All welcome Smile I joined Slimming World in November and so far lost 9.5lb, a bit of a gain over Christmas but getting there - I have around 3 stone to lose and I am looking forward to fitting into clothes not worn for a long time and have a big family wedding coming up. I would like to look like the slim, glamourous Aunt in the photos (without upstaging the bride!) Grin

Worst temptation this time of year - copious amount of crisps, nuts & mince pies washed down with Rosé wine! I didn't pass the willpower test last night and I have been feeling groggy - the wine didn't agree with me!
-@Blondeshavemorefun I 100% get it especially when life is hard it feels impossible to focus, hang on in there we'll do this together. I like the pic @Wilma55
Well dne on your 1.5 loss. Yes a stone could easily go on in December.
@Dahliasrule not on any meds at all, I'm at the stage of trying to sort health out naturally but wouldn't rule out meds. @DrMadelineMaxwell good to hear the weight loss has helped with the discomfort. I find eating a sizeable dinner early helps - otherwise I am very hungry waiting for dinner and snack. @Carpediem15 well done on that 1lb.....shame about the Skinny bars but that's a good win for sow!!

Dahliasrule · 07/12/2022 15:13

Well done, Wilma55 and Carpediem15, on your losses.
I know it can be hard to keep your motivation when life is hard, Blondeshavemorefun. Try to focus on the small wins and let the rest go.
I didn’t get to WI yesterday as I had a migraine . After a few months without them, they seem to be coming a bit more frequently, I am post menopause (giving away my age) but these recent migraines remind me of when I was younger and would get a migraine every fourth Tuesday.

Wilma55 · 10/12/2022 15:03

WI this morning and it was a sts, so not back into the non paying zone! Still I had had a good night out and a few too many drinks so could have been worse, if and tiramisu on Wednesday!

Would like to lose next week then I can go on holiday without needing any holiday weeks (I think?)

How's everyone else getting on? It's very quiet on here, hope all OK.

Carpediem15 · 10/12/2022 20:57

Half a pound off this morning, still have 5lbs to go to target and 5 weeks left so can't see that happening when it includes Christmas and we are going away for 5 days. 😃

LightandAiry · 11/12/2022 06:48

Morning, I weighed in yesterday; night before I'd had alcohol, but avoided the nibbles - gain of 2lb. I was gutted but I think it was probably water retention as I've had a not perfect, but not too bad week.

Advice from group re week of meal out etc was to have speed free when possible but enjoy meal out etc.

How is everyone doing?

Well done on your sts @Wilma55 no mean feat

@Carpediem15 0.5lb going in the right direction, I think that's a result this time of year.

doyouwanticewiththat · 13/12/2022 22:29

Hello all, please can I join ? I have reached target in the past but menopause and bad habits have caught up with me and I need to lose a stone to get back to my target . My cholesterol has got a bit high so want to lose weight to help it come down , but am concerned I'm going to be eating too much cheese for the healthy extra , though know I can have low fat cheese...wondering if anyone else in same position with high cholesterol and what you do, thanks .

Wilma55 · 14/12/2022 07:53

Hi and welcome @doyouwanticewiththat I have high cholesterol 6.4 I think. I normally use 1 hea on milk or yogurt. Rarely have cheese except in cooking. I used to have babybel light for snacking but have cut them out. As I understand it you don't have to use both hea so I don't unless having lasagne for example.

doyouwanticewiththat · 14/12/2022 09:24

Thanks @Wilma55 what yogurt as HxA do you use ? Does it have to have a high calcium contain ? Obviously could have extra milk , but might get a bit boring ..love cheese though ..

Wilma55 · 14/12/2022 16:10

@doyouwanticewiththat do you know what, I've mixed up free food with hea! I can't actually find any yogurts that are a hea. Oops.
I drink a lot of tea so even if I don't have cereal I probably use a hea in tea.
Sorry for the duff info!

PieonaBarm · 14/12/2022 17:02

So I'm sat in class now having rejoined this evening. I think I'm mad but I want to control the inevitable Christmas gain!

doyouwanticewiththat · 14/12/2022 23:33

@Wilma55 no worries ! I'll just miss out the cheese most days , and have now and again .

Dahliasrule · 15/12/2022 10:26

PieonaBarm, I think it is quite sensible actually starting now. You will be a bit more careful and will control the damage.
WI this week was a surprise. 1lb off. It was a surprise because we had an early Christmas meal with my eldest student granddaughter who is returning home to DS’s family in Spain for Christmas. Wine and sticky toffee pudding was had, plus more leftover sticky toffee pudding the next day. I shall try to be watch things this week because I always think it takes a week for the deeds to catch up!
Have now lost 10lbs and am beginning to feel so much better for it.

Wilma55 · 15/12/2022 13:25

@PieonaBarm I agree with @Dahliasrule that it's best not to wait till the new year, you can do an awful lot of damage in the run up to and over Christmas. Having said that I find it's using up the left overs in Jan/Feb that ruins my weight loss. We are away for the whole period so won't have any leftovers, fingers 🤞.

PieonaBarm · 15/12/2022 18:03

Hi @Dahliasrule and @Wilma55 that was why I did it. I'm already at the upper upper end of what I'm uncomfortable with and I just knew if I didn't it would be a complete free for all and an absolute disaster by Jan 4th. At least this way I'll have probably 6/7 days on plan this week and 4/7 Christmas week whereas before I would have just thought f-it and been another half stone up!

Wilma55 · 17/12/2022 11:14

Well done @Dahliasrule on your pound off. I went to WI this morning and managed to get in my target zone so don't need to book holidays for while I'm away. Feeling rough with this awful cold that's going about so didn't stay for the "party". There were only about 8 people there and that included the social team.

What are peoples plans over Christmas period? Are you going to have the big day off? Theoretically I should be ok as am on a cruise so can pick and choose what I have. I think they have a lighter choice meal. However after a couple of days I expect I will be skipping the salad and piling on the butter.

We are out for drinks at friends tonight and at a Christmas lunch tomorrow so will try visualising saying no thank you im full, ha ha.

Dahliasrule · 17/12/2022 17:13

Well done for getting into target, @Wilma55 . A cruise sounds lovely though there will be plenty of temptation. May I be nosey and ask where you are going?
I think I am already in festive mode. It is hard at this time of year.

LeftyLou · 19/12/2022 11:23

I have had a few quite big gains recently. Last week was 5.5 I have never had one as big as that. So I am trying to pull it back a little bit. I am going to full on enjoy Christmas day though and a few other days around the festive season.

It is our Xmas party this wednesday so I am going to have to think of something to take. I might just make it easy for myself and get some mini meringues and a punnet of strawberries.

How is everyone doing? I have found a YouTube channel called Grow with Jo. She does workouts but they are fun today been trying them whilst I feel the weather is too awful for walking in (at least that's my excuse)

LeftyLou · 19/12/2022 11:24
  • to do!
Carpediem15 · 19/12/2022 11:33

I was 1 lb up this Saturday - ate my own weight in cheese cake and christmas cake this week along with the wine (thank goodness there is only 1 christmas party) SW meeting was taster but everyone brought things like chocolate logs - mince pies - sweet things etc. I did take some sweet potato hummus and veg sticks but ate the other stuff too. 😃
Going away for Christmas on Thursday so going to have to reign it in a bit or it will be a big gain by next WI.
Merry Christmas to everyone.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 19/12/2022 14:45

Hi All. As my SW consultant says, "On plan, when you can" which sounds reasonable for this time of year Xmas Grin

Wilma55 · 19/12/2022 14:48

@Dahliasrule we are going to the Canaries and have new year in Madeira which is renowned for its fireworks.

I didn't stay to our taster session as I was feeling 💩 but was going to take sausage and cucumber christmas 🎄 which I found on the app under features. I couldn't find any low syn sausages in sainsburys either.

Dahliasrule · 19/12/2022 14:56

@Wilma55, that sounds lovely especially the fireworks.
Happy Christmas everyone, and enjoy..in moderation!

LightandAiry · 19/12/2022 15:06

Hi everyone, I didn't weigh in this week as we were supposed to be going away, but weekend away was cancelled. DD has a nasty sore throat and is feeling poorly - I was concerned it's this Strep thing but she is 17 and has a more adult immune system; also DS ended up in A & E with a suspected collapsed lung - but he is fine, pains in chest have stopped and DD seems to have her attitude back so she is feeling a bit better. I hope everyone is keeping well.

I have more or less stopped doing Slimming World and follow advice from an NHS nutritionist on an app. Sort of similar to SW but restrict carbs to 1/4 of the plate, but having said that the SW mincemeat baked oats are fab.

@Carpediem15 enjoy Christmas away. I love cheesecake; I would say 1lb gain is not bad.

@LeftyLou you and me both I will enjoy Christmas day too. I'll be making a tiramisu.

@Wilma55 if nobody is poorly we are going away Boxing Day and following day so it will be difficult when gorgeous food is around. Enjoy your cruise.

@doyouwanticewiththat welcome. I'm another one with high(ish) cholesterol but I think it's just the way I am. It was the same when I was a stone and a half heavier.

@PieonaBarm I think you're sensible to start now. I started last November and glad I got it in before Christmas.

Any witty and imaginative ideas for a new thread title anyone?

PieonaBarm · 19/12/2022 17:41

@LightandAiry ah thankyou. I had a cheeky weigh in this morning and was half a pound down and still two days to weigh in. Been for lunch with my BFF who I've not seen since October today and had a toastie but it's fine, I didn't have chips or crisps with it like I normally would. I'd take a gain tbh because I know it won't be as bad as if I hadn't joined.

@LeftyLou I put 10lb on after two weeks all inclusive in October. In my defence I do have kidney issues (thanks Covid!) so I think some of it was likely water but I reckon at least 8lb was pure lard 😂
