you posted. Yesqueen that mascara looks great on you!

TantricTwist · 19/06/2019 20:06

@EnidButton and @YesQueen

I really love the CYO long lasting foundation. It's such a lovely consistency, goes on like a dream. The 103 shade is what I have and it's a perfect match. No wonder you wanted to stock up YesQueen

YesQueen · 19/06/2019 20:17

@TantricTwist oh I'm glad you like it! It's just.... easy? I don't have the oh it's caking/separating/that primer doesn't work/it doesn't go on right, it just "is"

TantricTwist · 19/06/2019 22:24

Yes that's exactly it, it just 'is'.

YesQueen · 19/06/2019 22:26

I spent £26 on a hair gel BlushGrin and it's the best product I've ever used on my hair but the hold is insane. I like to get a "cast" so my curls go all crunchy and then scrunch it out
Well, let's just say it took me ten mins to scrunch it out Grin it is very very strong!!!

cad186 · 19/06/2019 23:13

I really like the cyo foundation too!
