🐌 Fantastic Skincare: Shitting About All Day Discussing Co Dictionary

Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

I think smell is a good indicator when seeing if something's gone off and an spf won't work as well past its date.
I just replaced a leave in hair conditioner that was smelling fishy even though no-one else could smell it and the new one works much better. I bought it years ago when I did my hair differently and didn't think much of it until trying it again recently. Tempting to keep it as it was a ££ ish Keratase one but glad I replaced it now. (They'd even changed the packaging) If in doubt, replace.

I got my glamglow today and had to put it straight on my snout. Very tingly/stingy on application but it quickly settled down. Going to give it 10 mins.

I’m excited Grin

banivani · 11/06/2019 15:45

I'm picking mine up today too Grin

Changing the subject - what with my rash and all I've been applying body lotion like a crazy person this past month. Very unlike me. I opted for the LRP Toleriane range, because I fancied the niacinamide in it (again - placebo is an effect) would do wonders for the redness. However, the pumps on the bottles are pissing me off. It feels like there must be about 100 ml or more left of cream in the bottle, but the pump just comes up empty. I'm storing them upside down now and gingerly shaking out the last bits. Has anyone else had this problem?

openupmyeagereyes · 11/06/2019 17:12

banivani I find I need to do this with most things that come in a pump dispenser but aren’t very liquid. It’s very annoying. A tube that stands on its lid is much more practical for this sort of product.

The glamglow didn’t work miracles on first application, I’ll try it again in a couple of days.

banivani · 11/06/2019 20:04

More creams should come in jars! Then you get it all 😡

Thanks for explaining the title by the way ladies 😘 when you broke it down I recognised the components all right 😁

Am going to glamglow my nose tonight ( 🐑) Am expecting great things based on the smell.

SallieSallow · 11/06/2019 20:25

I’m not keen on jars as as I think they’re less hygienic but pumps annoy me too, my toleriane cleanser is at that irritating stage where there’s plenty left but it’s a bugger to get any out. And they can get a bit over excited and spurt everywhere as we discussed on a previous thread Grin

Good luck with the glamglow Bani hope you end up with a happy snout 🐽

EnidButton · 11/06/2019 20:29

Realised the smell is aniseed not mud. Blush Would explain why I like it so much. Love the smell of fennel, aniseed and liquorice.

I'm going through the ££ Elemis peptide cream-oil way way too fast. Only got it a week ago and its gone down already. I'll have to cut back on it although I don't feel I use too much.
That's in a pump and there's a decent amount left in the 'empty' bottle. Can't quite scrape it out. Glass bottles look and feel nice but annoying. I suppose they say it's more hygienic but can't say I've ever stuck an unclean finger in a moisturiser pot.

I've seen those long skinny silicone scrapers for getting to the bottom of cosmetic bottles but they never have very good reviews. Tempted to try one anyway.

EnidButton · 11/06/2019 20:31

I suppose they say

Sorry cross posted with you Sallie. "They" meant manufacturers not you! Blush Sounds a bit rude after your post.

SallieSallow · 11/06/2019 21:03

Ha Enid I think I’ve fallen for the spiel that jars are unhygienic, I think ‘they’ say skin cells can transfer from your fingers (even when clean) and also products in jars are more exposed to the air I suppose. Not sure if there’s anything in it but I’m definitely anti-jar Grin

I like a nice squeezey tube you can chop in half to get the dregs out or a dropper for serums.

JDSTER · 11/06/2019 22:08

Enid I got one if those mini spatula things for lip gloss. I have Dior and Bobbi Brown lipglosses and it works well for them.

YesQueen · 11/06/2019 22:15

My favourite foundation is reduced to £2.25 online. I debated for 15 mins over how many was acceptable to buy Blush

EnidButton · 11/06/2019 23:17

I thought that said you'd bought 15 Queen! (Did you??)

Sallie Everyone likes tubes don't they. Best of both worlds, easy to cut open at the end but sealed and hygienic whilst being used. I'm pro tube.

JD Did you just get one off Amazon it is there a particular one that's good? I should try one. My foundation is in a glass bottle too.

YesQueen · 12/06/2019 06:20

@EnidButton I went for 4!

banivani · 12/06/2019 06:59

Tubes are the best. Or jars. Who cares about a smidgen more bacteria in stuff I smear on my legs.

SallieSallow · 12/06/2019 07:33

Is it CYO YesQueen? Someone posted up thread that Boots are no longer stocking it hence the sale so maybe you should buy 15 Smile

YesQueen · 12/06/2019 07:34

@SallieSallow yes! It wasn't reduced in store weirdly Confused but only online

botemp · 12/06/2019 09:01

That's some restraint, Queen, I'd have thought 10 at least since it's your all time favourite butter face product.

What product did you get Bani? I'm unfamiliar with Toleriane body products, I thought Lipikar was the body range with niacinamide.

I'd have to look it up but kindofstephen did a whole post about jars. It's not bad at all unless you're talking unstable actives. It's supposedly not unhygienic at all. What does seem unhygienic to me is those posers on Instagram who use the droppers directly on their face

I know we have spoken about this previously but what beauty blender was meant to be good?? Need to replace my real techniques one and not sure whether to get the same again or not....

botemp · 12/06/2019 09:05

In other news, I went to a new hairdresser and I don't hate it. I may actually really like it. Didn't even need to tell him what I absolutely did not want as he beat me to it. Will know properly once it's had a wash but it is the high maintenance lob. Now left contemplating hair tools as I kind of forgot that wands are tricky at this length so the creative curl wand from ghd I was eyeing isn't going to work well for me.

YesQueen · 12/06/2019 09:07

@botemp I am contemplating a second shop...
also had a hair cut, it is v v short for me. I can just tie it back but it's a stretch!

SallieSallow · 12/06/2019 09:24

I’m at the hairdressers on Saturday think I’m going to go properly shoulder length Shock just need to make sure it’s still long enough for the AirWrap. I’m seeing a new hairdresser but she’s a friend of a friend and comes highly recommended, I’m going to have a chat with her about going lighter too was thinking of a caramel balayage (sp?) but not sure if that’s possible given how dark my hair is.

Ello, I just call all lobs high maintenance. It looks like a simple undone hairstyle but it requires a few products and heat styling. I do like how it looks, just less enthusiastic about the effort involved, though generally the style stays for several days on me and I only wash on day 4 so it's not that much work.

Queen at those prices, why not go for a butter body as well Wink
