Shit products - don't waste your money

A couple of times recently, I've been so flabbergastingly disappointed with a product, I've wanted to tell other people, to save them from the same pain. So I thought it might be useful for us to have a thread, where we could all share this stuff.

I'll start...

Charles Worthington Everyday Gentle Weightless Conditioner, which should be renamed Useless Conditioner. I had high hopes. It promises to stop fine hair from getting bogged down with heavy conditioner. The trouble is that it also doesn't condition or do basic detangling. My DP (who has a hearing problem) could hear my hair breaking when I was brushing it after using the conditioner. That bad.

Maybe there should be a reverse of this thread - terrible brands that have one or two products that actually work...

Clinique take the day off balm is good.
Benefit High Brow also.

Rainatnight · 26/08/2017 22:23

Oh yeah, that Bliss stuff'll cost you...

This was so heavy it was like covering my face in candle wax. Awful.

I like the shower St Tropez! I'm pregnant and my skin is v sensitive and this stuff is great as it's only on your skin for 3 minutes.

SylviaPoe · 26/08/2017 22:25

Lush.

Literally all of it.

londonista · 26/08/2017 22:25

Rain I am finding it quite cathartic.

My husband just walked in and said "oh good you're having a clear out".

Nope, I am not. I am stuck with all this expensive crap. Sigh.

SkylarFalls · 26/08/2017 22:26

Love my big hair

Aussie stuff makes my hair seem dirty and bogged down.

no 7 colour match! hadn't worn such a pale zombie-ish tone since it was "in" in the 90s!

Hulder · 26/08/2017 22:26

Had forgotten Bodyshop Rainforest. Bought both the shampoo and conditioner. I also have curly hair - bought before I knew it was a MN recommendation for curly hair.

My hair looked like straw after a week. Dry twigs of frizzy straw.

And it set my ezcema off. They may have taken the sulfates out but fuck knows what they have put in instead.

londonista · 26/08/2017 22:27

Actually in all seriousness if anyone is living near Tooting south London and would like some/all of this stuff, let me know!

beeny · 26/08/2017 22:27

Can anyone help, is that Charlotte Tilbury magic cream, MAGIC ?

Queenofthedrivensnow · 26/08/2017 22:28

I'm a they're real diehard!

But I digress. Aussie is shit but the aldi knock odd version is great.

Orangebird69 · 26/08/2017 22:29

Any mascara other than L'Oreal Double Extension tubing mascara. I've tried so many and always end up with L'Oreal again. I bloody love Batiste dry shampoo though. And their powder root touch up!

CoolCarrie · 26/08/2017 22:29

Thanks for this thread Rain!
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish was awful ended up with white heads all over my face, especially forehead, very expensive mistake
Aussie products are rubbish for my fine hair
Most BB creams far too dark for my pale skin

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 26/08/2017 22:30

The Boots curl cream, all it did was make my hair greasy.

Orangebird69 · 26/08/2017 22:32

Ghd straighteners. Absolute shite unless you have fine straight hair. In which case, why would you have them in the first place?

reallyorange · 26/08/2017 22:32

I like Benefit They're Real for the first couple of weeks, then it seems to dry up or something. Switching to Lancome for my expensive mascara...
Love Touche Eclat.

Didn't like EL Double wear, and Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish seemed to give me spots. Oil cleanser for me! (Not touching foaming ones ever again either)

NotTheQueen · 26/08/2017 22:33

Babyliss Big Hair... the only 'result' was a tired arm and tears from untangling my hair

Ordinary Foundations... thankfully cheap-ish but it was as though they had mixed powder with water badly Just gritty dirt effect

Clarins Beauty Flash... Nothing except a hole in the purse

Urban Decay Ultimate Basics Eyeshadow... utter shit. Barely any payoff, hard to blend. And the anti slick setting spray did nothing - foundation still evaporates from my nose

Almost anything from Benefit. I've tried boing, hoola, porefessional, that gal, some wind up primer (hello flawless?), high beam, benetint, posietint, sugarbomb, a Concealer palette, They're Real, and erase paste. The things that have done anything partially decent was dandelion blush powder and erase paste... after buying cheek parade and looking like I need a bath, no more benefit ever again.

londonista · 26/08/2017 22:33

I was going to cap off my confession with a pic of £88 worth of Kevin James hair products but FB won't let you upload more than 6 pics in a day.

It's the silicone free stuff, just don't feel like my hair is clean and makes my hair feel lank. I was having a moment after a good haircut and the hairdresser talked me into it, the bitch.

CoolCarrie · 26/08/2017 22:34

Clinque skin care range is all rubbish too, even the one for sensitive skin is too harsh, thank goodness I got trial sizes.

Celticlassie · 26/08/2017 22:35

Controversially, Mac, Ruby Woo. Loved the colour but it's so flaky every time I had to touch it up I had to completely take it off and start again.
Also Philip Kingsley Elasticiser did nothing at all for me.

londonista · 26/08/2017 22:35

Not Kevin James. Kevin Murphy.

Whatever.

IDismyname · 26/08/2017 22:36

That Pantene mousse conditioner. It's pants. Leaves a powdery finish to my hair.

Love the Palmers cocoa butter body stuff. Makes me smell all chocolatey!

SylviaPoe · 26/08/2017 22:37

Oliver Bonas roll on fragrance.

Smells wonderful, but only for five minutes, then nothing.

Skinfulnappies46 · 26/08/2017 22:37

I have tried to just like the Aussie range but no I hate it. Makes my hair dry and brittle.

Celticlassie · 26/08/2017 22:37

londonista, I'm with you on the silicone free shampoos. Hairdressers hate silicone. I love it.
