Shit products - don't waste your money

A couple of times recently, I've been so flabbergastingly disappointed with a product, I've wanted to tell other people, to save them from the same pain. So I thought it might be useful for us to have a thread, where we could all share this stuff.

I'll start...

Charles Worthington Everyday Gentle Weightless Conditioner, which should be renamed Useless Conditioner. I had high hopes. It promises to stop fine hair from getting bogged down with heavy conditioner. The trouble is that it also doesn't condition or do basic detangling. My DP (who has a hearing problem) could hear my hair breaking when I was brushing it after using the conditioner. That bad.

I was about to post about Chanel nail varnish as well

Fucking shit polish. Shit brush, polish goes gloopy ridiculously quickly. Even kept in the fridge and dropping in varnish thinner

Stupidly tried several different bottles over the years thinking maybe I'd had a duff one. No. They're just all shit.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 26/08/2017 20:27

Bare Minerals - made me break out in horrendous spots. As soon as I stopped using it, they went.

Aussie shampoo - far too strong, took half the skin off my scalp. Hair was lovely though!

Urglewurgle · 26/08/2017 20:27

Skinny tan, the cream. Didn't sink in or dry at all and the only colour difference I saw was a slight yellowing on my ankles and feet!

Likewise St Tropez Bronzing Mist - might as well have not bothered.

ChopinLisztFinder · 26/08/2017 20:28

Bio oil. Just sat on top of my skin and felt horrible. Turns out that the main ingredient is liquid paraffin.

I also didn't get on with Palmer's cocoa butter tummy butter. Lumpy solid shite that didn't melt and sat on top of my bump skin like cocoa butter chunky vomit.

Itsautumn · 26/08/2017 20:32

Lush ultra land- really wanted to like this but it leaves a weird residue

Co-lab- didn't work for me at all and made my hair greasy and flat

Garnier BB cream- looks crap on me and made break out in spots

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 26/08/2017 20:33

I've never met a BB cream I liked.

Chestervase1 · 26/08/2017 20:35

Babyliss curl secret and big hair done absolutely nothing to my fine hair. Just put rollers in for 30 mins though and I have lots of volume. Ditto root spray dyed my scalp as well. I can't get on with Shellac or similar lasts me about 3 days and starts lifting. Fake eyelashes look like spiders on my eyes but I do have hooded, deep set eyes. Can't wear eyeliner either.

PinglePongle · 26/08/2017 20:36

The root touch up powders are just eyeshadows re packaged

AccrualIntentions · 26/08/2017 20:41

I didn't get on with Babyliss Big Hair either, it made my hair incredibly frizzy when it normally isn't frizzy at all.

Donated it to a friend whose hair is on the coarser, frizzier side and it works brilliantly for her.

I can't stand They're Real mascara, I find it really difficult to remove and the results don't warrant that much effort. Actually most Benefit products ultimately disappoint me, I don't think I've really like one since Benetint first came out.

raspberryblush23 · 26/08/2017 20:42

Benefit They're Real doesn't work for me either but I dont think it's made for short stubby lashes like mine. I find roller girl or bad gal lash mascara much better. I do find Aussie 3 min miracle quite good though. I've yet to find a decent foundation, I find garner BB miracle perfector the only thing that makes my skin look half decent.

notangelinajolie · 26/08/2017 20:42

I don't wear makeup but Daughter decided it was about time I started. She bought me YSL Touche Éclat for Christmas. It magnifies every wrinkle and makes my skin look awful. Needless to say she had the Touche Éclat and I'm still makeup free.

Hulder · 26/08/2017 20:50

Aussie 3 minute horrible. So glad other people hated them too. I had a shampoo from them as well, that was crap.

Benefit Porefessional. Only bought it because I was really buying Gimme Brow and Erase Paste - both of which are fabulous - and I was too wet to say no to the counter lady who was upselling it. Presumably because she knew it was so shit, no-one would buy it otherwise.

It has a stupid iron shape and is supposed to be cooling - well sticking a bit of metal on your face is - and something else which it definitely is not. It is an expensive waste of money.

minniebear · 26/08/2017 20:52

Oh grief, loads (but maybe I'm just a fussy greaseball).

Bare Minerals-nose covered in moon craters

Nars Orgasm cream blush-vanished as soon as put on

John Frieda Sea Salt Spray-no "beach waves", just a massive, uncombable, pubey frizz ball

MAC BB Foundation-like the Emporors New Clothes. I slather it on and it bloody disappears, other than an unattractive tide line beneath my chin.

However I love Batiste dry shampoo and Aussie shampoo and conditioner, so I might just be weird. Also love Laura Mercier Translucent loose powder...it's like magic.

FindingNemoandDory · 26/08/2017 20:57

I don't think they sell it anymore but Benefit did a sort of foundation which came with a pad in a case like a record (iirc)

It was my first foundation so I was inexperienced - but it only came in about three colours! I assumed you could only get orange foundation :D

Also splashed out on some Paul Mitchell salon products once for my wild hair. I liked the super skinny serum which Mum had, and liked her hairspray (non aerosol). The shine spray is good but can make your hair greasy

Shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel awful though! In fact most posh salon ones do. I've tried using less product, more product all to no avail!

TheLegendOfBeans · 26/08/2017 20:59

Oh god, Bare Minerals was so so bad for me; it made me look really lifeless and it sunk into the places you really didn't want it to. And that was using a primer ffs!

Also; OPI nail polishes. Shite, chippy rubbish. Spend your money on Barry M instead.

BifsWif · 26/08/2017 21:01

Aussie hair stuff.
Double wear foundation - it was like a crap, chalky mask.
Liz Earle cleanse and polish. Not worth the price tag.

Hulder · 26/08/2017 21:01

Correction - it wasn't the Porefessional, although I did hate that and I was conned into it.

It was the Puff-Off. It has sat unused and hated in my makeup bag ever since I bought it and will probably still be there when I die. Utter rubbish.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/08/2017 21:02

I like They're Real, but not as much as I like Rollerlash. I like Porefessional too.

No 7 mascara, forget which one - horrible and clumpy and smells of fish.

The last Lancome and Urban Decay eyeliners I bought turned out to be horribly soft and needed sharpening after every wear. Disappointing, as I've liked both previously. Think I'll stick to Mac in future.

youvegottobekidding · 26/08/2017 21:04

Benefit - POREfessional, thankfully I did only get the mini sized version for just over a tenner (and I say just, the tube is tiny!) seriously though, I was hoping for great things & on me, it seems to emphasise my pores, I've even tried it under a few different foundations & always the same result! Needless to say I will not be buying the bigger tube! (Nivea so soft seems to do a much better job even though it's not a primer!)

L'Oréal elvive extraordinary oil - did absolutely nothing for my hair, except make it look like worzel gummage.

I did try EL double wear as a sample a while ago, so glad it was a sample, it made me look orange & caked horribly on my skin!

bananafish81 · 26/08/2017 21:04

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie oh I love Urban Decay precisely because they're so soft

I am beyond gutted they've discontinued their shadow liner chunky crayon eyeliners, so satisfyingly soft. Don't drag like most pencil eyeliners do

coraliss · 26/08/2017 21:07

These expensive whitening toothpastes! Iv tried them all. Non of them make any difference, regardless of price's & the claims they make! Found a holy grail teeth whitening/stain removing solution ... cheap too... Eucryl tooth powder it's £1 from B&M : )

SylviaPoe · 26/08/2017 21:07

Babyliss big hair - does nothing.
Babyliss curl secret - creates mountain of frizz.

Nothing beats heated rollers.

The Benefit mascaras work best on people who already have long, dark, full lashes and want them to be even longer, fuller and darker.

MissEliza · 26/08/2017 21:08

Definitely all whitening toothpastes BUT the Colgate Max whitening mouthwash has definitely made a difference to me.

SylviaPoe · 26/08/2017 21:09

I always put porefessional on last over primer and foundation.

whyhastherumgone · 26/08/2017 21:09

Most Benefit products apart from Rollerlash which I really like. Dandelion makes me look like a vaguely glittery corpse.

Yes yes to the root sprays - I've tried Loreal [made my roots darker and greasier? I was using the blonde!] and a couple of others and have just accepted that there is no quick fix.

Garnier Micellar water with oil - has brought me out in tiny little spots all over my chin.

Frownies - yes yes I know, what I was I thinking. Definitely not an alternative to botox [which I'm yet to have because I'm a wuss] I just looked slightly mad with massive stickers on my forehead every night.

Aussie 3 minute miracle - used to love this years ago but they changed the formula and now it's awful.
