Is getting your haircut after 30 really that ageing?

I keep reading this on here. Am currently debating cutting off my tedious bob as am so bored of it. But have also hit my late thirties and am feeling old and shit about myself already and don't want an 'ageing' haircut!

There are some lovely shorter haircuts- you need a good hairdresser.

Last time I went to hairdressers I wanted short hair and she persuaded me until current bob. She is good and I trust her. But equally I think she errs on the side of me looking 'pretty' for want of a better word. And my face is never going to be that regardless of the hair. I just want to make sure I'm not feeling into A mid life crisis trap and thinking short hair will make me feel more like myself. When In fact I am actaully a tired middle aged person than the person I used to be?! If that makes sense.
No money for proper colouring but am not scared of hair mistakes with colour. I'm a teacher so has to be mild to boring sadly.

See the word quiff interests me. Could I pull off one I wonder? I was debating a more short twiggy style but hmm

One of the reason I got mine cut is so I could colour it myself without worrying about ruining the condition.
I am very blond. I find short styles need a bit of oopmh to avoid looking like I have done it to get rid of nits Grin

I use Olia tints because they high lift and easy and they don't knacker my hair.

I understand what you mean about wanting to keep an edge about you.
Im 48 and still feel that way Blush.
At the moment my hair is shaved (no3) at the back and sides and longer on top. Ive do the quiff thing sometimes too.
Ive just dyed it platinum from natural silver/grey.
I probably would look "nicer" with it longer and a softer colour but it doesn't feel like me.

Yeah. I didn't want to look nice when I was twenty and I don't want to now!

I remember being told 'you could look quite pretty if you didn't do that to your hair/face/wear those clothes'

Bugger that.

😂 at the nits- I think shorter hair needs a strong colour and I relish the thought of going very blonde.
Glad it's not just me that hasn't got the 'nice' thing. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to look butch which is why I'm angsting about it. But I'd like to look, well, different I guess. And get to stop having annoying hair that flaps around too. That might suit my idea f what image I have. Once I've had a good nights sleep and get some money 😂

Only do it if you can commit to having it cut every 4 weeks. I went from bra strap length to bob to pixie and I love it but it grows out really quickly.

Good point. I'm feeling braver for tomorrow now to express what I want. So what is a pixie?! How can I end up with a cool short cut and not a parrot like spikey one or my mums (no offence mum) lopsided thing. What language do I need?!

pinterest is the work of the devil but it's brilliant for gathering up hair style pictures to take to the hairdresser

Mines a bit like these atm, but the top isnt that long yet. The bob and short hair is the same person apparently.
I cut my own, all you need is clippers and a dont care attitude 😀

I don't know if it's as easy as short hair is aging, long hair is youthful - I think it just depends on what suits you generally and also the nuance of the cut.

Michelle Williams cycles through a range of great short hairstyles that are never frumpy or butch.

That third cut is my all time favourite.

When I get mine done I always remind the stylist that I want SIXTIES NOT EIGHTIES!

I dread walking out with a 'wacky' spikey cut. I think it can look really aging on someone who could have had the first time round. But again, that is personal to me.

I took this photo in when I went for the original chop.

I really like that coco.
I have very fine hair though and have got used to giving it a quick dry in the mornings with no products.

I would have to work hard to get that much body in my hair.

There is quite a bit of grey in it but as its spiked people dont notice it so mcu

Can just do the same sort of look but tousled if you hate the spiky look

Mine is probably a mix of both so can have it 'flat' , tousled or spiked

My hair is very fine

Lovely Rufus, you really suit it.
I use a wax stick in mine, and wash it every day. I wake up looking like Jedward.

I've had mine cut into a short choppy bob with a deep side parting/side fringe. I got the chop as bleach had ruined it and I'm growing out my grey. I'm 36 but I've been told it makes me look younger. I think prob because it suits me more, I have a long face and huge forehead (but good cheek bones). Plus because it's short I have to keep it clean and make some sort of effort as I can't just tie it up like I used to.
I wanted mine in a pixie but my hairdresser was worried I'd hate it and talked me out of it.

depends on the haircut. A friend of mine went for the chop - she envisaged some trendy & edgy pixie but came out with a mumsy haircut looking like her own mum.

Ooh lots of ideas thanks. Rufus that looks fab your hair, I'm not sure I could pull that off.
Cat woman that is my fear, coming out with my mums haircut. Oh the angst I'm having over this! What a first world problem! I'm going to try and attach a bad selfie - can anyone see what might suit me?!
