Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

I was tempted to go for a lob but the high maintenance aspect put me off & I run the risk of triangle head if I go too short. Is yours layered Bo or all one length?

banivani · 12/06/2019 17:08

Ha, I got my hair cut today too - it's nothing new really but I'm currently feeling a little Russian - front is a bit to precise. Let's see if it gets better. ;)

Sorry Bo, you're right - it's the Lipikar. I thought it was toleriane lipikar or whatever - LRP has stupid names for everything I can't remember what's what!

Knew jars were ok. Grin

TantricTwist · 12/06/2019 19:06

YesQueen I googled £2.25 foundation last night and up popped the CYO one from Boots so I bought a couple in different shades 106 / 107 (hopefully not too dark as the lighter ones were all gone) and I also bought a couple of the other type of no shine foundation in 2 shades as well as a few other CYO bits and pieces in the sale like bronzer, concealer and cream blush - only came to £16, yay, bargain.

YesQueen · 12/06/2019 19:49

@TantricTwist ooh that is a bargain!!!

Tsmummy08 · 12/06/2019 20:49

Hello all!

Thanks Queen for the headsup on CYO, I've bought one of the 103s - not a massive foundation wearer but I did like this one, shame it's being discontinued...

Sallie I've definitely suffered triangle head since my chop 6 weeks ago and often end up wearing the top bit up because I don't feel like styling it every day... in fact I'm regretting it a little as I feel less feminine without my long hair... all in my own head undoubtedly, but it's interesting how much I identified with my hair!

cad186 · 12/06/2019 20:50

I also bought the CYO foundation, some cream blush and an eyeshadow pencil, think it came in under £7!

SallieSallow · 12/06/2019 21:01

I do not need any more makeup (& need to purge existing stash) so making myself stay away from CYO sale Grin

TSmummy how short did you go? I was very attached to my super long hair and think I over identified with it. I had it cut out of necessity (it got matted when I wasn’t looking after it properly) but actually prefer it medium length and I can do so much more with it. Shoulder length might be a bridge too far though though I do have the airwrap now which seems to keep my frizz under control.

EnidButton · 13/06/2019 02:00

So I felt brave and put the Glamglow mask on my chin and further up my nose to almost the top. Left it for less time than before but I think I applied it slightly thicker.

It's burnt my skin! Around the edges it's bright sunburnt reddy pink. Only where the mask has been so not from rubbing it off. There's a crisp wobbly line everywhere it's touched. The middle is pinker too but it's mainly the edge. Wtf. 😕 Not sore just looks daft.

So those of you who bought it, approach with caution. I'm only using it on my snout from now on. Good ol' Vichy for my chin.

Hoping it calms down by the morning. 🐽

Behold this extremely accurate and professional artist's impression of the Glamglow crime scene...

Feel free to complement me on my fabulous lashes. It's the Rapidlash. 💅🏻

I can't believe that took me 10 minutes to do. Grin I think it's time I got some sleep.

EnidButton · 13/06/2019 02:15

*compliment

banivani · 13/06/2019 08:56

I think the glamglow is too strong to be careless with, so I'll be avoiding using it too often. There are a few irritants in the ingredients. I used it all over face with no ill effects but will be waiting a few days before trying again on just my nose, and then wait some more before maybe trying on whole face again. Softly, softly ...

Lovely colour eyes you've got there Enid, very distinctive!

TantricTwist · 13/06/2019 11:17

Marvellous self portrait Enid Wink you are a woman of many talents Grin hope the redness has calmed down.

EnidButton · 13/06/2019 12:31

Why thank you Bani 👀 Taken years of dedicated practice Tant

Redness went after a couple of hours. Dabbed a bit of cicaplast on the worst bits but think it would have gone anyway. A google shows it's a fairly common reaction so softly softly approach is definitely best.

Also noticed it was mainly very young smooth cheeked girls using it. None of them looked over 20. Which highlights where they're aiming their marketing. That stinks tbh. Not one of them needed anything more than a gentle cleanser and moisturiser and they're putting a £40 acid heavy clay mask on their cheeks.

Anyway, chin and nose are smooth and sf free today so that's good.

SallieSallow · 13/06/2019 12:55

Love the self portrait Enid and your beautiful long lashes Smile

I used to use glamglow all over my face and was ok with it, seem to remember slight pinkness that went away very quickly but no other reaction or irritation. But I had to be super careful not to allow any to stray down onto my neck as or it would give me a red rash there so yes think it is pretty potent.

JDSTER · 13/06/2019 19:24

Loving the picture Enid Grin. I’ve got rapid lash and it was great for a couple of months at most but it seems to have stopped working- almost like the active ingredient has been lost in the opening and use of the product, if that makes sense?
Re spatula. I just got one of the ones from amazon which didn’t have great reviews, if I remember right, but it’s great for the lip gloss tubes and obviously it only gets used occasionally, once I’m down to the last dregs.

I was wondering where my Glamglow order was. Turns out there was a problem with payment method so I’ve reordered today.

mint primark have excellent blenders.

Off to check CYO stuff 🐑

mintmagnummm · 14/06/2019 07:31

Oh thanks JDSTER I'll have a look in primark 👍🏻

TantricTwist · 14/06/2019 10:38

Re spatula - I just use a tea spoon.

YesQueen · 14/06/2019 10:54

I'm eyeing up the lipstick queen the truth nude lipstick. But i have a new rule of one in one out, so I need to finish a lip balm or lipstick first Blush

SallieSallow · 14/06/2019 15:52

I’ve got some long handled teaspoons, not sure they’d fit through the top of the bottle though.

YesQueen I’ve been eyeing up frog prince after seeing it mentioned on another thread here, but I have way too many lip products and don’t tend to like actual lipsticks on me (prefer gloss or balm stains) so I’m sitting on my hands. (Sitting just autocorrected to shitting again luckily I spotted it Shock Grin)

Mint I get my blenders from Amazon this one is pretty good though I find them all much of a muchness tbh but they’re all just as good as the ‘original’ expensive one.

mintmagnummm · 15/06/2019 08:25

Thank you Sallie will look at that one too :-)

YesQueen · 15/06/2019 09:58

Ooh my new mascara has arrived, can't wait to try it

SallieSallow · 15/06/2019 12:52

I’ve had my hair done Smile it’s just a couple of inches below shoulder length so nothing too drastic, she wasn’t very keen on the idea of me going lighter though as thinks it would damage my hair too much so I’ve parked that idea now.

botemp · 15/06/2019 20:00

Just pooping in quickly to announce that Lookfantastic has a flash sale at the moment. You need to click through the email to use the code, but for those who do get the email, it's 30% off a selection including the DHC cleansing. I've just stocked up Halo

The Vaseline all over the face thread is making my chin breakout just reading it. 😬

The neck of my bottle is too skinny for a teaspoon so ordering a mini spatula doo dah. Thanks JD and Tant.

Skin feels more settled in this weather/temp. Anyone else think that?

Queen How was the mascara?
