This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

I'm so sorry, I finished the last thread. I had been reading through it and then while I was posting others did too so my message was (I think) my first and the thread's last. What poor manners - apologies!

SOTD: Shalimar Parfum Initial L’Eau. From eBay, a new 100ml bottle (2013 batch code) was only £18.

On my skin, it resembles a layer of Prada Amber over Eau d’Hadrian. Tonka keeps it thick and smooth while bergamot makes it sparkle. Right to the dry down - and with great longevity - it retains that unmistakable Guerlinade accord. Given that it’s only an EdT and was the flanker of a flanker, it’s a beauty.

Why, hello perfumistas! I kind of fell off the other thread, but I'm still fragrantly here.

SOTD is Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. No idea why - it just came to hand. Lovely and fresh citrussy tropical.

Loyly- that sounds wonderful. It's madness they discontinued it. Cointreau- I am jealous. I bet you smell amazing.

My SOTD was L'air du desert (sadly a sample, I can't afford a bottle). Yum.

I also bought the Mary Greenwell Fire after advice on a perfumistas thread. I like, but don't love it. After the initial meaty thunk of incense-y leather, it vanishes on me.

I've been wearing Chanel No 19 Poudre. It strikes me as the sort of scent a Woman Who Gets Things Done (and doesn't drop food on her clothes) might wear. So I might say that I am not so much wearing it, as aspiring to its ideals.

I've recently bought Narciso Rodriguez's Narciso Eau de Parfum. The one in the creamy square bottle.

It smells like flowers and powder, and makes me feel expensive and cosy. (Winter here!)

thecat - love the idea of aspirational scents (note mine about smelling 'expensive')

thecat - I like what you said about ideals. I remember being given Coco EdT at the age of 14 and thinking ‘this is the grown up I want to be!’ Now, it’s the comfort blanket scent I always come back to.

SOTD is Womanity. It makes my stomach flip for a moment with that filthy accord. It's an obnoxious burst of citrus - thick, sticky, fake orange squash. There’s no greenery in it on me. It turns very seaweed-y then fleshy. A screeching plasticine note kicks in before it dries down to a soft fig. It is so weird and so compelling. Somedays, inexplicably, I don’t want chypre or gourmand or whatever ...I just want weird. I can’t figure out if I like it or not and I think that’s precisely why I wear it. Womanity really keeps me on my toes.

Hello perfumistas! I have read previous threads, and am now venturing to join you. SOTD is Miller Harris Geranium Bourbon.

Loyly- Argh! It makes me retch. There are only two perfumes in the world that make me physically gag: Womanity and ELDO Secretions Magnifique. Everything else- bring it on!

MsRinky welcome - I love the sound of your perfume, delicious. Is it both bracing and a bit boozy?

I am packing, we are leaving for Italy tomorrow. My traditional picks for the beach are mini 1932 from Chanel and a mini Huile Prodigieuse. It is really warm here too, we spent the morning on the beach, so I am cooling myself with some La Pausa. If I had more space, I would also add Aqua Allegoria Figue Iris and Sacrebleu.

Hi, I have skimmed previous threads and would love to join in. I am a newbie so please go easy on me.

I'd love any suggestions for a rhubarb-based scent. I don't really know why, but I'm hankering after one. I've tried Hermes Eau de Rhubarb which I found very one-dimensional and short-lived. Heely Verveine D'Eugene I loved on first application, but again faded away to nothingness. Aedes de Venustas definitely hit the spot with a gorgeous fresh rhubarb opening and a lovely incense dry down, but yikes it's expensive. Can anyone recommend other options?

SOTD is Histories de Parfums 1826. I find it a really nicely blended scent with oriental notes and gourmand qualities too. Nice and easy to wear to the office.

ToElle I have a decant of Aedes from the lovely Gerald on Crystal Flacon. His packaging is flawless, pricing fair (and the bigger size will last for ever - I've enjoyed mine for years on-off) and to me, AdV is perhaps the best rhubarb scent out there. I sometimes use In Love Again, it could be meant to be tomato stems but it definitely also has a bracing green opening that is a bit rhubarby. And I have fresh rhubarb stalks in my fridge!

The Bourbon relates to the type of geranium, not to the booze, I've seen lots of reviews which have assumed the same thing and been disappointed not to get a whisky note! It's kind of woody and soapy at the same time, not really my usual sort of thing, but very pleasant.

ToElle - I'm also yearning for rhubarb, and keep meaning to buy a sample of that Aedes de Venustas - thanks for the link, FF.

I did have some Olfactive Studio Flashback which is also lovely and rhubarby, but I finished it. I think they still do samples on their website.

SOTD is (coincidentally, Humpty!) Mary Greenwell Fire. I keep forgetting I bought a bottle. It's a "like" not a "love", but I'm still getting whiffs of patchouli six hours in.

SOTD is Sex Goddess from 4160 Tuesdays. I came home with five little bottles of different scents after the workshop on Saturday! Thank you to whoever originally recommended a visit - it was a great experience.

I like Sex Goddess but I prefer Goddess of Love and Perfume. I've been too. Sarah has so much energy and I just wanted to move in and sleep in the studio.

I finally have samples of the Tauer Flashes from a friend. Surprisingly, I really loved Fruitchouli Flash even though I dislike fruitchoulis. It's a peachy chypre.

SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays What I Did On My Holidays. I am aspiring to decent weather.

I have a hard time typing as I've just done my nails. We are leaving for rome tomorrow and I wonder whether I will have time to visit some of my favorite perfume shops before we head for the beach.

I love the sound of Narciso!! Cosy, expensive, flowers and powder sound right up my street!!! SOTD is Cashmere Mist. I fell in love with it after smelling one of those scratchy cards you get inside magazines. That was years ago, but I have always had one of the beautiful swan-like bottles on my bedside table ever since.

Loving the sound of Loyly's Shalimar flanker, and Jardin sur le Nil is a regular for me too Cointreau. And thank you Frugal, for linking to Gerard again. I get all excited about the Hermes Rhubarb when first sprayed, but it gets dull later. Still delighted to have sweet-talked a free sample from the nice sales lady at HoF, I do hanker after the Aedes rhubarb, although the CdG one is also pleasant, but fleeting. Creed's Aqua Fiorentina may be worth trying, but is sweetened rhubarb.

SoTD was so long ago I have forgotten, and can only get a whiff of what I think was Buddhawood Box off my watchstrap.

And from this weekend, the traffic will stop moving in Cornwall as everyone arrives for their holidays. The next few weeks are going to be murder spent mostly at home.

Happy holidays to one and all; I'm not really a grouch, but it would be nice to have summer before autumn comes this year.

SoTD has been Bvlgari Eau de The Bleu, the one with lavender and oolong. It's not as fresh and zippy as The Vert, and will probably not be replaced, but nice enough for a summer cologne.
