Lipstick challenge for January

Don't worry, its not a 'thing' - you don't have to post photos on Facebook or get sponsorship for charity. Just something I'm planning to brighten up a dull January

The idea is that you wear a different lipstick / lipgloss every day through January. I'm planning to stick all of mine in a big box and do a 'lucky dip' every morning. It will be a bit of fun (in a slightly pathetic way) and will be interesting to see which lipsticks I get excited about pulling out and which I'm maybe not that fond of anymore

Yes! This sounds great, I'm such a lipstick hoarder.

This is an excellent idea. I too am a lipstick hoarder and need to get rid of about 80% of them.

Leedy, how many do you have if you don't mind me asking? And the 80% you need to get rid of - is it because you don't like the colours /formula or have just gone off them?

II will try and remember to do this - I have about 50 lipsticks, all red. But all completely different, as I keep telling my partner...!

I thought this was going to be a 'let's challenge ourselves to wear the damn stuff' in which case I was in.

I'm trying to learn to wear red lipstick. Always wanted to. Makes other people look so grown up. Makes me look like me after eating jam....

I think I have one that I last wore on my wedding day 6 years ago! I might challenge myself to wear it every day though, it's a nice colour!

I think I have about 50, from red to purple to orange to pink to carol.....Crikey every colour except nude!!!!

I think I have about ten I think, different though, going from sparkly, to almost the exact colour of my actual lips, bright red, purple red and coral.

I'm in though. I love a bit of lippy. Distracts from my otherwise rather sickly pallor in winter

I just love lipstick, it really cheers me up. At the moment I like purples and berries. I bought a really goth Matt purple from Smashbox. It's so amazing. Not everyone's thing I know.

Can I use this as an excuse to buy more lipstick?

Now this is my kind of challenge. I love lipstick, it's my comfort treat, if I'm feeling down I buy myself a new lippy and if I'm feeling unconfident (is that a word) I put on my brightest lipstick to face the day. Got more lipsticks, lipglosses and lip stains etc than I dare to count and red is my favourite.

Viewof I'm trying to wear red lipstick too! I wear a full face of make up everyday but somehow red lipstick makes me feel self conscious. Plus it's really hard to wear 😬

Maybe the non-lipstick wearers could do a challenge to wear some every day, us lipstick hoarders could do the full challenge...?!

I actually genuinely have no idea, which is why I think I need to pare down considerably - it's not so much that I've gone off them/gone off the colours (though in some cases I almost certainly have), it's that I often can't find my favourites because I have so many. Also I am running out of space in the bathroom cabinet. Definitely more than 50 anyway.

I also have a terrible tendency to buy lipsticks that are almost exactly the same as my existing lipsticks because "ooh, it's a pretty colour and really suits me" (WELL OF COURSE IT DOES LEEDY THAT'S BECAUSE YOU PRETTY MUCH ALREADY OWN IT).

Leddy I don't mean to come over all mumsy but you shouldn't keep your make up in the bathroom as the humidity makes it go off quicker and encourages bacteria growth! I'm not trying to be all bossy, it's just a tip!

I only have three. I feel silly wearing them - can anyone give advice on lipstick wearing? I'm slightly scruffy and on mat leave at the moment, so a lipstick challenge might make me look a bit fancier!

My top tip for lipstick wearing is apply with a brush and use a matching liner all over your lips if it's a bright shade. Also the brighter the lip the less make up everywhere else. When you've applied the lipstick double check it's neat and just pop another outline of liner around the edge. Don't bother with the whole trying to make your lips bigger with liner unless your really good at make up.

Also generally the colours you are drawn to are the ones that suit you.

Wow - 50 lipsticks!

I own one lipstick which will need replacing soon. I tend to have one of every beauty product; one lipstick, one mascara, one eyeliner, one blusher, one foundation powder, one perfume. I replace them when the current item is almost finished. I do not have much disposable income to indulge - everything is spent on our dc who constantly need shoes, clothes, money for school trips and their extra curricular activities.

I struggle to prioritise my needs.

Open I've got loads because my friends and family tend to buy me them at birthdays and Christmas and if my husband gives me money instead of presents I'd rather treat myself to make up than anything else. Also a lot of my hoard is pre child when I was working full time and had little out goings. It's my main indulgence.

I'm in. I think it is a great idea. I tend to use only one or two lipsticks at a time and have loads sitting in a tin box. I only tend to open the box when one of the lipsticks is finished.
