Is getting your haircut after 30 really that ageing?

I keep reading this on here. Am currently debating cutting off my tedious bob as am so bored of it. But have also hit my late thirties and am feeling old and shit about myself already and don't want an 'ageing' haircut!

Some great ideas there two and coco

Some people have said i look a little like jamie lee curtis (she is much more attractive than me...i think its the narrow face and short hair that people are reminded of)

That is definitely a look i want to grow into

She looks fabulous

Jamie lee Curtis is a stunner and definitely works short hair. We went for a day out today and I was people watching. Saw Maybe 1 or 2 women with short hair. Surprised me and I wonder why

I usually get my fringe cut really short because it grows so quickly.

I liked her hair blonde too.

I think bobs are very dull and almost always ageing and unflattering.

A shorter, textured cut however, can look fabulous.

Because they know that longer hair is softer and more feminine?

Ouch cara, harsh. So no one should have short hair as it makes them look hard and masculine? Seems a sweeping statement. Most of the women I saw had their all their hair scraped right back anyway so arguably they'd look similar with short hair no?

But not all women want to look soft and feminine!

I look like a bloodhound with long hair. Still at least it's a soft and feminine bloodhound.

Anyone else find these style "rules" really weird? There are soooooo many factors to consider, how can a statement like "short/long/dark/light/whatever hair is ageing" ever be true? Also, who decides what a person is a certain age looks like? And why does my hair need to make me look soft and feminine?

Good hairdresser, good cut, style that suits your features and fits with your lifestyle and you are happy with when you look in the mirror.

This means 'because boys like long hair don't they?'

There was a ridiculous article written by a young man explaining where us short haired harridans were going wrong by cutting our crowning glory.

It was hilariously bad.

The main premise of the article was that women styled their hair, dressed, wore their make up and basically existed for the pleasure of men.

Well, I don't, never have.

I dress and cut my hair for me

It seems short hair on a woman is now a bit of a statement.
When I was at high school in the eighties it was much more evenly split, in fact I would say most of the girls in my year had hair above shoulder length. My dd (14) has one friend with short hair and she is growing it.
What has changed?

How many women have we heard say, oh I really want to cut my hair shorter but my husband/DP will go mad if I do.

It starts in childhood with all those stupid (Disney) princesses with long hair bagging their prince.

And what's wrong with teen girls in this day and age? No style or individuality. All have the same homogeneous long, straightened hair.

Hug, snap. Xmas Hmm. I was thinking of my teen years and we ranged from short, mid and long. There wasn't the availability of fast and disposable fashion though. So maybe our hair made more of a statement.

Ah, namechangeemergency, you poor deluded fool, we all want look pretty for the boys really, we just don't know our own fluffy little minds.

Thinking of my early teenage years my hair was long short and medium.....all at once, with added perms, flicks and highlights. Christ I was a mess.

I am 36 and at 32 had my shoulder length hair cut and shaved of on one side I love it and have had variations since then but always short.
I get told I dont look my age all the time I haven't got elfin features and am overweight but still rock my hair, I look at pictures of me pre short hair and look older than am now.

Short hair was very common in the 80s - think Human League singers, Princess Diana, Tracie from The Style Council, Clare Grogan. Wedges and big flicks were de rigeur Wink.

Arf at bloodhound Grin.

I still don't get it. If I have long hair I am less facially attractive than if my hair is short. Why would I do that because there's a school of thought that long hair is somehow "more feminine"? I am prettier with short hair.

Maybe thats it!
There are some people who look at a woman with short hair and are personally offended because they know they don't give a shit if that person finds them attractive or not.

(or if their son, husband, brother etc finds them attractive).

This realisation is just too much to bear Xmas Sad

It's just fashion changing. As someone else said, short hair was very popular in the 80's, so to a lot of people it will be associated with women who were young in that era - so in their 50's now.

I think that's where the ageing effect comes from.
