Shit products - don't waste your money

A couple of times recently, I've been so flabbergastingly disappointed with a product, I've wanted to tell other people, to save them from the same pain. So I thought it might be useful for us to have a thread, where we could all share this stuff.

I'll start...

Charles Worthington Everyday Gentle Weightless Conditioner, which should be renamed Useless Conditioner. I had high hopes. It promises to stop fine hair from getting bogged down with heavy conditioner. The trouble is that it also doesn't condition or do basic detangling. My DP (who has a hearing problem) could hear my hair breaking when I was brushing it after using the conditioner. That bad.

Holly really, that surprises me because I often use Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion, the soothing aloe vera one and Iove it. Just as good as any high end body lotion.

TheOtherGirl
As I said in my post it was many years ago so I am sure they changed the formulation Smile
But I never bought it again after seeing that programme.

TheOtherGirl · 04/09/2017 15:34

Right, sorry. I promise it's safe to use now.

poppym12 · 04/09/2017 18:41

Seche vite. Crap unless you want to see how many nails you can peel the polish off in one sheet.

DaisyRenton18 · 04/09/2017 20:27

Love my BBH, Gimme Brow and all things Bobbi Brown and Charlotte Tilbury! Blush

Hate:
Tigi Bedhead shampoo and conditioner (pink one). Have ranted about this before on here, but I had to resort to dry shampoo straight after my shower, which isn't really the point...

Maybelline Great Lash, I think it is - pink tube, neon green lid. Pandas after about 20 minutes. Not a patch on my CT one (sorry!), not does it compare to one I picked up in a Spanish supermarket for 1€... I never bin Beauty prodr, but this went.

Gatineau lip plumper.

Moves moisturizers and their make-up remover wipes.

Simple moisturisers.

Amie moisturisers. I'm spotting a pattern! Love Clarins and Lacura moisturisers...

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/09/2017 21:43

Actually most moisturisers are shit . Even the deep ones are not deep

I struggle to find a deep moisturiser that does the trick recently have started using the Jason natural ones

Therealslimshady1 · 04/09/2017 21:50

There is no such thing as,"deep" moisturisation. Thankfully our skins don't absorb all the lotions and potions we put on it.

If you think a cream "sinks in", what you are really experiencing is the water in the cream evaporating, and the oil/fat/silicon remaining on top of the skin(until we next wash it off and repeat the process)

Skin care is like religion. People believe all kind of random shit Grin

Fishandthechips · 04/09/2017 21:53

Soap and glory eyeliner pen, the cat eyes one (I think it's called something like that anyway). I couldn't get a straight line with that for love nor money.
Garnier olia hair dye. I had bleached white hair and was trying to go red. You would think based on the fact that I had a literal blank canvas it would be fine. Nope. Awful patchy damaged hair. Never again.
Origins checks and balances cleanser. I have pretty tough skin but this burned a massive patch of skin and left it sore and peeling for weeks.

Fintress · 04/09/2017 22:44

Aveeno, my skin feels like I've painted it with a layer of plastic glue and if I rub my legs together after applying it, it goes all bobbly.

Bio Oil, I'd be less greasy if I doused myself with chip fat.

Estee Lauder ReNutriv Ultimate, I was given this as a gift by someone whose husband worked at Estee Lauder. I ended up using it as hand cream, it did nothing for my face. I was absolutely horrified when I found out it cost over 200 quid.

123MothergotafleA · 04/09/2017 23:03

I've come to the conclusion that Every single " skin care " product I've ever used, (and I've used them all) is no better than a quick swish of a flannel and maybe a lick of E45 used sparingly maybe once a week.
Happy to say my skin is much improved for my minimalist regime.
I wish I knew this before I wasted £££££££££ on crap.

Camomila · 04/09/2017 23:07

I love the Aussie hair stuff, but I have really thick dry hair normally.

Whatever you do don't get the fake Aldi version of the Aussie shampoo, when it gets in your eyes it hurts approx 100x more than any shampoo ever has IMO!

QuimJongUn · 05/09/2017 00:35

That Aldi caviar serum broke me out terribly - my skin was worse than it has been since I was a teenager after using it for a few days. Their cheapo Soy serum, however, is the tits.

QuimJongUn · 05/09/2017 00:40

Btw W7 root cover up powder is brilliant (though I can only vouch for the brown shades) - it's only about three quid on Amazon and eBay too. The more expensive ones I've tried are shit - especially the John Frieda one, which was about £15 and the amount of product was woeful. It lasted me a fortnight, while the W7 one lasts about 3 months.

SomeOtherFuckers · 05/09/2017 01:12

Elvive royal jelly s&c = grease central.
Nivea = massive excema break out

SomeOtherFuckers · 05/09/2017 01:13

La Roche posts cleanser = white water

battenbergbutterfly · 05/09/2017 08:19

Burts Bees stuff made my skin and eyes and everything hurt so much that I was crying. I'll never touch that stuff again.

Orangeplastic · 05/09/2017 08:44

Bobby Brown Lipstick kills my lips - chapped, dried out, just nasty.
I share the hate for Touche Eclat - Donald Trump eyes, Bare Minerals foundation magnified my pores - they were HUGE! Jo Malone perfumes scent very poor longevity. Egyptian Dream - olive oil would be a better and cheaper solution.
I really hate that I've wasted so much money on pointless cosmetics and skin care - it makes me feel very foolish. I'm taking a minimalist Kondo approach - my teens suck up all this crap too - cosmetics that promise to remove black heads - what by ripping the skin off your face?? I am trying and failing to educate them on how misleading/dishonest the cosmetic industry are - most of it is snake oil, but teenagers feel very insecure about their skin.

Beadieeye · 05/09/2017 11:53

Donald trump eyes
🤣

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 05/09/2017 12:22

Lush bath bombs... they don't really do anything apart from colour the water and leave scum afterwards! They're a waste of money tbh.

JuicyCake · 06/09/2017 09:40

It's all a big con job isn't it? Used to love buying posh make-up / perfume / face cream when I was younger.
Now I like all the natural stuff from the health food shop. But I'm starting to get wise to that too... Might chuck the lot & just use coconut oil in future.
Mum just uses Elave & has a bath every day. Never wears make-up. She looks amazing, her skin is baby-soft.

hollyisalovelyname · 07/09/2017 19:52

Is Oloplex worth having done?

goingtotown · 07/09/2017 23:28

L'Oréal Age Perfect hair colour. No difference to the normal Excellence colour.
Tweezerman tweezers, no different to my Boots cheap ones.
Pantene shampoo & conditioner for dry hair it leaves my hair frizzy.
Olay Regenerist..for noticebly younger looking skin, not on me I'm afraid.I like the red pot though.
Colgate Max White same as the normal toothpaste.

BluebellGal · 07/09/2017 23:43

All Jo Malone perfumes, overpriced cheap colognes. Smell nice at first but very simple and don't last

BluebellGal · 07/09/2017 23:51

Channel nail varnishes are crap. They don't even last a day on me and I don't normally have problems with nail varnish chipping and flaking (I religiously base coat and top coat).

MountainDweller · 07/09/2017 23:58

Oh yes Battenberg, Burt's Bees body lotion gave me a stylish top to toe body rash. It took me two goes at using it to realise it was the culprit, because I could't possibly believe something 'natural' could cause such a massive reaction!

So many high end lipsticks seem to make my lips dry and sore. Wrong thread really but nyone care to recommend one that is extra creamy and moisturising? Longevity not an issue.
