The 4160 sale is going to be at the end of January. I don’t know which date, but whoever spots it first can post on here.

I wore L’Artisan Traversee du Bosphore yesterday. Thank you MrsL - this is one I have wanted to try for a long time! For me, it starts off with a strong smell of paper, like a thick paperback when you riffle the pages. Then the rose kicks in and it becomes rose-scented Turkish delight, dusted with icing sugar and pistachios. This stage is lovely. But the papery smell underlies it and that does put me off a bit.

Crying at "mrsgloss" Grin

Paper and Turkish delight, you say, Calm? Two of my favourite things! A client once brought me back a huge box of proper Turkish delight and it was delicious. The box was beautiful too.

Mustn't look at 4160s sale
Mustn't look at 4160s sale.

I've actually deleted my credit cards from all apps on my phone in an effort to keep to my NY resolutions. It will be interesting to see which wins, my desire for new perfume versus my reluctance to get off my arse to get my card details Grin

SOTD Cerruti again. Still feeling yuck. I've just realised a lot of my favourite perfumes were released in the 90s which was the age I grew old enough to be interested in, and buy scent with my own earned money. I wonder if this a thing for anyone else?

KaliforniaDreamz · 02/01/2019 10:59

SOTD is Vicks.
Bloody cold.

Happy new Year all.

MrsLucas · 02/01/2019 11:59

SotD is PP Tobacco Vanille -beyond the embrocation stage this is nice and cosy, with enough tobacco to stop it being sickly. Skint Perfumistas - they are doing 5 little oil.bottles for £10 delivered on eBay.

Calm - leathery paper? I like the way it stops the Turkish delight being too sweet? This is one of my desert island sniffs Smile.

MrsL, I have tried the Traversee du Bosphore again and, with some imagination, can smell a soft suede leather. It reminds me somewhat of Skin on Skin, but that is not sweet. Have you tried Skin on Skin?

PP Tobacco Vanille is a favourite of mine at bedtime. I find it very comforting, along with PP Vol de Nuit and PP Encens Satin (not all at once, though! 😱).

Floofy, many of my perfumes buys have been me trying to recapture the smells of my youth. In my case, though, it was late 60s/70s, when I bought Jean D’Albret Ecusson and Casaque, Quelques Fleurs (very expensive now but not then), Tweed, L’Air du Temps, Ma Griffe, L’Aiment. I also had a boss who was in the habit of buying perfume for me in duty free on his way back from business trips (Cabochard, Caleche, Chanel No 5).

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/01/2019 20:43

SOTD FM POAL.

MrsLucas · 02/01/2019 20:55

Funnily enough was sniffing it yesterday Calm. (Got out Explosions d'Emotions. Must have been the mention of Blue?). Are they both Duchaufours?

Calmanddance · 02/01/2019 21:41

Yes, both Duchafours. I also have Deliria, but I found that seriously weird. It is a sweet, alcoholic caramel with strong metallic notes. I need to have a retry and see if I can grow to love it. Have you tried this one?

Another Duchafour I have is Russian Princess (Brocard). This is a fruity floral with some sour fruity notes, not too sweet. I bought it in Bloom Perfumery because (a) Bertrand Duchafour (b) the bottle is sooo pretty and (3) it was only ~£20 for 100 mls. It is very enjoyable, but probably not in my top 20.

Bluesheep8 · 03/01/2019 08:58

Re LE no 15...it doesn't seem to last on my skin but I can always smell it on my clothes. I'm dabbling in mixing my perfumes now to try to get them to last. My two Tom Ford perfumes last longer together (black orchid and white patchouli) but still not as long as I'd like. Does anyone know anything about Lush fragrances? I'm on the eternal hunt for patchouli ones

XingMing · 03/01/2019 09:18

Happy 2019 to you all!

First scents of the year were Cuir Pleine Fleur on NYD. Love the floral leather in this, and unlike Feu Follet, I could buy a FB if so minded.

Jan 2 was Istanbul, which is IMO the best of the Gallivants (though I like Berlin too). It strikes me everytime I wear it that it would make a good and less spendy alternative to Portrait of a Lady.

Today, I have just sprayed the PP dupe for the FM Noir Epices, which I liked lots. This is more like something from Tom Ford, because it's heavier and sweeter than the FM (woody, spicy, dry aromatic tobacco but very light touch, and a bit aftershave-y); As this is the second time of trying and disliking, it is going to be scrubbed off. Anyone like to try... I have some sprays and could decant a few ml for anyone interested to try it?

SOTD is Prada Oeillet. Delicious spicy carnation.

Just thought I'd mention that Les Senteurs have a sale on with several reasonably priced 10ml Frederic Malle travel bottles. (Well, reasonably priced for FM...)

I will admit to being tempted by the Dries Van Noten but am still sitting on my hands, honest Grin

Bluesheep8 · 03/01/2019 15:20

Mrsr8 thanks for the Lush Karma suggestion. I've got this one and like it but it smells very orangey on me. Been into Lush today and tried The Presidents Hat which is patchouli and vanilla and liked it as it's less sweet than karma

KaliforniaDreamz · 03/01/2019 18:29

I keep hearing about Lush Breath of God. Is it really, um, lush?

Breath of God smells like dirty ashtrays to me, sadly. Great name though.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/01/2019 23:47

SOTD mG Plum for a trip to see Mary Poppins, then a big burger.

KaliforniaDreamz · 04/01/2019 01:09

I thought it might be the case altho i do love body shop white musk

Bluesheep8 · 04/01/2019 08:35

Oh I LOVE Body Shop white musk and have worn it for years. It's also DP's favourite out of all the many perfumes I own. It's another one that doesn't last on me as well as it used to, even the perfume oil. I'm convinced that it must be my skin that's changed, as surely natural perfumes haven't had their formulation changed? Talking of Body Shop, I just wish wish wish they still did all the single note perfumes in the fat little round bottles from the 80s....like patchouli...here I go again! A friend of mine used to wear body shop vanilla and it smelt amazing on her, rich and creamy but not custardy sweet. Vanilla always smelt like play doh on me for some odd reason...

Has anyone tried the PP version of Ambre Sultan, am tempted to get it as i love the original?

I've not bought anything off them for ages and all the names have rubbed off the labels so there's a bit of guesswork involved in working out which bottle is which.
