just marking my spot!!

UnnecessaryFennel · 26/12/2018 16:43

Hello lovely perfumistas, and a belated Happy Christmas to you all! Hope everyone had a good one. We were up with dp's family before Xmas and then back home to host my brother and family. They've just left thank god, I'm knackered and I think I might go and jump in the bath...

I got a bottle of EL Private Collection which was very pleasing. A lot more floral than I remembered, think they must have changed the formulation a bit, but still unusual, sharp and lovely. Also a voucher for Liberty from dp, which will almost certainly go towards a bottle of something fabulous.

Lotsofpots · 26/12/2018 16:52

Thanks for the review Mrsr8 - I love the original and have been intrigued by the difference for a while. Think it confirms the original is for me, as I love how close you have to get to it towards the end of the day.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/12/2018 18:24

Hello! SOTD Byredo Bibliotheque which DP assures me is nice, but I still can’t bloody smell.

MrsLucas · 26/12/2018 19:27

Thank you for the lovely new thread Count. Flowers

SotD Amber, Halston. Lovely to read your review Mrsr8.

toffee1000 · 26/12/2018 19:31

Am wearing my Japanese Cherry Blossom scent from Body Shop. I can still vaguely smell it. I know it’s not really a “proper” scent from a big name house, but it’s a nice smell anyway. I’ve actually got quite a few perfumes now. I got some money from my grandparents as part of a Christmas present, and I’ve found one of my favourite scents in Boots for a bargain price, so I can get myself that. It retails for about £74 in Debenhams but only £30 in Boots!!

toffee1000 · 26/12/2018 19:35

By favourite I mean I have my eye on it... HmmGrin

Hello, just posting here out of curiosity. I've never had many perfumes but is there somewhere I can see if I liked x, I would like y. I just find perfume shopping overwhelming. I used to love Ultima Sheer by Revlon. I currently use Douglas Hannant which is by same people who make Fracas. I have my eye on The Only One by D&G

MrsLucas · 27/12/2018 00:31

Hi Eesha - I used to wear Sheer Scent, but have never found a decent substitute. It goes for crazy money on ebay.

If you Google Fragrances of the World, there is a 'match my favourite' function.

Deathraystare · 27/12/2018 08:04

I managed to get both Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue and Blue Grass cheaply from Beauty Base as a Christmas present to myself!

SOTD: Cardinal. Dry, incense for a cool sunny day.

auberginesrus · 27/12/2018 16:47

SITD London 1969. At family so another day of too much food and booze. Love the place marking

MrsLucas · 27/12/2018 18:45

Just catching up properly - great to read Xing's calendar post (25th was always going to be a challenge to do in 'real time'). Nice to hear another take on the Missoni; it's hard to pin down.

toffee1000 · 27/12/2018 20:32

Sotd Lancôme O d’Azur. It’s pretty summery but my take is that I want something summery in the winter! Grin

NellVarnish · 28/12/2018 11:15

Morning perfumistas, hope you all had a very happy Christmas! Thanks for the new thread Count.

SOTD is Chanel Coromandel spritz courtesy of the Chanel counter at LHR. I’ve wanted to try it for ages but it’s not quite what I expected - very strong, really heady, it reminds me a little of No 5. Perhaps not the best choice for a flight! Not sure I’d buy it either but I’m glad I’ve satisfied my curiosity.

Thank you for the kind words, MrsLucas. I really did have to think hard about it, and resorted to Fragrantica for some pointers. It's a fiendishly complex blend and therefore quite tough to dismantle against the clock. Did wonder if I had done it justice; it's probably one to wear and evaluate a few times, which didn't feel like an option.

In Chergui today, which is a comfort blanket. Debating whether to top it up or change to something else for a nice gastropub dinner with friends and DH this evening.

MrsLucas · 28/12/2018 18:17

LT describes it as a kaleidoscopic floral, Xing. Sounds about right to me! To my nose it dances around between sweet floral, mint, musky/animalic and mossy notes, but with quite a disorientatingly stroppy geranium note in the opening. Have been wondering about the PP version of Chergui - has anyone tried?

From Chergui, to another Christopher Sheldrake, Tocadilly (courtesy of the very kind Calm Flowers). A very pretty lilac, cucumber and hyacinth, that I'm now itching to try in warmer weather. Had me reaching for Perceive (which he did for Avon) for comparison purposes, as from the same era. The latter, though, is a much fruitier, spicier floral.

Calmanddance · 28/12/2018 21:43

Yes, I too found the Missoni to be complex (thank you for the sample MrsL 🌺). I tested it first of all without looking at the notes from Fragrantica and found it to be a rich non-indolic floral with a beautiful raspberry note. The raspberry is not very fruity, more perfumey. Then wisps of civet/musk but nothing too animalic or offputting. I looked up the notes and I had an “of course!” moment with the geranium which is self-evident (once I knew it was there!). The perfume is in beautiful condition for a vintage.

I’m glad you enjoyed the Tocadilly, MrsL. It was made in 1998 and I bought it a couple of years ago when Sarah McCartney was trimming down her perfume collection, so I know it was stored well. It is a very pretty perfume, although fleeting, and of course the bottle is lovely.

I have a number of vintage perfumes now. Many of them have suffered through time, but I have several in perfect condition. I bought a full bottle of Jean D’Albret’s Casaque from Ebay some time ago for £20. It is perfect condition, with the box and liner intact, although very worn. It dates from the 60s and is a light floral with some oomph.

SOTD Miss Dior. Cor.

A funny thing happened to me today. I met my friend for lunch, and gave her her Christmas presents, including the MMM discovery set from John Lewis. When she opened it she started laughing and told me she has an almost identical set for my birthday - slightly different because she picked it up in a US Sephora. We are too alike. I got the most amazing JHAG atomiser, like an actual silver bullet.
