GettinTrimmer · 03/01/2022 09:40

All welcome Smile I joined Slimming World in November and so far lost 9.5lb, a bit of a gain over Christmas but getting there - I have around 3 stone to lose and I am looking forward to fitting into clothes not worn for a long time and have a big family wedding coming up. I would like to look like the slim, glamourous Aunt in the photos (without upstaging the bride!) Grin

Hi everyone, please can i join your group?
I joined SW last night and was horrified to find out im 14st 8lbs! So im aiming to lose 3.5 st which feels like a bit of a mountain right now.
Im a big 'picker' as I work from home and the fridge is close (hence my weight gain). Can anyone recommend picky stuff to try and satisfy me? I know part of it is boredom so that's psychological, but if anyone has any recommendations, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks :)

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/01/2022 11:38

Hi All. Have jumped ship and gone to another group. Nearer, the leader has a bit more oomph, and most importantly, the FB page doesn't have a stupid name! It's actually Slimming World, Royston Vasey (but insert place of choice! ) This seems far more sensible! I've also lost a pound! Dunno how, but has inspired me to get back on the plan properly, and actually write stuff down.

Welcome @Yorkshireteaalwayswins

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/01/2022 11:43

@LeftyLou and @GettinTrimmer the new leader seems much better, so all good. I didn't really want to jump ship, and also had the benefit of the 12 free weeks, so didn't want it to seem like when I had to pay I went somewhere else, the last session of Pay & Piffle off, which wasn't advertised as that, was the final straw!

We've 'done' the new books this morning. As has been said upthread, just a different layout really. I think it probably is slightly better laid out, but not perfect for me. Give me a couple of days and I'll have my trusty sticky note arrows to make it easier for me to use! :)

LeftyLou · 06/01/2022 13:13

Warm welcome @Yorkshireteaalwayswins great name by the way Smile

Some ideas
Fruit kebabs
Pickled onions with cheese and turkey slices
Vegetable crudités with choice of dip. Can find some nice ones on the slimming world app
My mind seems to have gone blank at the moment.

Thankyou @LittleDoritt Smile I am surprised i did lose this week actually as I wasn't on it 100% and felt quite stressed but I am taking it and running. Like SpongeBobJudgeyPants says it has also given me motivation to be as on plan as I can this week and aiming for a big loss!

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants why did you have to pay and leave? I am not sure the consultant quite knows how her job works if she is refusing her members IMAGE therapy which is supposedly one of the important factors of the plan.
Great news on the 1lbs!

I am planning on making slimming world shepherds pie which uses half potatoes and half parsnips. I am also using turkey mince as that was the only mince available less than 5%.

Yorkshireteaalwayswins · 06/01/2022 13:23

Thanks @LeftyLou I'll give those a try. I only joined last night so definitely need to do a shop for all the useful bits and pieces! I luckily had some FF greek yoghurt and blueberries in for my breakfast but definitely need to find some main foods to fill me up.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/01/2022 14:11

@LeftyLou I think there were a few meetings mentioned upthread that were pay and go, but people were aware of that before they decided to go. Ethel @SexySlinkySlimmers didn't make us aware.

positivevibesonly22 · 06/01/2022 14:16

Hi, I haven't been SW for years and always stay the same weight but need to loose a few stone. I'm tall so get away with it a lot but have been moaning and shying away from certain things for years as I hate the way I look. I'm going to join my local SW group on Tuesday and do the twelve week countdown and then go from there as I'm ok on my own really. A twelve week kickstart with fresh ideas will be good though and I've also been going to my local gym which I haven't done since BC, so 16 years, but I LOVE it when I get into it. Will be nice to see any ideas here and give support. Thanks 😊

Wilma55 · 06/01/2022 15:29

Hi @Yorkshireteaalwayswins and @positivevibesonly22 and welcome. Some snack ideas
Grapes
Babybel light
Celery with light cheese triangles
I find it handy to have frozen berries which can be added to yogurt for breakfast or dessert

LeftyLou · 06/01/2022 16:00

Welcome @positivevibesonly22 Smile

Frozen berries is a great idea. Frozen grapes are nice too. For a synned snack I find metcalf's salt and sweet popcorn is good 3 syns for a 14g bag.

LittleDoritt · 06/01/2022 20:53

Welcome Yorkshire! I'm a big picker too and I honestly find that if I can break that habit for a few days life is so much easier going forwards. It's so much better for me mentally to eat three meals a day, because if I give myself license to pick then I can eat all day long. I need to follow my own advice this week as I'm eating everything in sight right now.

Glad you have got yourself a saner consultant Sponge.

Hello Positivevibes. I hope you get a good group on Tues. Your plan sounds like a good one. I did a 12 week countdown hoping to get rid of a stone by the end of it but Christmas has stalled progress somewhat. Unlike you I'm not tall at all - I'm an unforgiving 5ft 1 and resemble a beach ball Grin

LittleDoritt · 06/01/2022 20:53

Forgot to say well done on your pound Sponge! That's a definite win in New Year's week.

GettinTrimmer · 06/01/2022 20:56

I've just been for a swift walk in the drizzle, nice and refreshing after being at work all day sitting down. I've heard sitting down all day is the new smoking!

Welcome Yorkshireteaalwayswins I was the same weight as you when I started SW and want to lose around the same amount of weight. If you are hungry between meals a boiled egg and tomato Is a good snack.

Positivevibesonly22 I bought a 12 week countdown it takes me until early March at the moment. I am hoping for around a 20lb weight loss by then.

LeftyLou just looked at your snack recommendations. Have you made any of the SW dips?

GettinTrimmer · 06/01/2022 21:02

LittleDorrit one thing about my consultant's Facebook page is that she posts her meals - she doesn't eat between meals and her dinners are massive but all on plan. I would be stuffed!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants that's good the group is better. I've had consultants who are uninspiring. Well done on your 1lb, I'll be happy if that's me on Saturday.

OP posts:
Yorkshireteaalwayswins · 07/01/2022 08:45

Thanks @LittleDorrit I managed to get through yesterday with no picking so I'm pleased about that. I even went to the Harry Potter Forbidden Forest event at Delamere Forest and managed to resist the doughnut stalls! I did have to walk away though Grin. I'm glad to hear it gets easier.
Thanks @GettinTrimmer I'm now off to boil some eggs. Ill keep a few in the fridge for when I'm feeling I need something.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 07/01/2022 18:47

@LittleDoritt and @GettinTrimmer. Our Leader used to be area manager, and has done it for about 20yrs. I do feel a bit safer/saner there! Also, the church hall is much smaller so not as cold, which just feels better! Particularly as I take layers off for weighing in. One of the members at the other group apparently used to strip off to her bra and pants. The male member didn't put her off, nor the fact that it's brass monkeys in that hall! :)

GettinTrimmer · 07/01/2022 20:58

Weigh in for me 7.30am tomorrow. I've overdone the syns this week so I don't think the Christmas lbs will be gone, but hoping for 1lb.

Yorkshireteaalwayswins A boiled egg should hit the spot. I did a bit of picking today and should take my own advice.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants that's good you're more comfortable in new group. When I weigh in at home its first thing in underwear; certainly would be a more authentic reading in group (perish the thought!).

OP posts:
LittleDoritt · 07/01/2022 22:06

Sponge, that's hilarious! No bra and knickers at our group, but our consultant has asked us all to weigh in wearing our shoes. Apparently that's how they did it between lockdowns and she wants to keep the rule to save time and faffage. My group is mostly old ladies who are all totally outraged by it and they all bring their slippers to change in to for the scales. Loads of 70+ ladies in their pink fluffy slippers always brightens up my Tuesday morning!

I tried to follow my own advice to Yorkshire today and had no snacks at all, but bigger meals. Yesterday was a bit snack-tastic and I didn't even feel satisfied. Today was better. Now I just need to keep on doing that forever for a while. Weetabix and fruit, two bowls of homemade syn free lentil and veg soup and then a potato/carrot/egg/bacon concoction for dinner. Five syns on sugar in my tea and on my weetabix.

LittleDoritt · 07/01/2022 22:08

Well done for yesterday Yorkshire. Resisting doughnuts takes serious strength! Was the Forbidden Forest good? I love Harry Potter.

Good luck for the morning GettinTrimmer. Hope the scales are kind.

GettinTrimmer · 08/01/2022 09:28

Back from group, and I have done Davina Fit in 15. Really pleased; I've not tackled Davina for a while due to bad knee, but I am convinced the weight I have lost resulted in less pressure on it, and I have just been star jumping and squatting with no discomfort Smile I've been able to do this DVD because I have been walking for a while - I'd say the best exercise we can do it really increases fitness when done at a quicker pace to my normal plodding.

I have lost 2.5lb this week, which is all the Christmas weight!! 2lb to go for my 1 stone award.

LittleDorrit no shoes? With my clodhopper walking boots that would make a difference, and there would be muddy scales (I do wipe first, but some specs of mud would come off!) I would be changing into slippers as well!

OP posts:
Yorkshireteaalwayswins · 08/01/2022 10:25

@LittleDoritt yes the Forbidden Forest was great, really magical. Glad it wasn’t raining though because it was seriously muddy underfoot. I recommend it if you’re based in the north west.
Well done @GettinTrimmer that first milestone always feels so good. I want to get back into walking but the weather is turning me into a big wimp at the moment. Hopefully I can force myself out this week.
I’m doing overtime in work today so I’m away from the fridge (yay, no picking opportunities) but also away from the oven so I’ve had Greek yoghurt with blueberries and raspberries and a boiled egg. I’ve also got some grapes and carrot sticks if I need them.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 08/01/2022 14:19

@GettinTrimmer well done! Bet you are really chuffed. @LittleDoritt our groups vary. Friends group can weigh in socks, so I have been doing that at new group, and not been called on it. Although I didn't notice the pink slippers, some people were weighing in flip flops (which I used to) It's just so cold for flip flops and bare feet? Either that or wear them between your socks geisha style! I did some picking yesterday, but have pointed it, and will try to stay the lower end of my points the rest of the week. Meant to be going to see DSIS soon in the Isle of Man, but they are currently awaiting a covid test,so that may be off. @Yorkshireteaalwayswins I know boiled eggs are a good stand by thing, but I don't luff them Grin

ListenLinda · 09/01/2022 21:30

Hi all, can I plonk in and mark a place? i’m rejoining this week and looking forward to getting started, hoping you lovely lot will keep me company along the way!
I hear there are some new books out, has anything drastically changed?

LeftyLou · 09/01/2022 21:55

Hi @ListenLinda Smile welcome.

@GettinTrimmer thats fantastic on your weight loss this week Smile I have actually only tried 1 dip I found. A caramelised onion and herb dip.

Has anyone ever noticed quite a big weight fluctuation through the middle of the week only to have a small gain or even a loss? Something confused me today. I got on the scales just to check as had a very high salty high carb diet this weekend and my weight was up by 8 lbs I then got off and back on literally a second later and the weight was down by 5lbs. Really going to have to have a few low syn days to try and bring it back. My motivation was so high but my weekends are going back to how the were prior and need to stop!

GettinTrimmer · 10/01/2022 13:07

Welcome ListenLinda thanks for joining us. The new books are revamped and condensed.

LeftyLou Thanks I am hoping for 2lb this week to make my stone award Smile I only weigh in at group once per week especially as it's first thing in the morning.

It's 5.5 syns for 35mil of Bailey's and 1 syn For a Matchmaker (still on Christmas left overs more chocolate appearing from dd's bedroom!). I am pleased I rejoined Slimming World as this time last year I wouldn't have been so controlled!

How are you all doing?

OP posts:
ListenLinda · 11/01/2022 08:37

Looking forward to Thursday, when I rejoin. Me and Dsis are going together, going to dig my old recipe books out later and get reacquainted!

Hope everyone is doing okay.
