All welcome Smile I joined Slimming World in November and so far lost 9.5lb, a bit of a gain over Christmas but getting there - I have around 3 stone to lose and I am looking forward to fitting into clothes not worn for a long time and have a big family wedding coming up. I would like to look like the slim, glamourous Aunt in the photos (without upstaging the bride!) Grin

Thanks @LightandAiry . I've just been looking back through the black, 'Taste the freedom with food optimising' book. I can't see a reference to 1/3 plate carbs. I'm not saying it isn't/wasn't in there. Maybe they've changed it? There was talk at my last SW class about limiting carbs to 'reasonable portions' (or similar, can't remember term used) or it will slow weight loss. I do think it's problematic the idea of eat your fill of certain carbs for a group of people (me included) who don't have a great track record of limiting carbs... I do find the happy clappy bit a bit of a pita, and I've banged on before about I think it would be better if the SW consultant weighed people, rather than untrained volunteers, however lovely. People could get their frustrations/questions out of the way then. What I think happens is that because they don't, they vent a bit in happy clappy going round the room time. Certainly in our group. I do think that Weight Watchers had this bit right. Anyway, it sounds like there are sound reasons for giving the alternatives a go. Nowt to stop you checking in with the New Thread. No witty ideas about that title at this stage. The muse is not with me! Smile

LightandAiry · 28/11/2022 17:39

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants definitely said that somewhere about third of the plate carbs, they must have changed it on these latest books. The advice from my consultant is to have all the free carbs you want, as they're allowed, unless there is diabetes in the mix. If it works it works but I think that would increase my appetite even more. I'm no expert...I may email SW for clarification.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 28/11/2022 17:47

@LightandAiry ok. TBF sometimes I zone out a bit at meetings! Grin

LightandAiry · 28/11/2022 17:59

I know I prefer it when she just does an entertaining talk!

Anyway I've just had a teensy piece of Colin the Caterpillar cake and a matchmaker. I estimate 4 syns & the mincemeat earlier on 4 syns so finishing the day on 8 syns.

LeftyLou · 28/11/2022 18:58

Well done on the 1.5 @Wilma55 how was the linedancing? That sounds good fun.

Welcome @PieonaBarm how has your week been? You dh sounds lovely. It's nice to have that support at home.

@Carpediem15 1.5 over 2 weeks is good. My consultant said last week this is when most people tell her they will see her in the New Year.

The mince meat baked oats sound great. Making them into muffins is a good idea @LightandAiry I think I'll do this for when I fancy a mince pie and want to save on syns. Although think I will have to have at least one over the festive period.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/11/2022 20:13

Well.....I rejoined a week ago and had only put on 1/2 a lb in the few weeks I had not been going to meetings. Then I lost 4lb this week. Rejoining means they aren't counting my previous loss but I am. I've lost just over a stone since joining in July.

I've got 3 weeks until I'm going away with work and I want to be below 13st by then - I've not seen 12 stone anything on the scales since...... before developing TN and being put on gabapentin which is notorious for weight gain. At least 7 years.

Wilma55 · 29/11/2022 08:21

@LightandAiry I hope you will stay on here even if you stop sw.

I see ww (now weightwatchers again!) has a new plan, really the old green plan I think, but they have a diabetic option on the app. I agree that their meetings are preferable.

The linedancing was fun @LeftyLou but we took our own nibbles, so pringles etc and I did have a few.

Forecast is for some really cold weather so soups every day for lunch. Made my own yesterday which was vastly superior to recent offerings from the sw soup book!

Must look up the mincemeat oats recipes! What are the syns per tsp/tbs for mincemeat I wonder.....

LightandAiry · 29/11/2022 09:18

@Wilma55 I looked up syns for mincemeat - 0.5 syns per level teaspoon.

I am making some in muffin form for breakfast at work tomorrow - loooong Wednesday when I am prone to going off the boil.

I like the idea of Weight Watcher's more points for exercise.

@DrMadelineMaxwell I am the same with wanting to break the stone bracket below, few steps forward few steps back. Will be a great feeling when it happens.

@LeftyLou I am the same with mince pies....love them! The mincemeat baked oats are quite a find.

I have made a massive batch of soup, will keep me going all week. No bread with it though, HEX B is for baked oats again. Has anybody else got Christmas 🌲 events to cause a distraction?

Nothing big for me apart from a couple of boozy evenings out, endless grub at work, family visits. If I can focus best I can there won't be too much damage....!

Anybody watching the football tonight? I am not a football fan but will watch this one. DH will be snaffling his massive bar of Dairy Milk I got him for his Birthday. Luckily my focus is back so I'll be content with a cuppa!

Carpediem15 · 29/11/2022 11:21

This is the mincemeat baked oats recipe.
www.slimmingeats.com/blog/mince-pie-baked-oats
I divide the mix between 3 large silicone bun cases then put them in the Airfryer for about 13 mins.
Also make them with frozen blueberries, just put 4 on top and they sink or finely chop an apple up in the mix and add some christmas type spices. Also make them with flavoured Muller instead of plain yogurt.

Wilma55 · 29/11/2022 14:46

Thanks for the link @Carpediem15 I wonder if they would work in the microwave? I do this one in mug in microwave, was thinking sub the honey/syrup/marmalade with mincemeat
35g oats, 1/2 tsp vanilla essence (or orange essence), 1 sweetener (or 2 tsp sweetener), 3 to 4 tbs of milk or 2tbs yog, 1 egg.
Put marmalade (mincemeat?) In mug, mix all other ingredients, add to mug. Microwave 1 minute.

Very easy and quick.

Dahliasrule · 29/11/2022 20:03

Went to WI with fear and trepidation this evening as I have been cheating. Can hardly believe 2lbs off! Down to a new stone category too.

To celebrate I am going to have a Kit Kat finger. Yes, a whole finger! Go girl!

LeftyLou · 29/11/2022 21:41

Thankyou for the link @Carpediem15 😊

That's fantastic @Dahliasrule 😀 well done!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/12/2022 20:43

Hi all. Hope everyone is ok. I had a SW holiday last week, as away with DH. V difficult to follow SW as away out in the sticks. Also got a bad cold so not really feeling it. Went to WI this morning to find I have STS so that's a result in my book.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/12/2022 21:31

Full of cold last week and sore throat = bad asthma this week. Off work Mon as couldn't breathe, thought I was getting better but no and lots of inhalers not helping.
So I've bounced back and forward to the doctors today. First - given steroids and told take them and come back by 4 if they haven't helped. Then back to be given anti biotics. Warned to go straight to A&E if I get worse.

So due to feeling crap I've not eaten loads, but what I have eaten hasn't been amazingly on plan. I don't WI til Sat now but this morning I was another lb down so far this week and fingers crossed I haven't spoiled it as I'm v close to getting below 13 st and I've not seen 12 on the scales for YEARs (and years).

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/12/2022 21:33

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants I'd def accept a STS under those circumstances.

@Dahliasrule Fab result! I'd find it hard not to cheat the following week if I lost 2lb cheating. You must have eaten well around the cheating you did.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 02/12/2022 10:08

@DrMadelineMaxwell sounds like you are doing great, hope you start to feel better soon. It's fabulous when you see a number on the scales you haven't seen for years! How is @LightandAiry Xmas Smile?

Dahliasrule · 02/12/2022 16:50

Hope you are feeling better, DrMadelineMaxwell , and that you get to the new stone level on weigh-in.
LightandAiry, I know carbs are bad for diabetics and I had a shock when I bought the book ‘Carbs and Cals*. I do love my pasta and rice. I am pre-diabetic too, hence the referral to SW. However, I have been pre-diabetic before and everything sorted itself out after I lost 3 stones on SW. ( Back to square one now with it all back and the same diagnosis).
Good luck to all those weighing in tomorrow.

LightandAiry · 03/12/2022 08:34

@Dahliasrule great on your 2lb loss. Ah, yes so weight loss, however it's done will reverse this pre-diabetes. I am looking into sugar free snacks between meals: gherkins, boiled eggs, etc. At this time of year those mince pie oats will be good. My late Dad had type 2 Diabetes, we lost him in July 2021. He would have been much more comfortable without it...

@DrMadelineMaxwell you and me both close to the level below. I hope to be reporting next week is the week! Hope you are feeling better.

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants Spongey your week away sounds good, cosy in the sticks. Hope you are feeling better too. A sts is a great result.

Anyway.....as for me.....I am delighted to say I lost 3lb!! That is the 1lb last week and 2,lb week before off. I did a Health Check yesterday and found out my blood pressure is high so I will have to behave myself and not get so stressed out....

My lovely neighbours are coming in for a drink this evening. I am on a roll and will put Clementines and cucumber sticks/cherry tomatoes out for snacks. I can't forego the mulled wine though....love it. With a mini mince pie! 🍷

Hope you are all doing OK. Any ideas for new thread title?

Dahliasrule · 03/12/2022 09:25

Well done, LightandAiry, on your 3lbs. Do you take any medication for your BP? Yes, try to be relaxed about things. Enjoy your drinks this evening, sounds like sounds like you have a plan.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/12/2022 17:53

One major incentive to lose weight (and the reason I went for the NHS self referral to start with) is that I was, in covid, getting right hand side under-rib pain. Sometimes naggy. Sometimes really sharp and painful if I bent over, like I was trapping something under my rib.

After an age, they sent me for a scan. And I had a phone message from my gp telling me I had an enlarged liver that wasn't a huge concern but should be addressed by me losing weight. Not in a quick way, but just by eating more healthily and slowly and surely losing weight (poss a warning not to lose it in a quick way that can then irritate the gall bladder and cause it's own problems,)

Then sitting listening to my nail lady tell me she'd been the same weight as me (and a bit more) when she joined SW and she'd lost 3 and a half stone, was the incentive to seek out the referral to at least try it for free.

Well I don't get liver pain any more.

I do get massive indigestion still if I eat late at night, but I put that down to age and it just means I have to stop eating at a certain point, whether I'm hungry or not - which does help me curb the evening snacking. We are away with work for a weekend soon and we will eat late in the evening (by my standards) and last time it meant a horrible night's sleep so I'm going in with a plan of having a starter instead of a big main, or aiming not to stuff myself. Easier said than done when food is delicious!

Carpediem15 · 03/12/2022 21:40

I am not MN savvy but - well done Light and Airy on your great loss and also to everyone else whether a small loss - stayed the same - or had a little gain.
I lost 1lb and very happy with that.
I put a pack of Skinny Bars in the raffle (the sticky toffee ones) and was on the way to the toilet when they drew it and someone asked why anyone would put them in the raffle - I shouted back - they make me fart so you can have them - and continued on. When I came back I had to explain to a quiet room that I have Chrones disease and have watch what additions are in food - this is the only one I have had that makes me fart and gives me stomach pains like this one does. Anyway the lady who won is going to report back.😀

Wilma55 · 04/12/2022 11:58

Well done @LightandAiry and good to plan ahead@DrMadelineMaxwell .

Ha ha @Carpediem15 ! Do you usually take raffle prizes at your group? We have been asked to wrap a raffle prize of about £2 for "party week" and also something for tasting. Normally the consultant does the raffle prize, this week it was pickled onions, pickled cabbage and cornichons (?).

For one minute I thought I might get sow as I lost another 1.5 but right at the end someone got a large loss and beat me 😔.

I've found no snacking has been the way to lose, jut 3 meals a day and a glass of wine on Saturday night (2 actually last night)

Carpediem15 · 04/12/2022 15:15

We take something every week and put it in a basket - might be getting it mixed up with S ot Week basket. I am usually getting ready to catch the bus when they do those things so don't notice so much.
Well done on the 1.5 loss - good going.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/12/2022 18:40

Well done all

I've lost my mojo

Life has been hard and cba at the moment

I may just stop and start again in new year

Wilma55 · 04/12/2022 18:45
