Is getting your haircut after 30 really that ageing?

I keep reading this on here. Am currently debating cutting off my tedious bob as am so bored of it. But have also hit my late thirties and am feeling old and shit about myself already and don't want an 'ageing' haircut!

Look at lots of pictures of styles that you might like, pay the best stylist you can afford and go for it. It's only hair - it will grow back. Xx

I'm confused... I'm 32 and get my hair cut every 12 weeks. Why is that ageing?!

Depends what you get.

If it a cauliflower head perm then yes.

If it's a quirky pintrest hair cut then no.

I have a pixie cut.
I am not that fussed about age and stuff. I am what I am.
But last week I got told I could only be in my thirties at most.
I am 49.

My haircut might not be the only reason I looks so fabulous but its obviously notmaking me look like a crone Grin

I wonder if it depends on whether it suits you. As in, it would've looked crap when young and glowing anyway and being old and rough is just highlighted by it.
I'm old and rough, not everyone old is rough by the way!

It wasn't obvious to me, I've been up all night with poorly 3 and 1 year olds. Wouldn't have asked if it was obvious, would I? Sorry anyway.

Anyway OP, I think a short/pixie cut can look fab at any age if you have the features to pull it off!

I think longer hair looks ageing on me because it seems to drag my face down. I haven't had short hair since my early 20s though; optimum length to keep me looking perky Grin is between jaw and collarbone.

Have you got good bone structure OP, or are you carrying a bit of weight on your face? That makes all the difference.

Hmm my face isn't fat but I don't have cheekbones or anything. Have fairly large features. Very fine hair so it does look in better condition when shorter. I had it short many moons ago but it was a dreadful cut and I looked like my mum. I was also more overweight then. I keep thinking there must be a short hair cut out there for me somewhere...

Long hair is usually more ageing than short hair from my observation.

Also - and it makes me cringe even writing this - I want cool hair. I used to have such edge when I was younger. I've a lot of tattoos and was really into the punk/rock look. Now I just look old and bland. sob I just want to grab the bleach bottle and scissors really.

I think having darker hair can be more ageing. Perhaps you can counteract the shortness with going a bit lighter in colour?!

I'm 39 and earlier this year I had mine cut from a nondescript just-past-shoulder length to a chin length layered bob. I've had loads of compliments, including several that it's taken a good few years off me. I know it's not exactly what you're asking about but I'd intended mine to be a sort of halfway house before taking the plunge with a proper short style (though I actually like it so much I think I'll stick with this style for a good few years now). If you're current bob is longish and all one length maybe you could go for a sort of halfway compromise like I did and see if you like it?

I've had short hair most of the time since I was in my 20s.

I've had bad cuts that were extremely ageing and great cuts that look so much fresher.

I've recently had mine cut in to a shorter, choppier bob with more layers and shorter at the back. I have fine hair and it weirdly looks thicker like this. I'm not sure whether I look older but it looks more put together and generally better than it did before so I'm happy with that.

Likes currently a chin length bob which I had it cut into in the summer. I've had loads of compliments onnit as my hair was just crap and long before. I think that's what she partly putting me off as people obviously think it suits me this cut. But I just find it so dull. I also get bored of having to dry it in a certain way to make it turn under. It's very faffy.

I wish there was somewhere that could definitely tell you if you'd look grim with short hair. I've tried apps etc but they've just look weird.

Have you got a hairdresser you trust? I know mine would tell me if he thought I was going to look old/frumpy/ridiculous!

If you like the cut of your bob but not the 'boringness', could you experiment with colour?

Twolittle I was a punk so feel dreadful if I begin to slip into blahness.

I am toying with growing out the front so I can sweep it up into a quiff type arrangement to give me a bit more edge.

I like short hair because its easy to dye and any mistakes are grown out and cut off within a few weeks.

Not everyone is good at cutting short hair. Find a hairdresser who knows what they are doing. I had a job trying to get anyone to cut mine off at all. They kept saying 'are you sure, why don't I just cut it up to here?' I wanted it all off, very short.

I have never regretted it.
