Dry January to Decadent December: Slimming World Support Thread 2022

GettinTrimmer · 03/01/2022 09:40

All welcome Smile I joined Slimming World in November and so far lost 9.5lb, a bit of a gain over Christmas but getting there - I have around 3 stone to lose and I am looking forward to fitting into clothes not worn for a long time and have a big family wedding coming up. I would like to look like the slim, glamourous Aunt in the photos (without upstaging the bride!) Grin

Thanks @GettinTrimmer for the new thread.
I joined SW in October and have lost 13lb so far. I'm not far from my first weight target but really want at least another half stone off after that. I've more or less sts over the festive period but have form for gaining in January as I eat up the leftovers!

Has anyone found anything new in the latest SW booklets? They seem the same material in a revised format.

GettinTrimmer · 03/01/2022 10:11

I've not found anything new Wilma55 they have reformatted the material, no new rules.

Apart from a takeaway rearranged from January I don't have any social occasions/temptations coming up so hoping for half a stone loss in January, but anything in the right direction is good for me.

Hi I hope you don't mind me joining you! I started Slimming world in October and have so far lost 17.5lb hoping for 3st overall. I've had 2 weeks completely off plan over Christmas and went for my first weigh in this morning. Amazingly I've only put on 0.5lb but I'm not sure if this is my true weight as usually I go to the 7pm group but went to the 9am one this morning instead so guessing I'll probably be a bit lighter naturally first thing in the morning than in the evening. Has anyone else noticed a big weigh difference between morning and evening? I'm back on it properly from tomorrow as we're having one last day to eat all the leftovers and finish the Christmas Bailey's!! So just going to look through the latest magazine and start meal planning......

GettinTrimmer · 03/01/2022 16:41

Hi nonameslefttochoose thanks for joining us!

I notice a difference between morning and later weigh ins but even so that sounds good! I weigh in 7.30am Saturday morning.

I know what you mean about the left overs, DH and I are eating 2 Quality Street per evening (5 syns) padded out with satsumas for me so I am not tempted to have any more. Also have opened tin of Belgian biscuits, hopefully DD will snaffle them. I dropped another box of chocolate biscuits at the food bank collection.

Good luck with meal planning.

Thanks for the new thread @GettinTrimmer. It's going to take a few days for me to stop calling you Lightandairy in my head Grin Bit disappointed that you didn't call it Ethel's Slinky Slimmers. Maybe next time... Grin

Hiya @nonameslefttochoose. Well done on your loss so far. I normally do find about a 1-2lb difference between morning and evening weigh ins but I drink about a million cups of coffee a day so am usually extremely hydrated in the evening!

I started at the beginning of November and have lost 11lbs so far. My post-Christmas weigh in is tomorrow morning so we'll see what the damage is then. I hope I haven't undone too much of my hard work, but I was a total glutton over Christmas.

That's annoying about the new books Wilma. I didn't want any new changes as I feel like I know what I'm doing with the plan, but what's the point of printing all those new books just so we can have a new cover and some new pictures. It seems so wasteful and unneccesary.

I've done well since the New Year started, but ate a wodge of Christmas cake this evening to save it from the bin which was annoying. Bit cross with myself and I'll be raging if it shows up on the scales in the morning.

GettinTrimmer · 04/01/2022 08:33

Morning all, I have overdone the syns a little bit but still hoping for a loss on Saturday morning. Today is carefully planned.

I have just been taking baubles off the Christmas tree and found 7 chocolates. Gone are the days when they were eaten so quickly I'd have to buy several packs! They have gone in the bowl with the unwanted Quality Street - gradually synned (for me anyway) and diminishing....

nonameslefttochoose Oh yes, the Baileys....we have a big bottle of it, I'll have to look up how many syns for 30ml can have a little bit synned of course.

Not seen SpongeBobJudgeyPants hopefully will see you soon, also hoping the others will be be back and anybody else who wants to join us.

LittleDorrit I know what you mean about Christmas cake....good luck with weigh in today I am sure the Christmas cake would have made very little difference.

Wilma55 I have just listened to my consultant talking about the new books, she said to those who haven't gone back to group that they are free until 16th Jan, and she talked very enthusiastically about them. Some of it more user friendly like the supermarket green list but really I was happy enough with the last pack.

OH is making a variation on his speciality, lasagne. Always buys a jar of white/cheese sauce. Couldn't believe a Dolmio one was 40 syns, an Aldi 17.5 which is a big saving! I always allocate myself a third. He's doing a veggie one so apart from the big slug of olive oil and the sauce should all be free. Anyone know of any really low syn white sauces? I'm just glad to not be cooking!

Wilma55 · 04/01/2022 13:24

@GettinTrimmer how did you listen to consultant today if getting weighed tomorrow? Can you attend more than one meeting? I know with WW you could go to as many as you liked but only weigh in once a week. I agree @LittleDoritt about new books being wasteful. Bet we could sell them on ebay!

GettinTrimmer · 04/01/2022 14:46

Wilma55 my consultant does live Facebook from time to time. I weigh Saturdays.

I watched a Hairy Dieters programme earlier on, and also remembered that I have their book Smile very Slimming World friendly. Worth a watch I found it on catch up was looking for a diet programme for extra motivation.

OP posts:
Wilma55 · 04/01/2022 14:53

Yes @GettinTrimmer i've got their books too. At least no need to use leeks instead of lasagne sheets! There is also a repeat of the Tom Kerridge programme and one about quitting sugar - I started a thread about TV diet programmes.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/01/2022 15:09

Hi All

I have come across now I know what the deal is Grin. It's allright saying Ethel's Slinky Slimmers would have been a good name, you don't have to live with it being your SW groups FB name! It got old quite quickly. The 'new' book appeared on there with a video of her shaking it to camera, so it's a little bit of an anti-climax to find it's just laid out differently. I am pleased that I don't have to learn new stuff though! As I joined about September, I have only been comfortable I sort of know what I'm doing for a short time.

LittleDoritt · 04/01/2022 20:54

I've got the Hairy Dieters cookbooks on my shelf GettinTrimmer, I'll have to dust them off and see what looks nice. Let us know if you discover anything particularly gorgeous.

Weighed in at group this morning and had gained 0.5lbs. I was on holiday last week so that was my whole Christmas and New Year gain Halo I weighed at home on NYD and was 4.5lbs up so three days of being on plan slayed most of that. Feeling very chuffed and ready to have a really good week. 3.5lbs until I get my stone sticker.

On that note, I half expected our consultant to offer to give us replacement stickers with our new books. I'm a bit sad that she didn't, giant child that I am. I want the whole shiny set on my cover!

LittleDoritt · 04/01/2022 20:57

Who is next up to weigh now?

@asinglepringle, @LeftyLou @Susanna85, hope you guys come and find us!

GettinTrimmer · 04/01/2022 21:07

Me too SpongeBobJudgeyPants I've got my head round the rules. My consultant was saying the new book is a fantastic gift to us and it's absolutely fab-u-lous!

OP posts:
GettinTrimmer · 04/01/2022 21:16

Well done LittleDorrit 0.5lb - result!!

Some nice recipes in the Hairy Dieters book. I used to be a dedicated cook, but lately I like tasty recipes I can knock up quickly with a few ingredients not a long list.

OP posts:
LittleDoritt · 04/01/2022 21:35

Definitely. I'm a bit of a one-pot cook at the moment. Really can't be doing with spending hours on a meal and using every pan in the place.

LittleDoritt · 05/01/2022 12:50

Children back at school today so started the day with a 5 mile walk. Halo Bit of a shock to the system tbh after all those lazy holiday days!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 05/01/2022 15:38

Hi All. Yes, I think the New Book thing was a big Emperor's New Clothes Hyperbole! Grin

LittleDoritt · 05/01/2022 18:59

Ha, most definitely. It's so cringey what the consultants can get all faux-thrilled about. Mine was trying to flog the new Va Va Vegan book to a very lukewarm response. Did you weigh @SpongeBobJudgeyPants? How did you get on?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 05/01/2022 19:53

Tommorow is my weigh in day. Going to try a new class, if I can find it. Meant to do a reccie beforehand, but here we are, and it's weigh in time again! Actually this will be a 6 day week, as I weighed on Friday last time. I'm not expecting great things tbh. If I can't find it, I still have time to go to old boring class, as new class is on the route.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 05/01/2022 19:55

@LittleDoritt your talk of faux thrilled reminded me. I am old enough to remember Tupperware Parties. A friend sold it for a while, but got naffed
off with all the fake joy tupperware was meant to bring to your life Grin

GettinTrimmer · 05/01/2022 21:00

Hi all, yes my consultant was selling the Va Va Vegan book somebody was enthusing about onion bhajee burgers. I did buy the Fakeaways Book though.

I made a curry for dinner not from a recipe but to show Ds how to do a curry - we made a sweet potato and cashew nut one made with low fat coconut milk, used my syns so I am not having any Quality Street or left over tree chocolates while I watch You Are What You Eat!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants hope you find a new group soon. I remember Tupperware parties too.....I only went to one that was enough!

LittleDorrit impressed to hear of your walk!

LeftyLou · 05/01/2022 22:07

Thankyou for the new thread Smile I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year.

I realised that I haven't up my progress for around 3 weeks! It luckily isn't because I have fallen off the wagon.

I started SW back in mid/late November and as of this evening with weigh in have lost 1 stone 0.5 lbs. Which is am absolutely thrilled by. I also had a nsv the other day with 1 inch of my waist. I now have 12 lbs to get to overweight bmi yayh!

Starting weight 13 stone 3
Current weight 12 stone 2.5
Goal weight n/a

I am sorry you do not like your group @SpongeBobJudgeyPants. I do think it is very important to like the consultant.

@LittleDoritt how did you find your walk? Good going. I've been on the exercise bike a few times this couple of weeks and did a 5 min beginners cardio on the SW app today. Going to try keep that up.

@nonameslefttochoose that is a fantastic amount lost so far! Smile

Hope everyone has a good week.

LittleDoritt · 06/01/2022 10:38

Oh wow @LeftyLou, you are smashing it! Well done! It's funny to have the overweight category as a goal, isn't it, but I'll be over the moon when I get there. Still have about three stone to go before I hit that mark. You'll have 12lbs off in no time!
Felt a bit of hip pain after my walk but nothing a bubbly bath couldn't cure. I'd really like to start Couch 2 5k but I'm just too big at the moment. My hips and knees would be shredded. I'm thinking once I get another stone and a half off I'll try.
