🐌 Fantastic Skincare: Shitting About All Day Discussing Co Dictionary

Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Bo I started layering frezyderm as found the tinted one could go a bit claggy applied all in one go so I just got in the habit, its probably not really necessary with the clear one.

Now that we’re all so well synced think we might need to get the sheep back out for our next thread 🐑 🐑🐑 Grin

SallieSallow · 19/12/2019 20:36

Sorry my poor sheep look rather odd on that post Confused Grin

ClientListQueen · 19/12/2019 22:40

My routine is fairly(!) simple now

Am
Boots botanics cleanser (been through 6 bottles at least!)
Some form of hydrating serum (I have too many)
Alpha h essential hydration cream
No SPF at this time of year as I leave home in the dark and get home in the dark and no windows at work...

Pm
Boots own brand eye makeup remover
A cleansing balm or cream (Clinique TTDO, alpha h, good things honey, beauty kitchen)

Then it gets a bit complex Grin I use retinol about 3-4 times a week, acids maybe 2-3 times and mix it up depending on whether I'm feeling dry or hormonal spots etc

Either
Acid, murad recovery serum, moisturiser (currently may coop raw)

kikumasamune high moist lotion, retinol, moisturiser

kikumasamune high moist lotion, oil (I'm using la belle lune), moisturiser

ClientListQueen · 19/12/2019 22:41

Oh the verso eye cream that botemp made me shell out for WinkGrin I like it a lot

botemp · 19/12/2019 22:51

Oh yes the Verso eye serum, I'm like a heroin dealer urging you all to mainline that shit, aren't I Blush

botemp · 19/12/2019 22:52

Also, are you a vampire now Client? No windows sounds brutal.

OP posts:
ClientListQueen · 19/12/2019 22:53

Botemp - not quite! We have windows but to a corridor so no actual sunlight if that makes sense? Like a glass box in a box Grin

EnidButton · 20/12/2019 01:16

PM lipstick is on its way bo Getting here on Monday so peak berry lips season. 👄 Grin

Tried the CYO buttery foundation today and it's impressive. Goes on really easily. Good coverage but not heavy. Stayed put through the Christmas food shop and all evening. Only downside is I think it's a shade too dark and it's the lightest they do so it's that or nothing. But it blends in well enough to be ok but might be obvious in daylight. So I think it'll be my going out foundation. It's a really good formula and the price is amazing so I'm still pleased with it. Maybe they'll extend the shade range as it's been so popular?

EnidButton · 20/12/2019 01:17

Jesus I didn't realise that was the time! Better go and wash it off and get to bed.

Outtheforest · 20/12/2019 08:36

Thanks bo maybe I will try alternating it with the PC as would be good if it works as I can get it here so could make my PC last a bit longer. I'm in a hot and humid climate but will keep an eye out for any sudden oil production.

BlueSkyAtChristmas · 20/12/2019 15:23

@botemp yes I have used the surratt as a cream blush; it’s nice. More like a subtle bronzer on me though. It’s quite difficult to build up so pigmentation is not that strong. Such a shame about LF delivery- I was very surprised it was free delivery in the UK though

botemp · 20/12/2019 15:37

It used to be free delivery and if I order through the UK site it still says it's free and I can reclaim it but it's such a hassle and it's probably better to just order a lot of things at once rather than buy individual bits and pieces all the time. Subtle bronzer is pretty much what I'm looking for in terms of colour...

Enid I'm very Envy Envy Envy mine are still in New Jersey, they'll go to Germany first and then get here a day later (usually), then they'll be delivered so only by some miracle they may arrive Tuesday end of day if they go out on a flight tonight but I'm not counting on it. Going away shortly after Christmas so hoping it won't arrive that much later.

Are we doing the Snailies again this year? Will have to get them up early if that's the case.

OP posts:
SallieSallow · 20/12/2019 19:11

Oh yes please to Snailies Bo 🐌🐌🐌 (or should it be the Sheepies now Grin) though don’t think I’ve introduced anything new this year.

I’ve got my tret up to every second night (though still buffering) with no major peeling or sad dusty-ness, but the weather is wet but mild here which I think is helping.

EnidButton · 20/12/2019 20:24

Yes to Snailies. I don't think I did mine last year so should have something to put.

Knowing our postal system bo it could still be after Xmas but at least it's on its way. (Tbf to our local post office, they've been very good this year.) Yours can be your New Year present to yourself.

Jedstre · 20/12/2019 20:26

Another yes to snailies. I like hearing about everyone’s routine and purchases.

botemp · 20/12/2019 20:43

This thread is nearly full so I'll start up a new one and post the Snailies template onto the first post after the OP, bit early but whatevs. Lurkers do join in with the Snailies, Christmas spirit and all that Xmas Smile

OP posts:
Karcheer · 20/12/2019 21:04

What’s snailies?

botemp · 20/12/2019 21:17
