Sotd was MH powdered veil. Definitely a grower. My first thought was that it's a bit of a 'mum perfume'. (My mum always wore very big and bold florals so anything falling vaguely into that bracket makes me think of her in the 1980s).
But actually it settled into something really lovely and subtle.

SOTD Chanel 19.

auberginesrus · 04/01/2019 21:26

SOTD was Shay and Blue Black Tulip. Wasn't sure at first but it settled into something really lovely.

Calmanddance · 04/01/2019 22:20

Goddess of Love and Perfume (4160) was SOTD. To me it is oakmoss, dried fruit and resins with wafts of rose/violet/raspberry. It is very civilised and lovely.

KaliforniaDreamz · 05/01/2019 11:01

I found powdered Veil too flowerly too. I wore l'eau magentic and my kids said i smelled ike an old lady. gutted cos i actually like that one.
SOTD is Tender Miller Harris. I am basically a walking MH catalogue these days..... shoot me.

goddess of Love sounds divine.

KaliforniaDreamz · 05/01/2019 11:02

this made me lol as well

The Goddess of Love & Perfume is a fabulously fruity floral with an underlying touch of oakmoss. It's the way Sarah imagined that Aphrodite would smell if she descended from Mount Olympus to seduce shepherd boys (men, not actual boys because that would be wrong) on the slopes of Roseberry Topping, North Yorkshire.

MrsLucas · 05/01/2019 13:19

Kalifornia - smelling like an old lady is a badge of honour round here Smile. And some of us are in our prime Grin. Get those kids sniffing the classics - you'll educate them in no time!

I'm enjoying my sample of MH Peau Santal. (But I have a bit of an unreasonable prejudice against buying full bottles of skin scents - on the cheapskate grounds of wanting the biggest possible bang for my buck).

Speaking of skin scents, everyone here has been poorly since New Year, so I have been off perfume for a day or two. Now cautiously experimenting with TPS's Niche II box - Parterre's Root of All Goodness, is the softest herbal aromatic, and a perfect scent for recovery. With warm whispers of the lightest, almost powdery ginger and vetiver, this wraps you up in a barely there velvety fuzz of botanical wholesomeness. Worth getting the box just to try this loveliness. It's also reminding me of something from my childhood...

Have only sniffed a few of the other offerings in the box - seems a bit of a mixed bag. Puzzled by Tom Daxon's Riven Oak as it seems to smell more of (unriven) cedar? I need to give it another try.

Goddess of Love is possibly 4160T's best (and most traditional?) chypre - took me a few goes to realise quite how good it is?

Haven't tried Delira Calm - does sound challenging (metallic notes, rum and candyfloss?).

Blue Lush (Gorilla) fragrances get some serious critical appreciation, I haven't found one to really love since Sikkim Girls, but need to sniff the current crop again.

Bargain hunters, M&S were clearing out some of their perfumes, including Les Maison de Senteurs Fleur d'Orangier (I think?). Nice orange blossom opening, then a huge, sunny jasmine that goes on forever. Great for £7.50.

Those all sound very lovely Xing. Haven't tried the PP Ambre Sultan Auld but would be interested to try. Have some of their version of Sahara Noir on order (as I'm struggling to eke mine out). By the sound of the reviews, theirs is pleasant, but not that similar.

Grin Kaifornia.

Now having a flashback to the glass bottles of perfume oil Blue, and the glass rods for testing...could never find one that quite worked for me. But spent many happy hours on a Saturday afternoon trying them all out....

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/01/2019 19:42

SOTD MMM Lazy Sunday Morning. #beprepared

First scrubber of 2019 - Memoize's Superbia. Big feminine oud (just too oudy for me). I have a 2ml sample I'd be happy to send on to an oud fan. (It's very well reviewed and costs £177 for a FB!).

Calmanddance · 06/01/2019 10:29

Deliria is certainly challenging, MrsL. The metallic note lasts all the way through. One of the reviewers on Fragrantica said it reminded her of pineapple and I do see what she means. I had never thought of it before but pineapple definitely has a metallic note. I will keep trying it.

Wearing Lolita Lempicka today. This is gorgeous for cold, damp weather - cozy sweet liquorice and violets.

Would love to try the Superbia, MrsL. I think I like Oud - I certainly like the 4160 one with fruit and Oud (can’t quite remember which one that is!).

OutComeTheWolves · 06/01/2019 11:33

Yesterday's sotd was MH Peau Santal. It's not for me at all. I can't put my finger on why, but it definitely has some notes in common with white queen which I also don't like.

Anyway I have a 2ml sample going if anybody would like to try it?

MrsLucas · 06/01/2019 11:45

It's yours Calm! Inevitable Crimes (which I love)? Always get the names mixed up (Be Careful is chocolate orange - or have I got these the wrong way round?).

Calmanddance · 06/01/2019 12:27

Yes, the wrong way round! Inevitable Crimes is the chocolate orange. I think this, and Shazam!, are my Absolue favourites of the 4160 line. Thank you for the Superb(ia) offer, MrsLucas. 😊 I will send you a sample of the Deliria, just so you can try the metallic note.

Calmanddance · 06/01/2019 12:30

“absolute” not “Absolue”!

MrsLucas · 06/01/2019 12:54

Ah! Then I really like Be Careful, and MitPG which smells oudy to me too.

That will be treat - thanks Calm. Don't have many things with metallic notes, apart from Time to Draw the Raffle Numbers

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/01/2019 21:16

SOTD Caldey Island Lavender, in the hope it might help me sleep. God, I am dreading going back to work tomorrow. I have done no work this holiday, which is possibly the first time that’s ever happened.

MrsLucas · 06/01/2019 23:17

You and me both Judy. The cat has, uncharacteristically, spent the evening slung around my neck in solidarity.

Have taken a lavender leaf out of your book and SotE is Mocha Muscari (Prosody, from Niche II box). I like this - smells as much of geranium as of lavender in the opening (although the former isn't listed) combined with a gentle agarwood. Makes for an unusual, powder soft, delicately aromatic oud.
