Shit products - don't waste your money

A couple of times recently, I've been so flabbergastingly disappointed with a product, I've wanted to tell other people, to save them from the same pain. So I thought it might be useful for us to have a thread, where we could all share this stuff.

I'll start...

Charles Worthington Everyday Gentle Weightless Conditioner, which should be renamed Useless Conditioner. I had high hopes. It promises to stop fine hair from getting bogged down with heavy conditioner. The trouble is that it also doesn't condition or do basic detangling. My DP (who has a hearing problem) could hear my hair breaking when I was brushing it after using the conditioner. That bad.

Dermaflannel

I didn't see any improvement.

DodgyGround · 26/08/2017 18:54

I know people will disagree, but babyliss big hair. It makes my hair look fried and takes months to sit down straight again.

Grawp · 26/08/2017 18:59

La Roche posay moisturiser. Broke me out in whiteheads (think it was the shea butter). LRP often gets recommended for acne etc but so many of their moisturisers have shea butter in which a lot of people with acneic skin struggle with.

CoLab dry shampoo. Tried it as Ruth Crilly (youtuber - a model recommends) is involved with it and I really like her. Does nothing and probably makes my hair look greasier.

ChocoholicsAnonymous · 26/08/2017 19:01

I wasn't too impressed with the Loreal root touch up spray if I'm honest. Pricey too

NomDePlumeReloaded · 26/08/2017 19:03

I don't like the BigHair either. It takes ages and does fuck all. I find the bristles are too soft too. Rubbish. I think I have the wrong hair for it.

NARS Sheer Glow foundation. Horrible. Sat on the surface of my skin looking streaky, patchy, dry and obvious. Waste of time & money that was.

BeeFarseer · 26/08/2017 19:05

I'm one of the people that La Roche Posay duo cream works on. I think it's amazing, but I agree it depends on skin type.

Seconding the Babyliss big hair critique. I have thick hair and it's useless for me. Such a waste of money.

I also agree that the Dermaflannel was a waste of money.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 26/08/2017 19:06

Benefit They're Real. Looked like I'd eaten Aragog and he was trying to crawl out of my eyes.
Aussie Moist shampoo range. Adds no moisture whatsoever.

MumBod · 26/08/2017 19:08

Estée Lauder Doublewear foundation. I looked like I'd dipped my face in a chip pan, and broke out in acne.

Cat2014 · 26/08/2017 19:09

Aussie moist. Just makes my hair greasy

Maudlinmaud · 26/08/2017 19:10

I wasn't impressed with Co lab either or any dry shampoo at all to be honest. I'm blonde and my hair needs a wash every day. But I've discovered a texturizing spray and it's changed the way I style my hair; think it was sent in birchbox or similar.

Unicorn81 · 26/08/2017 19:11

Laura Gellar balance and brighten foundation, makes me look like a glitter ball

Loyly · 26/08/2017 19:11

Babyliss Big Hair as others have said.

Batiste Plumping Powder is sticky, useless rubbish.

PookieSnackenberger · 26/08/2017 19:13

Biolage Cleansing Conditioner - all excited and ready to embrace silky curls I ended up with hair that was simultaneously greasy and frizzy. Sooo disappointing and I have a jumbo half litre bottle mocking me in the bathroom.

Just goes to show how different we all are; I love the Babyliss Big Hair (silky smooth waves) and my favourite mascara is Benefit They're Real (although it is a ridiculous price).

donajimena · 26/08/2017 19:13

I don't even know if its still available but I bought Batiste plumping powder for my hair. I kid you not my hair went rock solid and I couldn't get a comb through it.

Rainatnight · 26/08/2017 19:17

Brilliantly useful, thanks everyone!

Interesting to see the lack of love for co-wash etc. I've been tempted (cos of the fine hair) but now I know better.

Chocoholics what was wrong with the root spray? That's another one I've been interested in.

Knope2020 · 26/08/2017 19:19

Oh yes that root spray is dire

NomDePlumeReloaded · 26/08/2017 19:21

Co-washing works for lots of people. Sometimes you need to find your brand, sometimes it just isn't right for your hair. I get on with the Palmers Olive one but not others I've tried. I do prefer proper shampoo and conditioner, so didn't rebuy (SLS & silicone free as sensitive scalp and wavy/curly hair).

Maudlinmaud · 26/08/2017 19:22

I couldn't live without my babyliss although it does pull my hair out and I have to replace it about 3 times a year. I've cracked the secret now, use it when hair is almost dry and keep the box and receipt. They will replace it.

VanillaFrosties · 26/08/2017 19:26

Another one hating Aussie shampoo & conditioner. Phew, I thought it was just me!

Greycat11 · 26/08/2017 19:28

I don't like the root spray either. Hard to get even coverage and I didn't think it blended in subtly. Have tried a few times, don't think it's the way I was applying it.

sourpatchkid · 26/08/2017 19:28

Babyliss curl secret - I wanted it for years and I wanted to love it. But you have to have the exact amount of hair in the barrel for it to even try to curl it. Too much it won't even try, too little it will eat your hair. Just the right amount - meh, the curl lasts 5 minutes.

So so sad Sad

Knope2020 · 26/08/2017 19:28

Hate the Aussie shampoo too!

herethereandeverywhere · 26/08/2017 19:29

Aussie 3 minute miracle conditioner - the only miracle being the con that people buy it when it's so crap.

I've used Benefit They're Real for years and it really works for me.

Rainatnight · 26/08/2017 19:29

I've always imagined that if it started raining, the root stuff would just run down your face.

Big hair. Have had to cut the bastard thing out so many times and I just look like Dougal afterwards anyway.

The Pantene leave-in conditioner was utterly shite.

NARS matte foundation literally just goes on like paint and then cracks Even my 20 year old No. 17 was better.
